  • What a whole load of tosh David Cameron says! Like the comments below, the tories have never changed at all since Maggie's government was in power. We have no industries now because of her! Everything has been privatized, and i'm surprised the UK economy can cope with nothing industrial bring in money!

The tories haven't changed there tune about lower and middle class people, like most of us! So, think long and hard before you vote, and look at what you take for granted now!

  • @TopGearrules What is that we "take for granted now" - I have to ask. The disastrous policies of this Labour government, implemented by the economically illiterate Gordon Brown, have left us less productive, more in debt than ever before, with a stifled private sector increasingly subservient to a bloated public sector, faith in our very democracy at an all-time nadir and fascist nationalists (BNP) at unprecedented levels of support after a decade of disgraceful immigration policies.

  • @TopGearrules So what, I ask, should we be grateful for? I haven't even yet mentioned the appalling treatment of our armed forces under Labour - always willing to send them in to war, never willing to properly equip them. And what of our public services? They've had billions spent on them, but the money has gone into the pockets of bureaucrats and upper management because Labour didn't have the strength of conviction to carry out proper reform for fear of upsetting their Union paymasters.

  • @TopGearrules Peter Mandleson - the second most powerful man in Britain, who is an unelected peer (a further assault on our democracy) - recently attacked the Tories for proposing a reduction of the State's power and control over the lives of the individual saying it would leave families to "fend for themselves". Well, we can hardly do a worse job for ourselves than this bunch of corrupt, deceitful, duplicitous and frankly incompetent Labour politicians have done over the past decade.

  • Well... for a start she privatized the steal and coal industry which is now all made abroad and at inflated prices; car manufacturing, clothing, industrial materials, etc, and you call her a good PM. Major was weak and Clarke's always been a buffoon. Fortunately I was born just after she was out - and from what I'm told, she couldn't care less about middle and lower class people. And lastly, there's nothing wrong with Socialism, at least its fairer and isn't fueled by greed.

  • @jpezzaa Socialism - "fairer and isn't fueled by greed'? You're making some rather dubious assumptions there about a system, based on a small political elite controlling the masses, which the record of history shows has led to the kind of greed and inequality of opportunity that you claim to be against. There are millions of Eastern Europeans that would have a thing or two to say to anyone that claimed socialism was "fair" and free of greed.

  • @jpezzaa On you're point about industry moving abroad, do you seriously believe that this country would have been able to compete with India, China and other developing countries in the field of manufacturing? In the post-war period, our inefficient and overly-unionized industries couldn't even keep up with their competitors in Europe! We were even less productive than Germany, a country that had been ravaged by defeat in war and fascist dictatorship!

  • @jpezzaa This notion that Britain was somehow an industrial power, and Thatcher destroyed it, is a complete myth with absoloutley no basis in economic reality. If you're concerned about inflation, you may wish to take a look at the Labour party's pitiful record on controlling the cost of living before Thatcher took office. Spiraling inflation characterized the British economy under Labour and previous Tory administrations before Thatcher. The privatisation of industries actually saw prices FALL!

  • @jpezzaa And finally - you're point about her "not caring" about the working and middle classes warrants a response. She cared enough about ordinary people to cut their taxes (across the salary scale), give them the opportunity to buy their own council homes, widen share ownership and free them from the restrictive socialist practices that had led to a stalling in social mobility, as opposed to the Labour party who only care about helping people on their own terms - i.e. through the State.

  • @jpezzaa "Mucked up the economy" - how exactly? The Thatcher revolution rescued the British economy from the malaise, inefficiency, debt, excessive largesse and perpetual crisis of the Socialist consensus of the post-war period that brought this country to it's knees.

Major, with his chancellor Clarke, resided over an extended period of growth in the '90s, and handed over an economy with vast growth, low inflation and balanced public finances to the economically illiterate Brown in '97.

  • The three major parties are all pathetic.
