  • I'm getting the impression somebody got a new camera in 1965 : )

  • @MrDennisatthebeach Bet so! Roddy was actually an extremely talented photographer, both in stills and movies. He had many books of them published...

  • Love these...thanks for all your info!

  • @calalilygirl My pleasure- hooray for Hollywood!

  • So many beautul people in one spot! Natalie really was Hollywood elite wasn't she?

  • @calalilygirl The absolute top of the mountain in 1965! Take a look at our clip of silent footage titled Robert Wagner Natalie Wood Jerry Lewis Keely Smith Hollywood Party Ambassador Hotel 1961

  • Three Oscar Nominations by 1965!

  • @calalilygirl Have you ever seen Love with the Proper Stranger with Steve McQueen? Her BEST work!

  • @soapbxprod I will look into it. Thanks.

  • @calalilygirl You will love it. Shot on location in NYC in 1963 I think. Sydney Pollack was the Assistant Director.

  • @soapbxprod

I can't seem to find "Love With The Proper Stranger". It doesn't appear to be on DVD. I wonder why?

  • @brooklynborn81 I think that you can get it through TCM, if that helps... I know that it was released forever ago on VHS...

  • @soapbxprod

Unfortunately, it's not on DVD yet. I do see a few VHS copies. Should have kept my VCR....LOL. I'm sure the chemistry between Natalie and McQueen was good!

  • LOVE love these, seeing the "stars" as real people... They eat and drink and everything... :)

  • @happels Thanks SO MUCH for your kind words. Hot dogs and jug wine and Marlboros! So damn NORMAL!

  • @soapbxprod and little kids drinking bottled cokes.. and can't forget they are eating on paper plates.. What a treat to watch!!!

  • @happels Right! Paradise lost? :)!

  • wow what a great video

  • @RealityBallet Lost more clips here on our channel! Thanks.

  • Interesting and fun to see these stars hanging out. Amazing how all looks so simple then compared to today with I am sure mega mansions there now. Thanks for posting.

  • @244rjs That's what everyone says! Check out our rough assembly "Hollywood 1965" here on our channel page...

  • At the time of this home movie Mike Nichols, didn't have any directing or producing credits in film. Do you know if he was directing theater at this point in his career?

  • @brooklynborn81 Mike Nichols directed Neil Simon's "Barefoot in the Park" on Broadway in 1963. He was preparing to direct "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" in the Summer of 1965.

  • @soapbxprod

Thanks! Didn't know that.... I see Mr. Nichols won the Tony Award that year too.

  • @brooklynborn81 Sure thing! I'm sure that you know all about his founding Second City with Elaine May?

  • @soapbxprod

Yes....A very talented man! I wonder if he was offered the job to direct the film version of 'Barefoot in The Park'? Although he might have been busy with "The Graduate'

  • @brooklynborn81 Hard to say but entirely possible! Gene Saks directed the film of "Barefoot"- Neil Simon's close collaborator for 20 years- and a seasoned veteran of Broadway and television as well as movies- and it was released in 1967- same year as The Graduate...

  • These are breath-taking. I noticed that there are almost no TV stars of the day present. Back then , were they looked upon as the "lower class" ? I guess it was for the fact that Roddy did not work in TV. It would be interesting if he had taken movies circa 1972 or so. Do any of these home movies go into the 1970s????

  • @konga5 Actually, TV wasn't looked upon that way back then- Ben Gazzara, who is in many of the other clips on our channel, was starring in Run For Your Life at the time. There are other examples of other actors in the clips who also did a lot of TV- Dennis Hopper, Jack Warden... Actors, writers, and directors all take the work when it's offered! If someone wants them, that someone is their kind of man- or woman!

  • Icredible footage!

  • @soapbxprod no relation as far as I know- it's really just a play on my own name which is sorta similar! hehe

  • @KalBackus Wasn't Jim Backus GREAT in REBEL? And it's a MAD MAD World! Cheers to you from across the pond! :)!

  • @soapbxprod he sure was- but who wasn't great in that movie- Nicholas Ray really made a classic! Will there be anymore footage of Sal Mineo by any chance? He was absolutely stand out in that film and I've been a fan of his ever since I saw it. His biography, by Michaud, was a real interesting read. Natalie's incredible in all this footage you have of her too and Paul Newman... all these gatherings and parties- can't thank you enough, they're all favorites of mine!

  • @KalBackus Sure my friend- I think that there is more footage of Sal- check back in a few days! And I was in love with Natalie Wood from the time I first saw her... Robert Wagner narrated our biography of Lana Turner. When we finshed recording him , he said to me, Stay cool, Luke. I almost fell over! It's here on our channel- soapbxprod. Enjoy!

  • @soapbxprod I actually watched that today- wonderful job! Didn't know much about Turner before- but I love many of those old movies- 'The Postman Always Rings Twice' is one of them!

  • @KalBackus One of the best. My Father's stepfather, Harry Sacher, was John Garfield's attorney.

  • @soapbxprod hard to believe that Turner initially disliked Garfield when making that film, judging by the obvious chemistry they have. Love what was said in the biography, that she was always looking to push the boundaries- you really notice it in that film especially the beach scene!

  • @KalBackus Lana's great teacher was Lillian Burns Sidney- wife of director George Sidney, and head dramatic coach at MGM. She taught them all- called Lana, Debbie Reynolds, and my adopted auntie Janet Leigh her three daughters... she never had children herself. She is featured in our Rat Pack documentary.

  • just a hunch- not really familiar with him, but is that Troy Donahue at 1:42?

  • @KalBackus That is EXACTLY RIGHT! Bravo! Are you perhaps related to Jim Backus? I'm Abner Biberman's grandson! He directed episodes of Gilligan's Island!

  • I think we might know each other...
