  • an excellent song

  • this song was sung by pagur ban.

  • @ThePython701 .. it is an Irish song you dosey cunt

  • @ChrissBeehh what a dosey cunt.

  • they sent dem off to turkey no choice it was either go to war or be murdered by the brits proud to be irish

  • i dont look at it as being RACIST cos by no means am i racist im irish an proud 2 b just a very heart warmin person an dat song always touched my heart 4 me dad x x x

  • this aint an irish song its about an irish man who chose to fight in the wrong war in the wrong country instead of fightin for his own country

  • the british lost more men than any country !! and the english more than any !! so dont give me this rebel shit more protestant irish died than catholic so think on !! you answered the call at the time of need im respect you !! but dont make it some loyalist nationilist thing !!

  • im english and proud but lets one thing straight they all for the british commomwealth not england and lets all get the real facts war has no winners only dead heroes so no matter what side your on its needless loss of life

  • @twinneth1 AS A TURK !! I AGREE AND HOPE WE NEVER MAKE THE SAME MISTAKES AGAIN RESPECT TO ALL THE LOSSES TAKE CARE.

  • war has turned into a business, a great performance by the boys.

  • the song is like waltzing matilda thats about austrailians who fought and died in the great war, this song is about the Irish who fought and died in the great war

  • if u listen to the lyrics, "you fought for the wrong country,u died for the wrong cause and ur ma often said it was irelands great loss all those fine young man who marched to foreign shores to fight the wars when the greatest war of all was at home"1916 rising is what the lyrics are about there, its mostly an irish song

  • @matchstick181 Anyone who thinks it's not an Irish song is an idiot

  • @Broxbhoy1 seems as you obviously know all about this song can you tell me what its about please

  • @sarahberg39 It was Churchills great idea to land forces on Gallopili, unlike D-Day during WW2 it was a failure, the intellegence was poor and the forces facing the beach were slaughterd and it was an epic failure thousand were cut down and murderd it was a blood bath,a miltary blunder of epic proportions

  • @matchstick181 Churchill and Lord Fisher made terrible mistakes in the planning, supplying and implementation of the Gallipoli campaign. The commanders on the land made poor judgement calls and should have taken the high ground within 48 hours but failed to do so allowing the Turks to command the high ground and with it victory. A terrible loss of life for all concerned.

  • @bobgladstone another bad judgment by the brittish army, look at world war 1,the germans had far fewer casualties during shelling because they had underground bunkers, the brits wudn do that because they thought it would make the troops soft, blown 2 bits over officers opinions

  • @matchstick181 look at the somme to see a failure in the brittish high comaand, montgomry was over market garden in WW2 that was a failure also

  • @matchstick181 Sadlt history continues to throw up the same sad mistakes and poor errors of judgement. Gallipoli was a bloodbath with too many lives on both sides.

  • yes but this song is dedicated to the irish that were gunned down

  • I dare and I also acknowledge you honour the bravery of your dead. My point is the dishonouring of our dead by the sectarianism and hate that is mindless and stupid. Us ANZACs lost ,more per head than any other due to British incompetence. ANZAC Cove Chunuk Bair and other parts of Gallipoli are holy ground to us. As I said above I am Irish and Maori. My Irish tupuna (ancestors) came from Askeaton in County Limerick and Tralee in County Kerry.

  • @ngatimozart Just because "you" lost more people on that day doesn't mean others cannot discuss the subject from their point of view. After all, this song was written from the viewpoint of an Irishman and his family. I say this with no disrespect to you or any of the other men and women who died on that day.

  • @ngatimozart well said! I was in Gallipoli last year and it was such an emotional and special experience. We Kiwis and Australians are still held in high regard by the Turkish people who maintain those graveyards, monuments and beaches with loving care and attention.

  • tiocfaidh ar la

  • brill song and brill vid

  • Some of the comment on here is absurd. The New Zealanders and Australians fought alongside the British and some Irish against the Turks. I am a Scot and many men from the area I come from who were in the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders were killed there. What complete idiot thinks the Anzacs fought alongside the Turks.

  • Ireland was PROMISED homerule if Irish men went 2 fight in the great war.......lies it was a trick

  • At the end of the day, too many people died on all fronts. Who gives a s**t what country they were born/educated/lived in. People died - fact. Waste of human life - fact. Screw the race thing

  • come on guys, this isnt a race thing, its the ruling class of one country, using the working class against another, dragging in more innocents in along the way.the working class of england were no better thought of.win or loose were no better off.

