@GAM3Rchick1218 she was ignored by her grandfather because she was doing everything the future leader of the tribe would do better and faster than any of the boys. its her fate to be leader. thats why she rides on top of the whale and leads them back to the sea like their heroic ancestor did. eventually the grandfsther cannot deny that she is the one who was supposed to lead all along.its a very beautiful movie.

Koro, the tribes leader believed that the leaders ignored her because of her gender. Koro opens up a boys only school to the community in search of the next male leader but fails.
