Yes, Huey was on drugs but it doesn't take away from the serious issues he raised and the state of Black America still to this day, Blacks make up the most population in Prisions. Not just because they committed a crime but for the reasons that they can't afford proper representation and don't have jury of their peers. To say the least!!!!!!!

I noticed that people only listen to u if u have women, money or a following of ignorance. People need to wake the fuck up and have their own ideals. I like this video, this is what needs to be shown on MTV & BET
Spike Lee is a genius in all his films because he panders to the audience on the surface yet the truth is always just under the surface. In this case, the Newton character gives lip service to all the marxist 60's rhetoric and the audience responds positively as expected but Newton says all of this with a herion addict's shakes and rambles like a distrurbed drug addict. To me this is the icon of the 1960's radical. Cool and hip yet flawed, disturbed and unsavory at the same time.
I don't like his portrayal of X or Huey personally. For instance in this clip he he is made to look like some sort of camp eccentric. If you read his book however or watch the actual clip(s) of him speaking you get a grasp that he was a completely rational earthy man.
That said, anyone who is bringing more publicity or attention to these great people of history is probably doing a good thing.
The truth of this "great" person is more complicated. He was an abusive thug who, in the words of another abusive thug, George Jackson, made "Marxism his hustle" and hustled many people.
isaw this live at ohio state university...smith is an acting giant in his own right...very moving; and very accurate..what was wrong with huey?...apartheid.
Huey P. Newton was a revolutionary. The government won't allow the black panther even be mentioned in the history books because of their ideas and actions. J.Edgar Hoover stated that they were a threat to national security.
It is ironic that our country sent men to Viet Nam to fight Communism, yet Communists were in government at all levels especially in the 70's. Today we have a Fascist as a President and Pelosi androgyne types all throughout government.
He is a parrot. He is useful idiot of the Soviets.
This was made in 2001 and was directed by Spike Lee. This play blew me away. Huey was killed during a drug transaction. But he is and will forever be one of my heros.
Sense this is Roger Guenveur Smith portrayin Huey P. Newton, no one can deny the fact that his performance was Oscar worthy. I mentioned the Oscars cuz when one analyzes the the numba of whites who get Oscars as oppose to blacks, how uneven is it? Well, it's obvious that Roger deserved one, & how many countless othas have been robbed of what was due them? The times they decide to credit us with an Oscar is when we play a crooked cop (Tranin Day) or get whipped (Glory). How free are we?
I saw this one man show before Spike Lee filmed it. Roger Guenveur Smith was incredible. All I can say, the Huey P. Newton Story was intense. I knew I had witnessed a great performance and play. By the way, Roger also wrote the play.
the huey one man play was a terrible portrayal of huey p. newton.huey was not an erratic lunatic and this dude is unfit to portray huey.kullmack mackull of the new black panther party for self defense and enlightenment.
Yaknow what the sad thing is? I know so many "thugged" out black people who don't even know who the hell Huey P. is!? Where the hell has education gone these days? Oh yea! "No Child Left Behdind" AKA let's make all the kids dumber and give them good grades for it.
Ill tell you where it went dude. Schools dosent educate us about revolutionaries who could speak good and who was so very anti governmental(especialy when that government is the USA one..by very anti governmental i know what a revolutionary means but i mean as ''radical'' as they would liek huey t look like, because he was right about many things they an bring him up fora t least a couple of decades. Alot of what BPP wanted made alot of sense.
Thanks for posting this. I saw the video of the actor doing the Huey P. Newton monologue before and I wished I could purchase it.Huey was before my time, but he was before his time too
Because I whole heartedly accept you as mine.I believe that the only way a revolution could ever work is if PEOPLE,not black people or white people, but PEOPLE who have one singular thing in common stand up and tell the rich ghosts on the hill that we are sick of the system that they have built, and that the time to answer for their crimes has come. And when these evil men are "taken care of" I would hope that PEOPLE will sing hand in hand and realize that we dont have to hate eatchother, just them
I would like to pose a question to any socially concious black man or woman who would respond.I am a white man who has seen the worst in people, black or white, and I have come to understand many things about black oppression to which mainstream white america turns a blind eye.I dont claim to understand black culture, because, for the most part,I dont. But I feel it.Iv'e wept for black struggle.I consider myself a brother in arms. But to you sir or madam,I ask:Do YOU accept ME as a brother?
YES!!!! Any socially conscious black person (such as myself) would answer that with a big YES!! We must not discount our white brothers and sisters who helped in the struggle even back then.....the movement was about socially conscious PEOPLE working together not necessarily ONLY black people....but there were many whites who were very active in the movement and that is a fact that should never be covered up hidden or not acknowledged
The only people who believe that this intelligent and very missed man was nothing more then a "parasite" is lacking in any social progressive thought.
pls dont reply to "boils2" he has been leaving comments like that on this very video for months and months. I too was angry when I saw his comments months back, but then I thought to myself boils2 must have a very pathetic life.
I`m with you (Huey was the man) and anytime you get people like him. Others will always keep talking bad things about them... just like they still talk bad things about Malcom X
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Huey was a parasite and he is blessedly dead. He is not missed. What he be is a legend in the mind of affirmative action ebonics speaking baboons. So be it.
Huey was a great man. He did a lot for our community and he was also for the oppresed white people. No matter what, you can not tell me that a man who wants to feed children and protect his community is bad.
Nice! Is that Roger Guenveur Smith who played in Panther? He played as the force to bring the Panthers down, and now plays as Huey. How ironic, huh? Great actor.

I noticed that people only listen to u if u have women, money or a following of ignorance. People need to wake the fuck up and have their own ideals. I like this video, this is what needs to be shown on MTV & BET

It's an actor who is mocking the great Huey P. Newton, an actor who can only pretend to have the mental altitude that Huey Newton possessed.

RobGoth100 2 years ago
I don't like his portrayal of X or Huey personally. For instance in this clip he he is made to look like some sort of camp eccentric. If you read his book however or watch the actual clip(s) of him speaking you get a grasp that he was a completely rational earthy man.
That said, anyone who is bringing more publicity or attention to these great people of history is probably doing a good thing.
goodvibrations01 2 years ago
The truth of this "great" person is more complicated. He was an abusive thug who, in the words of another abusive thug, George Jackson, made "Marxism his hustle" and hustled many people.
RobGoth100 2 years ago
That's open to opinion and unless you knew the man you don't know nothing.
Flawed or not he was a saint compared to the scum he was working against.

Huey P. Newton was a revolutionary. The government won't allow the black panther even be mentioned in the history books because of their ideas and actions. J.Edgar Hoover stated that they were a threat to national security.
cali115 2 years ago

Yaknow what the sad thing is? I know so many "thugged" out black people who don't even know who the hell Huey P. is!? Where the hell has education gone these days? Oh yea! "No Child Left Behdind" AKA let's make all the kids dumber and give them good grades for it.
demboys18 3 years ago 16
Ill tell you where it went dude. Schools dosent educate us about revolutionaries who could speak good and who was so very anti governmental(especialy when that government is the USA one..by very anti governmental i know what a revolutionary means but i mean as ''radical'' as they would liek huey t look like, because he was right about many things they an bring him up fora t least a couple of decades. Alot of what BPP wanted made alot of sense.

HadoukenJojo 3 years ago 3