  • although it was a mostly 90% anzac and turk corner of the war over 10.000 british and irish young men were sent to their deaths to far off gallipoli so please read up on your history before you make sh*tty stupid remarks like that you muppet

  • ive got an idea. just enjoy the song keyboard warriors

  • churchills great fukin plan tryin 2 get some greatness, back fired on the fat basterd,Irish men should not of fought in their war tricked into it

  • greattttthh

  • Had they just loaded the boats thr right way around who knows the outcome may have been very different

  • I cant beleive the posts who did who, mate it was a stupid bloody war, waste of a fine generation whether they be Irish, aussie<NZ or Poms, by the way Poms were good bloody fighters, it was their officers who were twits And the comment that 100 thousand kiwis served from 1 million is crap, as it was only 15 thousand, how could a country support 10% of its population in uniform. Many countries made great sacrifices, be proud of who you are and honour the dead for their ultimate sacrifice.

  • @gt2e I am Irish Catholic and Maori. My Irish family emigrated from the Limerick area during the 1850's and 1860's. With regard to Maori you wouldn't know one if you fell over one. You do not know one iota about Maori culture or beliefs nor do you have any understanding of Kiwi, Australian and Polynesian histories, geographies or cultures. You and you ilk are just plain ignorant and cannot see past you own bigotry and hate. Don't insult us with your ignorance.

  • home rule.pearse said no and fight like a real irishman

  • @shanepaulsen. Maybe more Irish died in WW1 than Aussies and Kiwis but per head of population the Kiwis had the highest casualties at 60% with a death rate of 18% of total troops deployed. At Gallipoli the the Kiwi casualty rate was 88%. The deaths were about 35% of troops deployed. In WW1 NZ had 10% of its population deployed as fighting units i.e., 100,000 troops from a total population of 1 million men women and children, more than any other allied country. Just to put things into context.

  • makes me sick when Irish men went to fight for the brits..the greatest war was at home... EASTER 1916.

  • The British including Irish, as this was before to formation of the Irish Free state. Lost 21,255 so their contribution should not be ignored. So it was hardly a Antipodean Turkish action.

  • @MrSilkworm free stater shite. ireland 32 counties

  • do they ever go to states? i see not in 2011 but do they EVER? anyone know?

  • Love these types of songs reply to me for other songs that need to be listened to! cheers!

  • this is especially true of any and all races on this Earth, it is a human condition not an ethnic one, correct me if I'm wrong?!?!

    Are you on Vallium?

  • a beautiful tribute to the men who for the freedom of not only Ireland but for many

  • on my stag nite brill song love this song since i was 10 now 38

  • mick 90 wat a song

  • @Frank12391NL the song is about war. war is gory. so you know.

  • Is that a picture of Luke Kelly at 0:56? Why?

  • Respond to this video...

  • so proud 2 be irish, love this long so much, its a gr8 song 2 play at a house party if u play the guitar and sing, love it, love it love it.

  • I had at least two graet uncles killed and never found in Gallipoli.

In fact Four great uncles fell in the Great War four of my Nans Brothers

  • @angof1 My great grandfather died at Gallipoli and is mentioned on the Helles Memorial RIP

  • God bless sgt Robert Hill from the derbyshire yeomanry he made it home then died from black lungs after digging coal . Homes fit for heros bollocks they got heros fit for homes.

  • I'm crying

  • you will never beat the irish no matter what u do

  • Its not just the Irish and the American Blacks who live in the past. Why is V-E Day still celebrated? that war is over a long time now, forget about that. As for living in the joy of life today, some joy for the people being killed and maimed by the British and American armies still occupying countries they have now right to. Its only by remembering the past atrocities can it be hoped that they are never repeated again

  • this is what it is a song for the fallen be respectful guys . loved this song since i was 12 years old and still do

  • correct me if im wrong, please. first image a gunshot victim, could this be a victim of the IRA? they did shoot people dead right, or not? also why are you showing modern day American soldiers in your video??? i thought Gallipoli happened a long time ago back in 1915 and the yanks were not involved at that point!

i am half irish but i hate all this bickering shit! grow up you dicks!!!!!

  • @jasper12366 half irish means you have distance family member , i was born irish and grew up irish grow up you say, i was grown up taught of how we were suppressed by British rule bickering shit f**k off ya c**t , come back when u learn our culture and history

  • @guurty1990 ive got canadian scots paren ts canadians wernt asked to fight we volunteered,we took places like vimmy ridge ww1 and were amazing troops what fucking recognition do we get and we were first on the beaches at normandy as well long before the brits and yanks ,,now thats supression first memorial for the cannucks went up in the 90s in the uk second this year so what say you and african indain and a lot more colonial troops lost their lives on the somme than the irish get over it

  • Seeing these images to an already poignant song made me cry.

  • This is not a race argument. It is about the folly of the English and the bravery of the ANZAC's and the Turks who faced them. So don't go picking Gallipole for your own selfish race fights. That beach and battlefield is sacred to three nations: Australia, New Zealand and Turkey and none other because it is soaked in the blood of our young men and it is sacred to all our three countries. Don't stain their honour with your shit. By the way I am Irish & Maori.

