I'm almost through induction...2 days left. Had a dream I ate some kind of rich desert and was so happy when I woke to discover I had only dreamed that I messed up! Funny huh!
@Godislove4663 I am convinced our brains are convinced that sugar is like heroin or other drugs the way it longs for it consciously and in our subconscious. Congrats on making it through what I thought was the roughest piece of the Atkins Diet.
lol Needed this video...I dreamed I ate a cookie and woke up pissed off. I don't even like cookies like that. lol This is prime reason I know I'll succeed because my goal remains at the forefront of my mind.
@writeserengeti13 I know I had the crazy carb dreams from time to time. For me it was more often eating pizza and then realizing I was on the diet. You wake up and then have to worry did I actually screw up or not. The brain jonesing for past addictions is certainly a powerful thing.
@narutoedv33 If you are hungry, eat. Just choose wisely and according to whatever diet you follow. If Atkins, choose something high fat like cheese (mock danish for instance) and typically the feelings of deprivation and of course hunger will go away.
@narutoedv33 No if it contains the stuff you described, you can't eat it for the reasons described above if following a low carb plan. Together or separate doesn't matter.
Your amazing thank you for doing this I have lost 80lbs but now I'm struggling a little with staying on as strict as I was. I want to lose atleast 30 more lbs so this post helped me a lot. @mamasuify I needed that reminder on why I wanted to lose weight when temptation came calling. It gave me the concrete this or that -- which do I want more. Thanks for watching!
It's the same reason I expected A's for my and A's and B's for my kids' report cards. Or the same reason I expect to pass every certification exam I take? If you don't expect that level of performance (that you know you are capable of performing), how are you going to obtain it? Should I have been less motivated to give my kids the dad they deserve or a dad that would live past 45?
For others, how they perform whether in school, on exams, or in weight loss is a personal matter for them.
Think of it this way... The town where I work has a gymnastic star named Shawn Johnson, and the place where I lift has a couple degree black belts who teach TaeKwonDo. Do these people have animosity towards others for their inability to do things that Shawn or black belt can do? Likely not.
Those are extreme examples but demonstrates my point. We each are called to do what we can with what we have been given. I will never run a 2:45 marathon, but I will continue to drive to beat 4:00.
i have a dilemma. so im on day 2 of induction and im plannig on looking fit in a two piece for my friends party. she is having people stay in a hotel in the poconos for the weekend and this will be during my induction. i asked her what kind of food she will b serving.... its all going to b carbs.... what do i do?!
I hear you about those difficult situations. Here's what I would do. I would take my food with me -- like beef sticks or pepperoni, cheese, pre-made salads, etc. If she won't have acceptable foods, that's all that's left.
Say you were a vegetarian or Jewish and had those dietary restrictions, you would be forced to do the same thing. Induction is only temporary, but it also starts you on the right foot. These situations always arise, and we just need to rise to challenge.
Hey Kent another great video. I try to watch one of your videos a day kinda like a diet check in...it keeps me on track. Day 7 on induction I was feeling a little tempted today so I thought this video would help! It did. TY Rebecca
hey man you should promote CKD rather than atkins. Cyclical Ketogenic Diet, it's where one would have a "carb- up " phase once a week or once every 2 weeks which would allow a refeed for the muscles.. which basically allows you to keep your muscles while you drop your bodyfat. muscles are key when it comes to your metabolism, which keeps you thin ! most lose alot of muscles on atkins.. , and with CKD you dont get cravings because your "carb-up" days allow you to eat the foods you love ^__^ !
There is no reason to lose any muscle on Atkins. You are eating a moderate protein diet which should be enough to promote muscle repair and fueling your workouts with the fat in your diet to prevent cannibalization. It should actually be protective of muscle tissues.
I prefer to do a single diet or way of eating that is more likely to be able to be done long term. For me, the carb up days would last longer if I constantly reawoke sugar cravings. Now the foods I love are Atkins legal!
Depends on the length time you eat high carb. If it's one meal or a even a day, you probably would be ok with weight. You might reawaken cravings. Longer than that you risk adding a lot of extra weight back on.
Hi, Stallone's Book on Diet is one great Book. I just don't think you would like to read what Stallone says about protein. Stallone recommends maximum 30% from protein. I don't know how much Atkin's recommend. Stallone probably tried high protein / low carb and high carb / low protein.
I only read a few pages, because I were reading this at the bookstore. He is one great guy. Stallone rocks.
You might want to check out my "Atkins Diet: high protein or high fat diet" video, and you might be surprised at what Atkins and my stance on protein is. 30% ratio is in line with where Atkins states one should be at during Induction.
For me, it depends on the body needs. If you are exercising more and muscle need repair, your ratio should be a bit higher than someone who does not. Still the ratios are roughly correct -65% Fat,30% Protein, 5% Carbs for Induction with Carbs increasing later.
IF you are talking about actual physical boot camps, then no not that I know of.
