  • I really wish they had services where you are. So many with Autism respond well and are able to move into at least somewhat "normal" lives as a result. We were worried about my nephew until they changed states and schools and he got the help he needed, now he's blossoming.

  • are other children/pets safe around autistic children? I don't know anything about it - could'nt a child with severe autism just act impulsively and unknowingly/meaningly hurt someone?

  • he is beautiful

he will talk when he feels he has to (:

  • hows benton doing now:)?

  • maybe he's telepathic and we just dont know how to receive his signal...

  • Dear Michelle:

I hope that everything gets better with your son.

    He is so cute.

    Just keep the hopes up.

Things can get better, if we believe they will.

    Respect and love.

  • my heart goes out to this kid, stay strong, i know someone autistis but not like this, keep fighting benton:)

If so or not; i was very touched by this video. And i think everybody should take a moment to look at how happy we should be with our lives when i look at this. I deeply respect you for beeing such a loving and caring parent in such a situation.

  • very sad

  • At the end of your vid you said my life isnt normal but how can you tell what is normal?? i have Autism and i also have dyslexic but i am 17 and when i was about 14 i started to think like the adults and started to think more about life then my own world (thats what alot of autism people do they think alot different) i have to at-mite i still do think of my own world and so but my main point is, if you can tell me what is normal i would like to know :D i didnt mean to make it look bad sorry :)

  • this is sweet, brought tears to my eyes.

  • You have a beautiful son there :)

  • My sons an aspie and wanders around like that, lol

  • @emeraldsunsets Can he talk?

  • @67nairb

    Aspies can talk

    Severe autistics can't

  • @emeraldsunsets You have my deepest sympathies.

  • You need to do more research that is not done by organizations like DAN and Generation Rescue. The immune system does not remove toxins or heavy metals, it is the endocrine system. To give you a hint, the primary organ for excreting toxins and wastes is the kidneys and intestines. However, the GFCF diet may help in bowel problems. When I had a stomach virus back in 7th grade, I had to avoid milk as a result. However, not every autistic individual has chronic bowel problems.

  • The only reason why anyone is listening to her is because she is a celebrity and our culture is a cult of celebrity worshippers. The only people who do profit from Jenny's books is her, her publishers, and perhaps some of her colleagues. I am autistic, and there is a good chance that I will have autistic children if I ever have any. It seems to run in my family.

  • Try doing some research by the American Psychology Association. They do have good information regarding autistic individuals since autism is basically a different wiring of the brain than that of a neurotypical brain.

  • It is not a simple 5 minute diagnosis after the child has displayed autistic symptoms. There are numerous tests involved which can take months or even years to make. I was diagnosed when I was 10 or 11.

  • Jenny McCarthy is a publicity whore. There is no kind way to say it. Many parents of autistic children can't stand her for her stupidity, her arrogance, and her childish attitude. On her Opera appearance, she said that her son was diagnosed in only 5 minutes. In reality, it takes years to officially diagnose.

  • You are the arrogant one my dear, my son was diagnosed in 5 minutes as well and is benefitting greatly from anti-yeast treatments and chelation, aspergers is totally different from severe autism. I have a child with aspergers who is 9 and I wouldn't dream of treating him, there is nothing phisically wrong with him- he is just different and thinks differently, he is actually very smart and in gifted and talented classes but my severely autistic son is doing better than ever with these treatments.

  • Your child doesn't simply show autistic symptoms and is diagnosed after only five minutes after the doctor has examined your child. It takes a while due to the numerous tests involved. I had to take an EEP, an MRI, numerous physicals, numerous blood and urine tests, and the list goes on. As I've said, it takes time to diagnose officially.

  • Autism for my son is not a psychiatric disorder. My child is recovering with chelation therapy and anti yeast treatments. You are an aspie that is why you needed many tests to figure out what is wrong with you. As much as you may hate it biomed is working for thousands. My older son has aspergers and we are NOT treating him and it did take a while and many tests to diagnose him. Every childs autism is different, dont speak on what you dont know.

  • God Bless your son. He's beautiful

  • This is a really amazing video.

My mum works with children with autism every day. She helps them in classes and stays near them at break times when they're on their own.

She's told me how hard it is, helping them, I really admire you for raising such an amazing kid =]

  • He is beautiful. My son with autism is now 12. He started speaking words, mostly echolalia around age 9. Like Benton, he makes lots of strange and noises and "squeaks". Raising a child with autism is SOOO much work, but I cherish those precious moments when he looks into my eyes and for a few seconds he is in my world.

  • I heard that this book called "natural cures they don't want you to know about" has something about autism and a cure. I have two sons, one 9 yr old with autism, and an 8 yr. old who was autistic but since changed to cognitive impaired. I would check out this book. I understand absolutely how you feel and I loved your video..

  • He certainly is a beautiful child.

  • hey im doin a project on autism? any suggestions or comments? please it wil be helpful!!!

  • here's something I found out about autism, a friend of mine's brother has it and he cant do math worth a dang but you could show him a picture from a movie and he could draw it with perfect detail, basically the person with autism may lack in certain areas and really surprise you in others.

  • Or lack in all areas, severe autism is not the same as aspergers or savants. I have a son like Michelle's but mine is 5 and his skills or strengths include swimming, being happy and affectionate and being strong. No miracle drawing or math abilities, he has cognitive skills scattered up to that of a 2 yr old and physical up to 3 1/2, so try not to speak for "the person with autism" though when severe thay can't speak or communicate at all and may be self injurious ie biting or head pounding.

  • that's been known to happen too, its just a matter of how its all dealt with.

  • Absolutely love your video! Good on you :)

  • My husband, who goes by the name stepnek, asked me to add a video response for him. He appreciated your replying to his comments and wanted to share with you one of the videos of our son, Jake.

It's always helpful for us to see videos of other autistic children and we hope that other parents of autistic children find comfort in our videos too.

  • Your son is an angel.

  • Thank you very much I sure appreciate that.-MLM

  • I don't want to be critical but I wish that your video didn't have the music track over whatever sounds your son might be making on the live video parts. I appreciate that photos are also part of it but as a parent of an autistic son myself I'm keen to see the experience of other parents but too many videos have a somewhat sappy soundtrack instead of allowing the viewer to get the real audio experience.

That in my opinion would present better the real face of autism, good or bad.

  • Hey thanks for the constructive criticism. I'm pretty new to this movie thing, all I had until recently was a crappy picture phone. I will make more videos and will take what you said into account. Benton really doesn't talk, though he doers make plenty of strange & sometimes loud noises. Thanks for watching- I appreciate the comments!-MLM
