It's not cruel. Again it's only a travel cage to and from the vet. A person that is cruel to their pet would not spend $400 cash to save a birds life. Do you notice the gauze around him? He was going in for treatment.
Meloki is a GORGEOUS bird! Is this a pet store and does he have a larger cage so that he can exercise? My bird sitter has a Moluccan and her bird has a huge cage about 4 times this large. Do you know what changes were made to cause him to start picking his feathers?
The cage was used to transport him to and from the vet. He was only in the cage for about 20 minutes on his way home. Also it was a pretty big cage because if you can imagine a chair in the waiting room at your doctors office, his cage is bigger than the back of the chair and so is Meloki hehe. I'm not the owner but I was told he has a gigantic cage at home and was recently picking his feather. Sometimes birds do that due to stress.
Thank you for responding to my comment. I am so glad that he has an owner that really takes good care of him.
If you can pass the information on to Meloki's owner, Bitter Yuck is good to spray to stop feather plucking. It is for cats and horses also. It contains the herb rosemary. It has really helped my cockatoo Geronimo to stop plucking his leg feathers.

That's truly a beautiful bird, but I hope he doesn't stay in that cage for too long. Birds pick themselves when they are bored or in distress.
