The point is that Tanner was using life expectancy statistics as spin for his argument that requiring ID affects white elderly voters more than minority voters in general. Except there are other factors at play — like higher voter participation among minority elderly — which more than offset life expectancy. He didn't bother to do that research because he wouldn't have wanted to see data that disproves his premise. I'm not calling him a racist; I'm calling him an incompetent political hack.

His point was that minorities are more likely to die before they become elderly, not that elderly minorities are less likely to vote. And the IMPORTANT statistics - life expectancy of minorities vs. whites in Georgia - back him up on that. The %ge of elderly minority that actually vote is completely irrelevant.
