Hi!I've just bought a 2GB 1066MHZ Hyper X(KHX8500D2/2G) to add with my 1gb Kingston (KVR800D2n6/g) But when i put them both it my comp just turns on but doesn't start(if u know what i mean)...i take out the hyperX ram and it turns on,i swap them around(putting in hyperX and taking the 1gb ram out) and my comp turns on,but doesn't start. I'm pretty newbish at this. :D Thanks in advanced!
I had 2 Gb Kingston DDR2 1100 and my CPUz showed about 536Mhz and FSB RATIO 16:10..Now I put Hyper X 2Gb on that and CPUz showing 334.6 Mhz and FSB RATIO 1:1..and mamory timings 5-5-5-15.So I'm a litlle confused now why is speed only 334 Mhz but improved FSB and timings?? they all runung at 1.8V haven't touch anything.. I have Intel procesor is it possible that GAGED HiperX slowing my old memory ?? Please help :)
@MrKostale Don't worry, thing is, I don't actually know how to explain why, but this happens to every RAM.
Eg.: If you put connect a 1066 mhz RAM in your pc, CPUz will tell you that you have around 533MHz of DRAM Frequency. Look in the vid at 2:04 . See? It says: DRAM frequency - 401.0 MHz, considering his memory is running at 800MHz, get it? Hope I helped.
@pedrohm706 I know that, its showing frequency for one chanel,I have ddr2 so its dual chanel mem. I was wondering why did it slow down after I put HiperX which should be better, and also is on 1066Mhz. Thanks anyway :D
Hey,I have a 2x2GB edition of this ram. With an intel processor do I put 1.8v 5-5-5-18 800MHz (DRAM 400) or I put it on 2.2v 5-5-5-15 1066MHz (DRAM 533).Do these have a difference in performance with intel processor or they are the same?
BTW I noticed problems when putting it to 1066.Do you have any Idea why?Is it because it is 2 RAM slots and 4 cores, and it is intel processor?
it turns on but it won't show any beep or image to the monitor. think it could be the ram that's messed up? my MB is Biostar ta780g m2+. i had two kingston kvr8002n5 1g....please help if you can.
@noobcontroll The battery is for the real time clock, and CMOS settings, not BIOS... BIOS and CMOS are two different things on the motherboard. BIOS usually requires a "Jumper" piece moved to reset it, CMOS is removing the batter for 5-10minutes typically.
@Bunongboyz Try a different video card, if you are using a attached gpu, try using the on-board gpu, if you do get a picture, and hit a blue screen, a mem stick could be faulty.
haha thats the worst intro song ever heard but great reviews anyways. uh the performance aint that great from 800 to 1066 so i'll stick to my a-data 2x2gb 800mhz memory at 900mhz :)
hi i billy i got an acer g7200 pc the Processor: AMD Phenom 9750 X4 2.4GHz Memory: 4GB (2 x 2GB) 800MHz RAM HD Capacity: 640GB Graphics Card: HD4850 512MB DDR3 Graphics Card Operating System: Vista Home Premium 64-bit SP1 Optical Drive: DVD-SM + DVD-ROM Air Cooled CPU Thermal Solution Acer Multimedia Keyboard and Optical Mouse Gigabit Ethernet 750W Power Supply what ram this one 2GB DDR2 800MHz Non-ECC CL5 or 2GB 800MHz DDR2 Non-ECC Low-Latency CL4 HyperX DDR2 memory
that one window titled CPU-Z, how do you get to it? i'm sorry i use XP and i'm trying to figure it out on my friend's PC. also my knowledge on PC's are very feeble :(
is not problem! ddr2 800mhz(efective) = 400mhz standart . ddr3 ar to! on the radeon video cards Gddr5 memory is 4x times standart,800mhz (ddr5)=800x4=3200mhz
In theory, the smaller (tighter is a better term) the timings, the better.
But you also have to keep in mind of the frequency your RAM is running and how your entire system reacts to it. Sometimes your system performs slightly better (benchmark-wise) if you loosen (increase) the timings a bit and increase the frequency up a bit. Sometimes it is vice-versa, tighten (decrease) the timings but lower the frequency. It all really depends on the RAM.
Correct on the loosening which gives more room for pushing freq up but wrong on RAM dependant.
The performance boost is application / benchmark dependant.
The RAM's main parameters, to simplify, are two: clock speed (MHz) and latency (timings). If benchmark asks for mass allocation then more MHz will win, if benchmark asks for quickness in response then low latency will win.
Answer: get the best MHz and tightest timings without going unstable ;)
400MHz is actually correct. Keep in mind this is DDR2 RAM. The "2" stands for Dual-Channel, which means that data transfer goes 2 ways, in and out, at the same time. So to explain this, take the 400MHz speed and multiply it by 2...you get the 800MHz that's advertised.
Same thing for 1066MHz. 533MHz in Dual Channel mode outputs to 1066MHz DDR2.
I hope this clear things up. You have no idea how many people mix this up and diss Kingston (or any other company) for it.
Help....i recently bought TWO Corsair 2gb 800mhz PC2-6400 for my DG31PR so i could have 4gb to replace my TWO 1gb Kingston 800mhz PC2-6400...(from 2gb to 4gb dual channel) but my motherboard can only detect one of the two corsairs...apparently one of them is damaged :/ what should i do???

