  • From a dig the AWD has the total advantage. Hp. does't enter into it. The stage 2 is putting out about 270 hp. and is lighter, the tunned EVO over 300 easy. Even a stage 3 would get beat from a dig, from a roll it might be a good race. I got a 2011 3dr GTI, APR stage 1. BTW the GTI is still the better car. Slower, but better!

  • evos will beat any car within the price range I have an 07 gti I love it but an evo would poop all over my car. It even beats an sti. I don't know about a modded sti but stock definetley.

AWD will always beat out FWD for racing applications but a stage 2 GTI will hang with a stock evo if not pulling on it from a roll. Yeah stock vs modded but consider the price tag difference anyway. A stage 3 GTI would put up a better showing. Also ludedude007 you could not be more wrong about those trap times.

  • The Evo is a great car for massive bursts of speed, definitely faster than a GTI for the money, and that scales. But the GTI is so much nicer. I would dread a 1,500 mile road trip in an Evo, but it's a breeze in the GTI. It all depends on what you're looking for, the Evo is a specialty car that does one thing really well, while the GTI is a good car all around.

  • Seriously guys, i have a 2010 GTI stage 2, you are stupid if you think we can take a big turbo evo like that lol. Now if you wanna argue money the evo is way more expensive (unless you buy used) gti base is 22500 evo base is above 30 for sure (not sure the number) put 6 grand in the GTI for the APR stage 3 conversion and it would walk on this evo (sorry evo fans) but VW guys dont get happy because if the evo put 6 grand in his car too say bye bye GTI is great but its not the fastest.

  • This video is fake for anyone who gives a shit....dont get me wrong...any evo with any mods will beat a stg 2 vw....but you have to realize the evo turbo is like twice the size...put a k04 on a vw FMIC fuel pump intake and tbe...with a tune...the vdub would rape....and if you want to break it down more that makes the cars truly "equal" seeing as tho engine size and turbo size are now the same...plus even with those mods the vdub is WAY cheaper than a new Evo....

Evo's aren't more expensive just because they are faster in a straight line. They are balanced AWD cars people use for racing. Not FWD hatchback economy box's that have a little pep from their turbo, which is the size of a baseball.

  • @ludedude077 even if the vw's came with a bigger turbo, they are still front wheel drive and front end heavy so it wouldnt even matter lol. take it from me, i had a dsm, (loved it til i blew it up) figured id try soemthing new, i liked the looks of the GLI, so i got one, and first off, they arent that bad of a car, just cant compare it to an evo. the 1.8t motor just isnt nearly as mod friendly as a 4g63 motor. so right there is what really kills the volkswagens.

    Yah dude but if you're thinking about spending 15 grand to make 400whp. That's WAY to much money. 3-6 grand is the real ball park number to hit 400whp. APR is the shit for the 1.8T but that's a huge rip off in price.

    I make 300awhp with intake and exhaust on my evo. My 1.8T had a borgwarner K04 and manifold, almost full bolt-ons and I suspected it to be around 230-240ish

    Yeah but the new GTIs (2006+) can be put to 400HP with less than 6.5 grand (installed) APR stage 3 kit is 5 grand and on 100 oct fuel puts 400HP to the crank WHP numbers around 370s i dont remember wheel tq numbers tho. And for less than 1 grand you can make the GTI stage 2 and im currently stage 2 putting down 260 to the wheels and around 290 on the crank. Bang for your buck is the GTI any day, it just will never be the fastest car. It appeals to the more mature driver.

    We are not talking about the 2.0T FSI. But if i wanted to argue, I would argue those engines are known for burning up to 1quart of oil every 1k miles. Look up VWOA and see that is with in spec.

    Bang for your buck has never been the GTI. 1 grand if sorted correctly and I'm looking up to 350whp in my evo. The FSI is a strong motor but both the 1.8T and FSI fall short when it comes to internals.

    For 5g's, a honda S2K can make 550-700whp daily driven on stock bottom end.

    Um i think you have jumped the gun here, of course you can drop 5k in a few diff cars to make 400WHP but a brand new evo is 30+ grand a brand new GTI is 24 grand, 6k in GTI is 400 WHP and 2 grand in your evo makes 400 WHP im still 2 grand cheaper than you on a bad day, and my interior is 10x better... We can play the mod game BS all day long, the cheapest car to get to 400 HP brand new out of the ones listed is GTI. And the TSI motor is amazing...do your research.

