Why take your chances of getting tossed in waist/knee high water and getting hurt and loosing your gear? Whenever I'm landing I sit just short of where the waves are breaking, check how deep is with my paddle and simply jump off and walk my kayak in. Who cares if you get wet, at least you're OK and you didn't loose any gear. Besides, I always have a change of clothes.
I think all of these wipe outs could have been avoided with a "low brace". Just enter "low brace" into the You Tube search box and you will find all the instruction you need. Then you will be enjoying, not dreading, surf landings.
Ha Ha Ha ! Oh, the weights, lures and pliers that I`ve lost! Yeah, everyone definitely needs to practice surfing on differant days than you are fishing. Maybe practice surfing with some weight still on the kayak though, like a cooler loaded with ice or something. Then, when you have all your fishing gear on board you are way less likely to dump it when surfing it in. Yeah, we all wipeout sometimes but those are pretty small waves to be tipping on fellas. Practice, practice, practice!
nice wipe outs had a few good ones the weekend just gone got my 13ft verticle coming of the face of a wave and flipped it end over end when the nose dug in
nice wipe outs. In nearly every case, sustained power strokes and or braces would have saved you guys.
Way to post the video for instructional purposes =)

Awesome stuff Johnny! This clip reminds me of myself on Sunday 4/20 my first launch out of LJ. I only wish my "recovery" was half as graceful.
