Really been enjoying your videos. :) I think a lot of Ubuntu users are moving to other distros, Xubuntu and Linux Mint in particular I've found, to get away from Unity. It could just be that people have grown so used to Gnome that anything else is uncomfortable, but it's hard to deny that Unity currently is full of bugs and inconsistencies.
I am slow so it took me a long time to figure out that you can load xubuntu onto a hard drive...then remove the hard drive and put it in a low specs machine (256mb or less). But with that small amount of RAM it is difficult or impossible to upgrade to the newer versions of xubuntu...so every 6 months you have to remove the hard drive and do it again.
@libertyforever76 Yeah its a good trick to speed things up. I've done that with doing a full disk backup on old laptops.
For an old computer like that I would have thought its better to stick with the LTS releases and go with something lighter like Lubuntu or Bodhi Linux.
No sense in having brand new software available if the system isn't capable of running most of it.
@mortemdei what choice do we have ? ,,, i don't like untiy and i don't wanna use it ,,, for me it's the best ubuntu out there ,,, i'm trying to try the US in vmware player but it dosen't work ..
@mortemdei GNOME 3 isn't that bad, As far as GNOME goes, I like it.
Unity, on the other hand, I don't like at all. Maybe it just takes some time to get used to? You can replace Unity with GNOME2 in Ubuntu v11.* though.
Either way, I've never really liked the XFCE environment...
Nice review, do you know if there are any touchpad updates being made from ubuntu 10.10?
I am running 10.10 from an Envy 15 and the touchpad is really annoying as it jumps around every where - seems the mouse feature only works properly in windows 7.
@Nitrotail Thanks. Theres been some updates to the Synaptics touchpad. I've got some other touchpad on my MSI netbook and this latest version of Ubuntu has made no difference at all.
which takes less RAM Xubuntu or Linux mint ?

@ElasticGiraffe Im getting on well with Unity, but it required a few workarounds.
Yes a lot of people are moving away from Ubuntu, Im noticing my view count for 11.10 videos is about a quarter of similar 11.04 vids

mortemdei 10 months ago
@mortemdei Xubuntu certainly is a good alternative. lol yeah Gnome 3 sucks. Im still undecided about Unity
quidsup 10 months ago
@quidsup If you consider the gnome3 sucks, Unity is surely worse.

@Destroyer64464 no this distribution, just interface xfe... or like that :D
jarekzkarzewski1 10 months ago
@Destroyer64464 I would go with Lubuntu or Bodhi Linux. Maybe Xubuntu might be ok if your computer has more than 512Mb RAM