  • @ngatimozart

just for your own information more irish died in ww1 than aussies and also kiwis.fair enough you have your anzac day but more irish lost their lives than your people and we dont have a national holiday on that particular day like you do because there was another battle at home.no offence by the way... lets have a game of two up some time.the diggers did pay a big price for mother england.

  • @ngatimozart you dont sound too irish or maori for that matter because they are two fine proud races you sound like just another british cunt,ye can have gallipoli who gives a shit,go through history and tell me new zealanders suffered more than the irish hEIREANN GO BRA

  • @ngatimozart how dare you,us as irish have a devotion to the irish that died there!!

  • ur obviously off ur head its about the 3 irish that were ambushed!!

  • @ngatimozart ANZAC,s aint mention in the video...

  • @ngatimozart folly of the english again is it!! why not british?? as for the anzacs the british lost 21,000 killed and 52,000 wounded twice that of the anzacs. just get your facts right before saying gallipoli dosent matter to anyone else. they were all brave including the turks

The majority of protestants in Ulster are descended from scots. England is an island race too! You wanna blame people, learn the lingo, then learn your fucking history!!!!!!!

  • @121Bollox

Don't care about your politics but kept your homosexual fantasies to yourself.

There are plenty of gay sites on the internet for you.

  • @oldersicker - I doubt the fucking capacity of your poxy brain, but look at the gallic races, angles, saxons, normans, romans, norsemen, scandinavians, picts, jutes, iberians, jutes, huscarls, britons, byzantians, vikings, norse, celts, huns, fresians, gauls, and pikes.

DON'T SINGLE OUT ONE RACE... YOU LOOK FUCKING STUPID! I'm anglo-saxon celt, suck my cock!

  • @121Bollox sorry but could not help but notice your comment about singleing out one race, just to let you know, race is a man made concept which does not exist. there is no such thing as race only cultural and religious difference, we are all made up of the same biological structure.

  • @red67888 Beg to differ but we of the Rhesus- group filter down from ATLANTIS , not from the forest canopy.GETITRIGHTUPYE.C'MOAN THE HEARTS

  • I'm Turkish but I have also respect for the British and Anzac soldiers.

  • @gezerbey the bloody british landed our poor australian's on the wrong beach!! why did we go to war for england when we were shipped to our country as convicts

because they didn't have room in England for people who stole hankies!!!!

  • @oldyacht1 Get your own house in order before criticising the Brits. At least our shame is historic, your treatment of aborigines and asylum seekers is down right disgraceful.

  • @wew0nitfivetimes Your shame is not historic, 6 counties in Ireland are still occupied by the crown, Iraq is also occupied as well as Afghanistan. Britain continues to interfere in foreign lands where it is not wanted

  • @32eire32jim

  • Comment removed

  • awsome

  • God rest all the fallen, from where ever they were from.

  • love this song

just a pity small minded biggots think its got something to do with the fight in ireland.

the truth is Ireland just couldnt avoid every war that came along, and im glad some proud and brave men decided to fight along side our allies to ensure freedom for us all. rather than what the splinter republican groups think they r doing. what t ossers

  • Sad song great song great band

  • @IrishandFolkmusic

You seem to forget if it was'nt for England , this island would still be in the the grip of barbarism. Tell you what though, I can't be bothered anymore. You are wrong. I am am wrong. So fucking what. Its in the hands of others so let them work it out. Please.

  • @splendidness666

Oh ye how true, you know that country Japan? you never invaded them...so they are still Barbarians, fancy sorting that out?

  • ahh Dun laoghaire my home town! how i miss you

  • Lots of australians, Irish and new zealanders died here for us. Never let us forget

    Pray for their families

  • EDWIN STARR hit the nail on the head with his classic song WAR!

The line " WAR ! WHAT IS IT GOOD FOR..... ABSOLUTELY NOTHING " sums up most of this debate!

I think too many of you are fans of JETHRO TULL & their song " LIVING IN THE PAST"

    Beautiful songs though.......

Check out the Triple Cd Album POPPIES... The Ultimate Peace Album by a variety of great artists including The Fureys, Billy Bragg, Donavan & loads more!

    Chillax!

  • you fought for the wrong cause

  • more to the point, you people don't know when to give up. you lost the vote in 1920 and you have lost it every time since. by the way i have no problem with your religion, just your political stance. you want 32 counties, we don't. what do you suggest?

  • @splendidness666 The vote in 1920 was a Irish people who had been violated harrased and murdered constantly by black and tans for years . They agreed to anything put in front of them even if it meant siging away their brothers in the North . And BTW the vote only passed by several votes .