AtkinsDietBulletinBoard forums did have a number of Atkins Boot Camps which had the recruits in an focused environment. Other websites might also be doing the same thing from time to time. I was a drill sergeant at these boot camps for number of camps and found it a great experience.
When I lost 85 pounds on Atkins, I wound up with a boyfriend. Well, his apartment had no stove, so all I ate was Chinese food, cereal and chocolate Entenmann's cake. When we broke up, I went on vacation with my folks, only to wind up cheating at restaurants. It was so depressing the first time I realized my pants were getting too tight again. I'm back on it now, after 4 years off being off.
I gained back the 85, plus 50. But, any diet I go on, if I quit it, I'll gain weight back plus more. I'd rather be on this than diet pills. If I do this diet correctly, by the time I'm done, I'll make positive lifestyle changes. Things like diet pills and Slimfast would not do that for me. I've lost 25 pounds in the past month.
Well, your body is different than mine. I lose weight faster because I have more weight on me to begin with. It might take longer than a month for you, but it'll work. You have to buy the book and follow it though. You can't just follow bowulf and be successful.
If you only need to lose 20 pounds, you shouldn't stay on induction for any longer than the two weeks. After that, you need to go on to phase two and phase three.
love when im in ketosis,it take about 20 carbs a day and 3-4 days for me to get there...i feel super when im in ketosis and the inches i've lost are amazing!!!i love this diet feel great and eat plenty.i weighed 220lb.now i weigh 150 and i feel great!!!
It's the worst when you go out with friends who want to eat like pigs and go to McDonalds at 2 in the morning... it messes up your whole diet... and that's only a few of the problems.
AT 195 17% FAT IF CALORIES ARE REDUCED WITH A HIGHT FAT, PROTEIN, 20G MAX CARB ...... IS THIS BETTER FOR WT LOSS?? BEEN ON INDUCTION NO MUCH CHANGE IN Wt. BEEN 2 WEEKS
Typical ratio during Induction are approx 65%Fat, 30%Protein, 5%Carbs. If you are still having problems losing, I would up my Fat % to 75-80% and reduce the protein percentage. The point is to jumpstart the weight loss not longterm losses with this plan.
Question : I am thinking that there must me a stage when we start gaining weight by gorging on fats. However if we do get fatter by eating very low carb and say 5000 cals from protien & fat, then it mean its not unlimited fats ...... or is it
It is unlimited in the sense that you can eat until you are satiated. There is no set you can only eat 4 oz of red meat per day that other diets feature. Some days that will be more than others -- I have eaten very large steaks on this diet (>16oz), but is the old 96'er (from the Great Outdoors fame) advisable to eat every day? No.
I was requesting you comments on the Ketogenic diet..i also see a extreamly high fat diet also similar to the atkins in the EFGT (eat fat get thin)..........thanks again this is all very interesting
Common sense says you should probably be satiated or at very least full well before that. Can one overindulge on meat on this diet? Yes by not listening to their body. Eating when you are not hungry is not advisable on this or any diet.
Thanks for such quick reply......................any comments on the KETOGENIC DIET (origin for epileptic patients) encourage low calories to prevent weight gain however high fat percentage even up to 90% in cases...........thanks
Atkins Diet is a ketogenic diet -- approx. 65-70% of ones Calories should come from fat. I don't know the details of the EFGT diet, so I can't comment on it. Eating fat does not make one fat or gain weight. Eating past being satiated does. There is also an appetite supression effect that also indeed helps on this high fat diet.
My only thoughts of up to 90% fat intake is that one's protein intake may be too low at that point. There is only one macronutrient the body can't make, protein, so if it needs it to live or rebuild after exercise it has to rob it from existing muscles and tissues.
PROTIEIN - any idea on atkins the average protiein intake per meal before conversion to glucose takes place and is it {important / if so how} to calculate the daily protein intake requirements?.......thanks
It depends on your activity/exercise level. An active person (cardio/lifting weights) might need between 1.2-1.6g per kg of lean body weight. This number is not hard scientific number and is up to much discussion. (I don't know of any studies that detail how much protein per minute of exercise recovery) I find the estimate a good rule however and generally works out to be 150g per day for me @ 190# LBM.
You are very welcome. I am glad the videos are helping you. It is true about the less you put yourself in stressful situations the less likely you are to do something you'll regret later.
Wow! What a wonderful, motivating video. I made a list while I was watching of things that being thin means to me. I'm also going to make a sign somewhere I can see it that says "failure to plan is planning to fail" So I'm always sure to have a low-carb snack ready for when I'm really hungry. I'm making your low-carb cheesecake today - without crust. Can't wait! Thank you, thank you!

potatos , eggs , sausage, majonase, pickles. carots

pickles - depends if sweet (loads of sugar) or dill (no sugar)
carrots - starchy and acceptable on OWL
Sausage - depends if it has sugar in it