hey dude.. was that a liquid cooling device inside your PC? the huge black thing that appears to be sitting on top of your CPU?

@PCWizKid Hey can you help me why I can't change ram voltage to 2.2 in AMD Overdrive i can only raise it to 2.1 ;( and if i set to 1066mhz and 5-5-5-15 it gives me bsod because of voltage what to do ? i updated bios today
Hello! So I have CPU-Z installed on my PC, version 1.51. And I noticed on your video, under Memory tab it tells you so much stuff. On mine, it only tells me the Type and Size which are under General section. Can you help me?
Hello I am building a new PC with M3A78-EM board, 4870 Vapor and Phenom 2 940be, this board supports DDR2 1066 and 800 (I DONT OVERCLOCK) and I dont know which one to get and why, anyone could please help me choose?
er... wanted to ask how would you ungang the ram? because i'm planning doing the exact things you mentioned in the video so i wonder how would you go about doing so.
thanks for the reply and quite an useful video for me (specially this is my first time building).
-calculate tRAS = original tCL +original tRP + original tRCD.
-calculate tRC = tRAS + tRP + 1, relax it by one.
•these settings result in the fastest memory read/write speed, and expectable memory copy speed. lowering tRAS will increase memory copy speed a bit but its not important, yo have to have stability too :D
I always lower tCL tRCD tRP, they give much better performance. Lowering tRAS makes the system unstable and results in a performance gain of 1% on my system. I have a DDR2 800MHz with specs 5-5-5-15-21 and I run it at 4-4-4-15-20, with no problems at 1.9V.
get a new mainboard for sure, ddr is lame and SOOO expensive. and id use that 1.2ghz cpu for overclocking practice. clock the hell out of it until it goes pop :) then buy a real proccesor lol
I have same mems but the K2/4G kit, does both bring similar performance and features? or there is some other difference with K4/G4 aside the 2 extra gb? btw, excelent review!
Some of the filters in the Photoshop CS3 can use multithreading, so desktops with multicore CPUs are likely to perform better than comparable systems that use CPUs with fewer cores or single-core CPUs.
setting RAM to unganged mode allows each memory module to be allocated to a specific CPU core on multicore processors right?
So, if I added another gig of DDR2 800mhz RAM to make 4 gigs of total system memory and upgraded to a quad core processor each memory module would have its own CPU core to use? just wondering
now i have several questions to start off with 1 meant in jest how the heck did you shoehorn that v8 small block into the case :) but seriously what is your machines specs (the 1 you did the benchmark on) i can see some of the answer in the video i.e. i believe the cpu is 3.1 ghz
anyway just curious and like bilalk85 says nice wire management, got me curious too :) wondering wheres the rest of it :) lol
Ram usually comes in kits of 2x2GB thats the average for DDR2. You can find 4x1GB also, it doesnt matter , however it works best if you dont mix them and use the same kind together only.
although here's 1 for laughs my comp has 1.5 gigs of ram 1 x 1 gig + 1 x 512 meg (same speed though) you can mix ram speeds just not ram types (i.e. DDR + DDR2 or DDR + rambus ram) anyhow..... :)
I love kingston's RAM products cause we bought 512mb of RAM at a store. it was awesome so we hooked up the ram in the computer Plus with 256mb of extra ram on my computer it makes 718mb of RAM awesome!
i know your running a AMD tri core and i got some interesting info about it. if you have a Biostar BIOS then you can unlock its 4th core, just a lil heads up incase you do have a Biostar board
will they work on a asus m3n72-d motherboard ?
and is there a 2x2gb kit ??

soma1509 2 years ago
@soma1509
DDR2 = Dual Data Rate 2 (Double Channel)
So DDR runs at double the bus frequency. The "2" means you have two channels to access data (so this is correct as you say).
DDR2 400MHz = DDR2-800 rating (which runs at 800MHz)
DDR3 600MHz = DDR3-1200 rating (which runs at 1200MHz)... NOT x3 because the DDR is Double Data Rate (not triple) !!!
The only exception is DDR5 graphic memory which runs at [bus x4] but that due to another reason which is too long to explain here.