  • @1798Greenflag1916

The Black and Tans were all from here. That should tell you something. Not all of us want to be part of your ideal. There is a process of devolution going on. Is that not a good enough compromise?

  • @1798Greenflag1916 perhapes you should get the whole conflict history correct. There was always going to be a problem with the annexing of NI. The problem is the republican minority is 40% which is a very large minority

  • @sechs1983 its always 32 counties wot ever the blood or faith.henry joy mccraken wolfetone emmet our orange, but irish and not orange lodge.32 counties always and forever

  • you take our dole etc. but you still call youself a rebel. whats that about? oh yeah, its when it suits you to to be a freedom fighter. but then you will say its to drain our economy. BOLLOCKS. Parasite

  • up the ira

  • I wouldnt mind but most ppl, dont even have a clue what its all about!!

  • Whether you're a 'follower' of William of Orange or 'the other lot', does it matter now?

The world in those days was a heck of a lot different from that of today.

Live and let live - you're a long time dead..........

  • yep yep!! true xx

  • Most people would prefer to drink the bitter tears of the past, than live in the

    joy of life, today!

This is especially true of the Irish and

    American Blacks.

If injustice is the problem, you'll find a

mountain of it today, if you look around.

The past is cast in stone, but if you want

to change things, it can only to done today.

    Good luck!

  • You forgot Brits, Americans, Jews, well everyone to be honest. You can never forget the past instead learn from it to make a brighter future.

  • @fntime. Talk with people. put on their shoes. take a step along their path. take a minute from your world. spend it in a world of hunger. a world of torture, discrimination, imperialism. Carry the load of a mother who lost her children to tyranny. lift a child from the street, bury her body in the spot that holds her grandmother, her father, uncle and brother who laid down their lives that she may live in peace. pray the mother, wife, sister finds the joy of life you freely breath. xxxxxx

  • Its not about living in the past yes it is cast in stone but your past gives you your character that makes you the person you are today. So we have to remember our past and use it to secure and make a better future so mistakes of the past are never repeated

  • @fntime Blunt,to the point and well delivered but is this the advice from someone who cares?Or an AngloSaxon mongrel type outlook.?

  • @fntime Only by looking to and learning from the past can we alter the future.

  • @IrishandFolkmusic When?....

  • @fntime Nothing is cast in stone..... if you have no respect for the past or try to learn its lessons , it will continue to repeat.... that is the message here. This is also showing respect and honor, futime!

  • @Pisceaneye20 Human greed and its lack of ability to look and understand whats beond his own backyard will be our ultimate downfall!

  • no comment i have read understands what this song means.

  • you fough for the wrong country, you died for the wrong cause, and your ma often said it was irelands great lost, mind u most of them were left over tans from brit occupation. scum of britland not wanted in there own country, let alone ireland.

  • re. barney999111

NO SURRENDER! remember1690 ya taig bastard

  • lmfao william from holland hated u scum who were not wanted in britland, used yee to gain control and has used u ever since to prop up the outposts of empire, slaves of the empire, to be used anyway they feel like it. lmfao. try and get your own lifes, you cant. lol.

  • @splendidness666 go be a bigot somewhere else

  • @SexyBuilder1888

noticed you called me a bigot, not the ones who were saying up the cause. does that make you as big a bigot as me?

if you want bigotry ask the 10% in ireland.

  • @splendidness666

A bigot is a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices.

That is precisely what you are

  • Idiot...Take your bigotry elsewere

  • Why don't you all shut your gobs ...no wonder there is so much war in the world with people like and your hatred.

  • I can't beleive some stupid bugger started talking about ww2, this song has nohting really to do with it, yet it still amazes me how political some people can get, just enjoy the fucking song

  • @boffinup You are right , the song is about ww1. Have a great 2010!!!

  • what a joke . u english bastars were our enemys and have been for 900 years.what do u expect u murdering imperial bastards. u killed over 2 million people in this country. i believe thats called genocide nowadays.this song is about the poor irish kids who had no choice only to go fight for the brits in order to suruive or starve.the ra punished u and now the muslims are taking their revenge. fuck the queen fuck maggie thatcher and fuck tony blair the lying little poodle

  • suaprising how there was a peace process as soon as the ira devolped the abillity to put bombs in england that caused 1 billion pound damage a go.hhaha yes we accept the british surrender.tiocfaidh ar la

  • It'll be a could day in hell if theres ever a united Ireland! And you sound like some1 from hamas with a comment like that you terroist loving bastard! And as for British surrender do a bit of research even back when people here were throwing spears at each other Ulster fought against the united tribes of the south and kicked ur ass's and remained Ulster and we will continue to fight NO SURRENDER to the terrorist scum FUCK THE TERRORIST IRA/HAMAS/AL QAEDA SCUM AND YOUR BLACK PROPAGANDA

  • up the ra ,, u un educated scum of the earth
