  • absolutely brilliant! well done! :o)

  • omg that was wicked .

what a great outdoor set you have .

i had a train set as a kid back in the 80's up in the loft but i did not do much to it .

it was just the track layed out in twists and turns and had a few points but i did not build scenery .

don't know why i did not cause it was a big layout and i could have made a nice model if i wanted to .

anyway , thumbs up to yours mate .

do you have 125's on it ?

  • great outdoor adventure you have, where abouts are you??

  • Just so cool. Beats 4 coaches going round and round a loft

  • @thompo999 It did.... unfortunately it's now been completely dismantled to be replaced by a new garden layout at our new home. Watch this space.....

  • Great video, you have been busy, layout looks fabulous and so different and the black five with those crimson and carmine coaches look just right. After seeing your the loco pulling eight coaches quite happily I must have another go at flattening my gradients to get longer trains without a banking engine, look forward to more videos cheers phil

  • @gearbox428 Phil, I had to add additional weight to the Black 5 in order to get it pulling anything more than 6 coaches. For want of something more suitable I simply inserted 7 x 5p pieces in the smokebox (available everywhere at a cost of 35 pence) which proved sufficient. More weight would be better. Today, I had the same engine pulling nine coaches without a problem and it's not an easy gradient by any means.

  • how do you keep it clean and stuff

  • @jamie12370 Takes a bit more effort than with an indoor layout but its still relatively easy. Just a brush with a small handbrush, a wipe with a standard track rubber and some track cleaning fluid in the CMX track cleaner and that's usually all that's required. More stubborn deposits such as bird droppings might need more attention. Not too difficult really and certainly worth the effort in the end.

  • This is looking great. I've been following your regular updates on your wesite/forum, keep up the good work! There was a bit of a bump in the track at 1:36, are you going to level that out a bit? Also I noticed you haven't yet covered all the nails in bitumen. I'm guessing you want to finish the main work first before the finishing touches! Be sure to check out my video (video response). I build lego trains, and sometimes run them around the garden (on a temporary layout).

  • @technoandrew Yes, the bump is annoying me too. I knew it was there when I laid the track but it wasn't so noticeable as it appears now, especially on video so I will have to do something about it. I'm pleased you mentioned the use of bitumen on the pin heads because I had thought of doing that and then wondered if it was the right thing to do. Your comment suggests it is so thanks for that - it too will be done! Thanks for the video response - going to take a look

  • @digest59 Having read your latest update, I just wanted to make sure you understood my last comment. I meant the nails that hold the roofing felt to the sides of the boards, not the actual track pins. I don't think doing it on them would be a good idea, as it would make any future changes quite difficult. However, I am by no means an expert on preserving things outdoors - I'm only 18 after all!

  • @technoandrew That's okay Andrew, I still intend to cover the pin heads securing the track to prevent them rusting further - like I said, it was something I had thought about doing and won't affect my ability to make changes to the track at a later date. The roofing felt tacks would also benefit so I could do them at the same time.

  • like the new extention, and the dcc sound makes it even better! Great Job with the viaduct!

  • @TopGearFan09 Thanks for that. If only DCC sound wasn't quite so expensive! It really does make all the difference even if the sounds aren't truly authentic - just that bit of 'chuff chuff' brings the loco alive almost. The viaduct is just wooden and I imagine will have a short life expectancy outdoors but it was one of THE things I had to have on my railway. I'll be doing my best to care for it as long as I possibly can.

  • @digest59 good luck with that then!
