He's sucked up all the life from this masterpiece. The technique is absolutely remarkable but something important is missing.I don't think Paganini would agree with this "perfection"..He was a virtuoso with style and passionate with life.Heifetz is..."dead".
@Chryseis777 Heifetz is known for having a serious face whilst performing. but can you not hear all the emotion in this? don't let the visual aspect effect your judgment of Heifetz musicality. Close your eyes if you must because I'm afraid you have to listen a little harder and dig a little deeper to hear the liveliness Heifetz is displaying.
this would be so much better if there was no piano...
sorry but sometimes the staccato from the piano takes away the emotion from the violin in the first minute or so, and then when the violin goes up and down in thirds, like the piano is just playing the chords for a backup. and when the violin plays staccato, it's suppose to ring, but does it? no, cuz the piano interrupts with chords.
btw im a pro piano player. so... like im not demeaning the instrument
Yeah, it's quite an experience when you hear it for the first time like this isn't it? I keep rewinding this over and over. I didn't even know people could do these things with a violin ;)
@ascheepe No kidding! I'm not a string player, so I don't think I can fully appreciate every part of this, but it still makes my jaw drop. He's definitely a performer. His bowing technique, musicality, intonation, and tone quality are all impressive. He's so effortless. I don't know what this is called, but that one part where he's plucking the strings with his left hand and bowing with the right hand amazes me every time.
Oh, and do you know if this is the violinist Liszt was inspired by?
when I first watched this I was so amazed. I even asked I hope that part you mention is not how I tune my guitar. If I'm not mistaken it's called flagolet and (never tried it on a violin) is really hard to do right. Oh well, that goes for the whole part, I still can't believe how easily he plays this. I mentioned many moons ago that this must be how paganine played at a graveyard at night. At least it makes me understand that sentence a bit better.
He plays like something beyond a human being. If you even compare him to the greatest living violinists of today, he has a quality of being a total master that exceeds anything I have every heard or seen playing a piece that certainly separates the men from the boys. Magnificent! Superb! Preeminent performance, none better!
when any one just say( heifetz )i say wow ..then i keeb my mouth shut

After hearing different versions, heifetz's style has the most spirit and vigor.
Some might say its too fast for their taste, but its just right for me. In fact, its perfect.
