Thanks so much for this helpful video. I'm looking to replace the digitizer on my Oregon 450 and thanks to you I'm now confident I can do it. Many thanks.
many thanks for this video, i have just replaced the digitizer on my Oregon 500 following your step by step instructions, i'd never have attempted it without your video so i owe you a huge thankyou!
Just to add, the process is pretty much exactly the same for a 500 although you have to unclip the digital camera cable from the circuit board first, other than that there was no difference in the process.
Is the digitizer the part you actually touch? If not, what is the outermost part of the screen called? I can't find a liting for anything other than screen protectors.

I bought it and replaced it. Beware that it is grey under the logo (not orange), and feels a little "rougher" - but not bad at all, some might say its better that way. Have not tried outdoors yet, under direct sunlight to see the difference.
I'm about to do this for a garmin model 1490. The digitizer is shot but you can still see the lcd screen. Could you do a tutorial for an automotive garmin model?
@moviebuffenb Sorry I don't own the model you stated. I'm not a Garmin professional and have made this video while repairing my own Oregon, which was at the time broken.
I got the digitizer from eBay. Just search for "garmin oregon 300 digitizer" and you'll find what you need.
In case your LCD screen is also broken (the device doesn't show any picture or shows it only partially) then you should also buy the LCD. I tried searching for that to but without any luck - I couldn't find any.
You can try contacting one of the sellers who sell spare parts for cell phones (search for "spare parts LCD screen").
If you find any please leave a comment here for others.
Many thanks for the video. The Torx bit required is size 6 (T6). A new digitiser was bought from here keeping touch dot com (one word) and arrived in New Zealand from Hong King in less than a week Thanks again, Tony
Many many thanks to the person who made this video. I moved from using older (bulkier) GPS devices to the Oregon 450 recently. In the past I used to keep my GPS in my pocket, only bringing it out when I wanted to check my position. Since the Oregon came with a carabiner I got into the habit of hooking it to my backpack. Well, I managed to drop the pack and crack the screen of the Oregon. This video and a $23 replacement screen solved the problem. Proof that the internet does have its uses!
thank you for this, i had to replace my digitizer on my Oregon 550t. The vid helped big time. ONly issue i had was fitting the metal screen backing back into the case.

Yes, the digitizer is the part you touch - it's the touch sensor. Search for "digitizer" and you'll find what you're looking for!

Thanks for the video.
It looks like I can do it. :)
Where can buy the replacement parts for my oregon 400t ?
Is there any on-line available map of parts for this model?

@11875628 You can get a spare digitizer on ebay. As for an on-line map of spare parts, I don't really know.
Good luck with the repairs!

@gshockmonkey Yes fitting the screen back into casing is the tricky part. I'm glad you managed to fix your Oregon!

I suppose that by screen you mean the digitizer. You can get those for under $20 on eBay.

So where do you get the screens from?
