Charlie Byrd is just more another guy without enough sense, skill and knowledge to play brazilian songs as they are. He thinks that himself has freedom for play songs in his own way.
I had the honor of seeing this great master, Charlie Byrd, in Santa Barbara, CA in the late 1980's. He was absolutely awesome! He was the real deal! He left a marvelous legacy for those of us who aspire to the guitar.
Wanna' bet this won't be here in 3 months thanks to copyright restrictions? Charlie was the most lyrical, melodic, technically proficient improvisationalist of his day and thank god his recordings will live forever!

hollywoodfats,Have you listened to Luiz Bonfa and Baden Powell? These are the Brazilians who did this stuff before Byrd.I'm sorry, but by Brazilian standards he is a pretty wimpy player who never got a good sound.Dan
Thanks for sharing your Charlie Byrd video, if you have any more please post. Charlie did so much for jazz and Bossa and is often overshadowed by others. peace
Anyone know what type of guitar Charlie is using?

Gosh imagine that. Good thing Tom Jobim felt the same way or we'd only have Samba and not Bossa Nova.
What a dipshit comment.

Yes- I listened to Baden Powell. What's the point? He's good too. But this is all subjective. I very much prefer Charlie Byrd's sound.
