Dave was always a very sad case of reverse racism. Nobody should ever use the N-word, and that includes blacks. He obviously felt otherwise. He also unfortunately believed in his heart that whites would always shaft him, they'd never give him the big money, and they'd never allow a black man to run for (let alone win) the Presidency. but all three things went the opposite way for him and he just couldn't handle it. In short, he went INSANE. R.I.P., Dave's mind.

His crossover appeal to the mainstream audience as a comedian was recognized in the offer made to him by comedy central. However he believed they tried to control his "product" to the point of compromising it. In short he found out where art meets corporate interests & it killed him so to speak. It "broke his heart". He saw where the "game" was headed and just simply walked away. No he didnt go insane!.

If you prefer, you can say it was the drugs - pot, etc., - that debilitated him from functioning to the level required to produce regular public performances. Dope use aside, he had so much money that he could have easily owned his own show somewhere, done tons of further live gigs, and hosted very successful podcasts, all under his full control. It's been years, so he'll never perform again. Recommendation: Suicide watch.

@themredweirdoshow well I guess you're entitled to your opinion. Id defer to the answers from the man himself. He absolutely denies your assertion. Theres lots of interviews he's given since his famous departure. Calling him "insane" or "crazy" is dismissive & incorrectly reduces him & his body of work to some sort of historical refuse. He is doing now what he does best, the stand-up club circuit & bonding again with his grass roots where there is a still a huge fan base for him. I wish him well