    I've done my research more than enough to know to not buy a money pit known as a VW. I've owned way to damn many VW's. If u want to dog the Evo's interior the X has very nice interior!! Second your GTI is wrong wheel drive. Don't be a fan boy. Did I ever mention anything about a TSI? No i did not. The evo is superior. I'll spend my extra 2-4 grand to have functional rear wheels thank you. Not to mention my car is 10x easier to work on bud.

    The FSI motor had cam follower issues and fuel pump issues, that was a bad engine design, but in 09 they started the TSI and the TSI engine is an amazingly engineered motor. Evos are nice. i like them, they are quicker than a GTI hands down, they will always be quicker, put 4k in an EVO and 4 k in a GTI the EVO still wins, no one can argue that. But if you are looking for a car to put 400hp down for cheap and still have a sick interior, GTI wins hands down.

    Yes I totally agree with you on that. The interior on VW's always seem to be a little ahead of their time and look very nice especially for the price.

    Tuned Evo vs a tuned GTI MKV is like Men and Boys. On a road course, auto cross, circuit track, drag strip, dirt road, lol.

    One's a 102mph trap car with a tune and bolt-ons...The others a low 12 second car trapping ~ 112-115mph. Not close

    My K04 1.8T was weak sauce.. Rape? Seriously? Good luck getting to 250whp with boltons like that and that's even with a good k04. No turbo upgrade and ur looking at 300awhp with just a tune in the evo.

    Now don't get me wrong the GTI is a really nice car. My little bro lives with me and I've driven his car hundreds of times and worked on it many. He has a 07 GTI fully loaded.

    I've owned many VW's and the only one I've kept out of the bunch is my 1979 16v 1.8L PL Scirocco S.

No hating here, but the Evo is AWD, and the Gti is FWD...You might have a 500 hp evo running in the low 11's, but there are 700hp b18 powered FWD civics that run the same.... Its comparing apples to oranges in a car sense....Anyway, about the vid, it obviously is true. A "Reflash" could mean anything...

  • Unless the Evo is your buddy, I don't see the point of this race. Stock the Evo would probably still kill an STG2 GTI, unless the driver is retarded, so with all the mods this one has, you had no chance (well, maybe if he was getting a BJ at the time)

    I have an STG2 GTI and I dont' waste time with EVOs, since they are NEVER stock around here.

  • i love both cars for different reasons. There is no comparison between these cars its apples and oranges. thats why reviews always compares evo's to sti's and gti's to speed3's and civic si's.

    track/racing - evo wins.

    spirited driving/cruises/work/dinner/lo­ng trips/fit &finish, actually anything else that is not solely speed and traction based - GTI wins.

    and if you really need speed too, buy a gti and a bike,

  • gti vs evo is no match up lol i have a gti and love it but its a lil fwd hatch they are quick when tuned and all but until fully built im talkin like gutted big turbo cams pistons the works wont stay with a tuned evo . . then you build an evo and its over . . they just arent in the same class put that evo against a tuned sti or maybe an s4 or something more in the same class of car. vw does get the ladies tho so idc

  • Love the GTI's - great cars - and have THE BEST cabin qualities you can buy at their price - but unless you fully strip the car and rebuild it than the EVO is always going to be the faster car unless your are racing stock to highly tuned which in essence is not fair or even reasonable to compare. Both car have better traits than the other. I prefer a really sporty car and a high amount of luxury.

    If you have a k04 you'd definitely be able to beat a stock Evo 9 from a roll, but from a dig he'd probably still run a quicker 1/4 mile time. And once he starts modding it's game over for your car. Those cars can see 120+ traps still on a stock turbo!

    If you have some kind of special build then anythings possible. But there are stock turbo Evo's in this world that are faster then the fastest 'built, big turbo' GTI MKV's.

  • @cubanbrew the evo is a better all around car no matter what, who cares about the price new, a used evo isnt all the expensive, so with price out of the equation, the evo beats the gti in everything but MPG and ride comfort, but who the fuck cares, most people that mod their VW's end up making the ride harsh because it makes the car better. it is WAY cheaper and easier to mod an evo, therefore making it a friendly car, what is the gti good at? being front end heavy and being front wheel drive.

    The best I can do for you is say watch this video. This is an APR stage 2 GTi with supporting mods (no meth or fuel pump). This GTI has gone to the track and run his car. The best he ever got with these mods was 13.8@103mph.

    This Evo when it was STOCK bro went 12.9@107mph!

