I had this game in deep childhood. And I never liked it because the movement are awkward, enemies are stupid, but you're dead if there're more than two on the screen. And I had some really great games at the moment, so GA2 was something was released I had no idea why. But the music is great.

god i really (x1000) love the music for the first stage. You can really feel the emotion pouring out as the hero rushes in to save the village.

I loved both golden axe 1 and 2, but somehow you really could feel the seriousness and beauty evoked in 2 more than 1. Don't get me wrong, 1 was an awesome awesome game!

Gilius is weaker in part two which is a damn shame. In part one, he was EASILY the best. for 4 pots he did more damage than the other characters with 4 pots. Tyris only does more damage after getting 6 pots, so pound4pound gilius had the best magic. Also, he obviously was the best fighter with the best reach, and also the fact that his second combo slash hits twice (listen carefully) so he does the most damage

In part two, he lost the double-hitting slash. and all the chars are equal imo

Man, am I the only person in the world that considers Golden Axe II better than the original? The only downside is that~, maybe, the soundtrack is a little inferior to the first one, but besides that, better gameplay, graphics and more levels (I think). I mean, come on.

Don't get me wrong, I love the first one, it has a charm that the second one will never have, but I still consider the sequel better than the original...

To be honest, you are not. I like the second one more too. Soundtrack a little inferior? Maybe because the music was specifically developed for the console (whereas the first was inspired from the arcade), but no, I strongly disagree.

I thought the music in Golden Axe II was outstanding (the intro, all stages, score chart and all were very well composed and memorable).

And the gameplay is great too. There are more varieties of enemies, and they are smarter and more reactive/reactionary (though they are still quite stupid as you can see in my video) compared to the first.

Yes, I agree the sequel exceeded the first in almost every aspect. I am proud to have the import copy of this game (the text is also in English) in my collection.

Don't mention it ;) I didn't say that Golden Axe II's soundtrack was bad, I just said that is possible that Golden Axe I had a better OST. I mean, the boss themes in II just suck compared to I's boss themes...

Same here. The wizards are a nice idea somewhat, ONLY when they appear in battle and ride beasts and use their wands and blast lightning bolts at you to tell you they have the magic potions you want but they are evil and you have to fight them for those which is pretty cool, BUT in the bonus stages after every round when they walk SLOWLY and AIMLESSLY around WITHOUT DOING ANYTHING ELSE (not even using ANY of their attack moves)

obviously waiting for you to beat them and milk their magic potions and bread loafs and get it done with I feel it's really stupid. For those bonus stages they should reintroduce the elves who at least look mischievous, cheeky, fast movers and scampers when their bags are empty which would make more sense.

Alternating their presence with the wizards in battle is also a good idea.

I dont think I ever played this one, I just remember the 1st one, musics a lot better on this one, Im gunna have to buy a sega off ebay just to play all these games again, golden axe , streets of rage, street fighter, mortal kombat. I even want to play sonic again :)

This game was the best sega game ever, i thought the first one wasnt going to be surpassed, but this one sure did the trick, i was kinda dissapointed with the unexcitement of the last boss, but other then that is was the best game ive played for sega ever^^ (I love the music too:p)

This, was second next to Revenge as the best of the series. I remember Revenge, playing the hell outta that in the summer of 1993. I evenutlly got to the point where I could get to the end boss on a single quarter. And those stages where you got the bone dragon, I was able to keep him the entire time. Not an easy feat considering you get hit 3 times and he runs off.

As for this game, I was always confused by the scoring system. Never did understand it a whole lot. o_O

Once again the stupidity of hard mode AI has been exposed! I wonder what the programmers of the game's engine have to say about this. All the stuff I tried to do to unsuccessfully maintain distance from the enemies you made it look easy! I'll just stick to my Genpei Toumaden 2 run.
