@ MsOndine and pastorekaren---- do you know why danny's facebook mentions 2 friends - christine and john mcvie? is there another page? yesterday i posted , and suggested that likely danny had encountered a married woman(on the road?), , but maybe his own wife was who he referred to. or a band member . anyway, we know he was a young innocent , treated as a dishrag, and he was a soul that would rather suffer than hurt anyone else. while bloodied he tried to be helpful. he couldn't leave.

don't forget that his solo songs are gorgeous. 32 songs plus alternate takes, on 4 disks. his legacy is secure. but he is so much more than a beautiful songwriter, singer , and guitarist. i simply cannot imagine having a more loyal ,devoted, caring, loving friend than danny kirwan. that is how i hear him. and how i see him. it isn't just me. everyone here cherishes him.

@ pastorekaren and MsOndine i have a suspicion that there is a sexual angle to the story. i remember reading that danny didn't care for married women . why would he say that? he likely had such an experience. but what if it was within the band? danny is beautiful, and approachable. he would have done anything for those band mates. his last night he hurts himself,stays, thinking he is helpful, not to hurt them. he wouldn't hurt anything but himself. he just can't hurt them

You bring up yet another great point: I often talk about how the rest of them [aside from Green] did not do their work, & that Danny of course was saddled with doing ALL their work combined as they partied 24/7, but you bring up perhaps a more devistating point: it seems they COULD NOT do much of anything, most of all McVie & bless him Fleetwood too! & after Green left this band LIVED off of Danny's winning formula, still to this day: with more of a sellout twist to the sound:it's Dannys

@msOndine I LOVE what you have said here! I strive to reveal what Danny did in his career on DANNY KIRWAN the FB COMMUNITY PAGE. Had a troll come on but I took him on & he fled. Sadly if people with mass media PR attention as HUGE CELEBRITIES repeat lies enough times everyone starts to believe it. And for these celebs people love to keep calling Danny names for drinking & for having suffered mental illness, it's bloodsoaked hypocricy & bigotry. We need to remember that Danny saved the band when Green left BUT he also saved the first version of the band: Green was going to leave music : unless Danny did the work of all the others combined, while GReen did half the songs & Danny the whole other half: plus take over lead half the time, then most of the time on guitar: Danny was 5 yrs younger at 17, but did this perfectly freeing Green up to write brilliant songs: they outsold the Beatles/Stones combined. if not for Danny it was over.

They stressed danny to no end, so he was alone most of the time: HE WAS WORKING while they took drugs/partied: so they could not relax around him : THEY WERE partied like jerks while HE WAS DOING MOST OF THEIR WORK & trying to get them to do THEIR jobs, without complaining: So he was like one with autism, his illness worked on him that way, BUT HE WAS ALONE DOING 75% OF THEIR WORK: they went on to spend millions on rehab for themselves but you say look where the dumped mentally ill one ended up

John Mcvie and Mick Fleetwood never put anything into the group musically. Some of the best tunes came from Danny and Peter`s songwriting They were so much in harmony with each other. when danny smiles , he is an angel. he is a bit older now, yet there is a light inside him , and he will smile and laugh again. danny is a gentle giant of popular music, as sweet and wonderful as anyone could wish. it is true , some photos did not capture his smile. why fm abandoned danny-- my guess is that j mcvie may have had homosexual issues concerning danny, and danny did not .

Yes, I know what you mean:) Physical beauty is only interesting, when it's combined with talent. That he now looks differently than 40 years ago, doesn't make his talent shine any less brighter or make his personality any different. I hope he gets the recognition he deserves in time. He deserves a book, website or documentary of his own, in which is told what he meant for FM as a guitar player/composer/arranger/singe­r.

Fleetwood claims he was Danny's friend. But when he didn't need him anymore, he dumped him flat. But I have a strong suspicion that the real reason he always feels the need to ignore him (in documentaries, his autobiography etc) is probably because McVie forces him to. No idea what really went on there, but I have a strong suspicion their story is very coloured. And there is also Bob Welch. He wanted Danny fired more than a half year before it actually happened...

Peter did similar to him. That's how we became friends. The tragedies in this tale are senseless/sad

I think it's for a big part jealousy from McVie's side. Peter Green hired Danny, not only because of his very striking guitar skills, but also because McVie and Fleetwood were no songwriters at all and Jeremy Spencer only was able to come up with one after the other Elmore James imitation. Also Spencer didn't want or couldn't play duets with Peter. Apart from this, McVie was a rather plain looking guy compared to Danny, a stunning blond hunk, noticed by gals like Janice Joplin:)

In many books, FM websites, fan documentaires, like Videobiography or the Unbroken Chain he is almost completely ignored, or treated like some hired hand. Green hired Danny to play INTERCHANGEABLE GUITAR and to TAKE OVER LEAD MOST of the time in the studio & onstage, & to write HALF the songs on the new album. Danny did that at 17! @Kristopful Perhaps the wreaking of the quitar was the excuse that some of the band members needed? The band was having problems with Danny long before he walked off stage. Bob Welch was the only band member who talked to Danny . The rest of the band had just wEARY OF HIM. Ignoring the problem is not the way out. The Stones had the same probelm the Brian Jones. He became a mental burdon on the band with his behavior.

@Kristopful Apparently he just wasn’t getting along with members of the band (according to a couple of biographies) and his drinking was a problem as well (wasn’t McVie having problems?). So it was a number of things that culminated in the incident where he (I think) smashed his guitar then sat out a gig. Fleetwood was pressured to let him go at that point. But I agree on his musical contribution to the group. Just listen to “Kiln House” and Bare trees.

I think he really knows to hide his hate. But if you carefully watch, you see he makes this very disrespectfully gesture with his hand, when he is talking about Danny, the few times he mentioned him. People who worked with McVie, even Fleetwood say, he is a master in mindgames. And it's hard to win from him. Also his drunken moods are written about in detail in Fleetwood autobiography. He once tried to kill Christine while they were married.

I have read Peter Greens life story and It mentions that Danny was drifting appart from the others before Mick Fleetwood fired him. From what I have read he was becoming unworkable with the rest of the band. A very talented guitarist in his own right though. As for Danny`s mental state just look where he ended up.

I am not judging Danny though. Just my thoughts on the whole part of what happend back then.

i really like this cover. This is one of my favourite mac songs. When i play it, i usually either put a 7th in the B chord, or I add on an E (4th fret B string) and B (open B string) while playing a B power chord.

How you play it sounds cool though.