    With a tune and bolt-ons they are much faster. 12.0-12.2ish @ 110-112mph

    Sorry buddy, but you couldn't be more wrong. You do realize evo's with bolt-ons and a tune will run in the low 12's trapping around 110-112? The same Intake, turbo-back exhaust, and chip mods your GTI has turn Evo's into low - mid 12 second cars that trap ~ 110-112mph. Your basic stage 2 GTI would be lucky to trap @ 102-103mph on a good day.

  • EVOs are great track cars, no questions. However VW focuses on the overall value of the car, with plush interiors and super driving feel. And you can't pull up to a formal event in a Mitsubishi, like you can in a VW. If you want a fast engine with wheels on a "pepsi" can get an EVO, If you want to sacrafice that for more luxury, get a VW. If you don't like either, TAKE THE BUS!

  • Your making the GTI more than what it is. A 700 HP GTI would have traction issues, and if it didn't it's because you would have several inches of drag radials sticking out of each size. 700 HP you are talking GT40r turbo You would never see power until around 5.5K and even with a built head you probably won't be going past 8500. 3K worth of powerband! The Evo is nice, stop trying to discredit it by saying shit like "Oh well if it raced the Dahlback Golf it would lose!"

  • @kingplaya Dahlbacks GTI was AWD not FWD. My stock 02 GTI will chirp gears with a set of all seasons. The GTI is a nice car and I love mine to death, but it isn't built up on rally based technology like the EVO. EVO is a perfect track car and race car. Aside from the high insurance premiums if I had the money I'd check one out. For now my GTI is great for car shows and some runs.

  • The R8 traps ~ 110-111mph. I wouldn't mention that car in the same breath as a SUPER car. Look's wise, yes. But far from supercar performance. There are stock cars that trap in the 120's.

Their turbos are probably about 2 times bigger than ours nd they run like 10 psi more than we do. I dont kno what you have against v-dubs buddy. There actually really nice cars. They may not be as fast as te evo, but there still awesome cars

    A reflashed Evo 9 with a couple bolt-ons is a low low 12 second car trapping in the teens! Your "chipped" (lmao) GTI MKV is exactly where with a DP?? This evo could be stock and it would still rape that GTI.

  • I am a GTI owner also, and I definitely know that I wouldn't be able to put up a fight with an Evo even if I was chipped, had a full exhaust system, intake, and all these little mods that may shave off a second on the 0-60 time. You need to do REAL upgrades to take an Evo. GT3071r would do the trick. 7k including labor and you're good to go.

  • yea, those mkv's are pigs compared to the mkIV.. my gti can hang with stock evo's and its chipped, 3" tb, 007dv.. but thats pushin it.. and i seem to fall farther behind the faster we go.. damn box designs lol

  • Dude, a 'stage 2' gti, if its by APR, is a chip and exhaust, maybe an intercooler.. putting the car at around 215-220 at the wheels...

  • That Evo only has a reflash, 3" turboback exhaust, and a MBC. Still on STOCK TURBO.

    With those 3 power adding mods and a clutch that evo was running 12.2@112 on stock tires.

    That's like your basic 'simple' chip and exhaust, plus a MBC.

    STock that Evo 9 was going 12.9@107. Even that would bee too much for a stage 2+ GTI from a roll. Let alone a dig.

    A bigger turbo Evo would have the potential to pretty much rape anything you could ever think about doing to your GTI.

I have a 2005 Evo VIII and before i got the Ams gt35r turbo kit, Ams fuel injectors and a bottom end rebuild i was running around 390 to the crank with a reflash, a turbo back exhaust, and a hks mega flow intake. And my friend has a gti mkv with a stage 2 kit and it was always pretty close maybe 3 to 5 car pull but now with a bigger turbo and bottom end it puts me close to 600 awhp and its no match i pull on him hard at least 10 to 15 cars But the mkv's are still fun to drive!

  • LOL Bro Evo's IX with MBC, Drop in Filter, and TurboBack, is an easy low 12's second car trapping around 108 to 110 mph just those simple mods would kill ur stock turbo GTi that would neve trap those times with the stock turbo and even on meth ,u would need a lot more than that...   • I don't know why they don't understand this. They seem to think the Evo's are over rated, yet The fastest stock turbo GTI MKV in the WORLD runs a 13.0@107mph. That's full bolt-on with meth and on DR's.

    And that's the only 1. The next fastest guy is a good bit behind him too.

    If you want to play with even a lightly bolted on Evo ix, the GTI is going to need a bigger turbo.