Hello! So I have CPU-Z installed on my PC, version 1.51. And I noticed on your video, under Memory tab it tells you so much stuff. On mine, it only tells me the Type and Size which are under General section. Can you help me?

Depends of you mobo, he's mobo is more advanced :D

Seriously? Depend on THAT! That is so dumb. Weird, I have an ASUS Basswood mobo.

er... wanted to ask how would you ungang the ram? because i'm planning doing the exact things you mentioned in the video so i wonder how would you go about doing so.
thanks for the reply and quite an useful video for me (specially this is my first time building).

My calculations:
-lower tCl if possible by 1
-lower tRP if possible by 1
-lower tRCD if possible by 1
-calculate tRAS = original tCL +original tRP + original tRCD.
-calculate tRC = tRAS + tRP + 1, relax it by one.
•these settings result in the fastest memory read/write speed, and expectable memory copy speed. lowering tRAS will increase memory copy speed a bit but its not important, yo have to have stability too :D
crhasher 2 years ago
I always lower tCL tRCD tRP, they give much better performance. Lowering tRAS makes the system unstable and results in a performance gain of 1% on my system. I have a DDR2 800MHz with specs 5-5-5-15-21 and I run it at 4-4-4-15-20, with no problems at 1.9V.

how to unganged the ram??
dgreat1000 2 years ago
@dgreat1000 you need to go into your BIOS and in your DRAM settings you can find the ganged option and disable it.
PCWizKid 2 years ago
but what if the advanced settings in @dgreat1000's are hidden? how exactly is he supposed to change his DRAM settings then?
some motherboards have a rather odd BIOS setup, mine is a Pheonix award BIOS and I cant even get to my CPU voltage settings.
undeadshooter 2 years ago
I just realised my board only supports DDR...Extremely...shockingly *shudders* expensive DDR...
O_o So now I'm wondering what to do with THIS memory, lol. (I have an old 1.2GHZ CPU and Kingston HyperX DDR2 just lying around, lol)
Rct3man777 2 years ago
send them back to shop, or sell
spilfster 2 years ago
get a new mainboard for sure, ddr is lame and SOOO expensive. and id use that 1.2ghz cpu for overclocking practice. clock the hell out of it until it goes pop :) then buy a real proccesor lol

Photoshop is not a "Multithreted" app
r how ever you spell it
Cheburashka94 2 years ago
Some of the filters in the Photoshop CS3 can use multithreading, so desktops with multicore CPUs are likely to perform better than comparable systems that use CPUs with fewer cores or single-core CPUs.
PCWizKid 2 years ago
setting RAM to unganged mode allows each memory module to be allocated to a specific CPU core on multicore processors right?
So, if I added another gig of DDR2 800mhz RAM to make 4 gigs of total system memory and upgraded to a quad core processor each memory module would have its own CPU core to use? just wondering
undeadshooter 2 years ago
You are correct, that is the idea.
PCWizKid 2 years ago
That is a cool idea to, a great way to prevent anything running in the background from interfering with your primary application, especially games.
undeadshooter 2 years ago
mine doesnt even have a ganged mode its just a blank

Are these videos all part of some sort of personal computer you've been building, or just product reviews?
If so, can you post all the specs of the system when you're done?
h3wlett 2 years ago
now i have several questions to start off with 1 meant in jest how the heck did you shoehorn that v8 small block into the case :) but seriously what is your machines specs (the 1 you did the benchmark on) i can see some of the answer in the video i.e. i believe the cpu is 3.1 ghz
anyway just curious and like bilalk85 says nice wire management, got me curious too :) wondering wheres the rest of it :) lol
jinarion1 2 years ago
nvm answer to question 2 found (by accident even) in a review of the v8 cpu cooler :)

say i want to buy hyper X Ram for my computer but it has 3GB regular RAM. Will i have to buy a 4GB kit or it wouldnt matter?
yasersamerraei 2 years ago
Ram usually comes in kits of 2x2GB thats the average for DDR2. You can find 4x1GB also, it doesnt matter , however it works best if you dont mix them and use the same kind together only.

kainaussie 2 years ago
although here's 1 for laughs my comp has 1.5 gigs of ram 1 x 1 gig + 1 x 512 meg (same speed though) you can mix ram speeds just not ram types (i.e. DDR + DDR2 or DDR + rambus ram) anyhow..... :)

about to order some of these (2x2GB) to add to my 2x2GB Corsair Dominator's :p

I think only on modern AMD chips with two memory controllers.

HOW DO I CHANGE FORM A GANG TO UNGANG MEMORY?
just out of curiosity, why alter the 'tras' from 18- 15...
I reckon it might be worth making a tutorial on accessing the bios and making all the amendments you mentioned..
obviously its a novice here..
