  • Martina send me here!

  • Reminds me of Penguin Cafe Orchestra. Great stuff!

  • Much of the music I enjoy was introduced to me through dance. Elisa Monte choreographed a magnificent piece to this. I saw it performed in duet by the Alvin Ailey Dance Company. The piece was superb as well as the music.

  • @Einhander49 you're missing the purpose of the piece. the very nature of what you call "repetitive and boring" helps to create a mental state of being in the listener that they can become entranced in.

p.s. why are you so angry about it anyway?

  • @Einhander49 i used to say the exact same thing, i'd even argue with my band leader, saying that it was simple to the point of banality.

i listened to this song high once, and what had seemed to be simple and lame was actually highly complex, and almost "living". yes, each measure and its neighbors sound very much alike. but zoom out and listen to the birth and death and transitions of ostinatos throughout the song that you can bob your head to. that's how it makes sense to me...

  • @Einhander49 - A sun reader I presume?

  • This is a true masterpiece. Amazing.

  • I always assumed those strings wre synthesized for some reason

  • SWAG.

  • Wonderful. Can't you get it properly converted to audio from your video recording and then upload it as one piece, as one video, on Youtube? The conversion glitches and splitting detract from the beauty of the piece. Perhaps someone else can do this for you if you are not able to do it yourself. Isn't the complete video available on websites in Japan?

  • . . . that's nothing. . . we did this with 17.5 musicians. . . hee hee

  • I wonder if KWSO would consider this? Petition? Wouldn't it be cool to have a full orchestra timpanis and all sorts of exotic drums but from all over the world have the budget for the finest equipment and players /// this I don't know

I have a sense that if you try is in an improv sort of situation it would not work...it's a total precision piece. For other use, yeah, go for it. exquisite

  • i love how the instruments are arranged

  • "I remember when I first heard this piece back around 1980. I thought it was Philip Glass but soon realized there was something different about it from Glass. The first copy I bought was on ECM records and it still sounds like something new and different 30 years later." -Sparky's Dad

  • @sparkybonehead I plan on purchasing the ECM edition for my birthday.

  • @thawtz I plan on doing the exact same thing. I'm in Baltimore and I'll be taking a trip to Albany to hear this performed live. My 2 hrs. of my 6 hour drive will consist of at least 2 different renditions of this entire piece.

  • Everything builds on itself... the repetition becomes dull but then finds life behind the next new sound regaining its importance.... I really love its simplicity... I feel like I'm listening to my childhood and the sound of development of personality

  • This is what happens when you decide not to create wars. You create music, no?

  • EPIC.

  • So this is Math Rock's foundation?

  • 3:43 best part

  • the world's worst and best piece......

  • yo this needs some phat beats

  • This music sounds so fresh and new, I really love it a lot.

    GREAT STUFF

  • Love the switches of keys starting 2:03

  • Best recording of 'Music..' is the one released by Hungaroton in 2004.

  • @pigeonkill That´s by Amadinda Percussion Ensemble, agree with you. But try to find the Grand Valley University version in CD.

  • I love this shit!

  • yeah

  • Where is first Pulse section and Section I? Can't find :(

  • The performance of section 1 had already started when I turned on the switch of TV.

  • lol... love it when that happens... :-D

  • bummer. its still great to have the rest up though. thanks

  • I prefer this properly scored music to the 'choose a theme and play it until you get sick of it' idea behind some of Terry Riley's music.

I like the idea but this has a much more passionate sounding end product.

  • @Underhill182 I haven't explored much of Riley, but I do think "In C", in its greatest performances, is a solid work. However, I own almost all of Reich's Nonesuch recordings and only 2 or 3 Riley, so I guess you can tell where my sympathies lie :)

  • you all should check out the ECM recording, by steve reich and musicians.. best recording out there i think

  • Most definitely it is. Although this live performance is darn good - and it should be, with Reich on piano.

  • So pretty!

  • omfG !

  • How the hell did I not here about this before ^^ This is pure genius!

  • the composer himself on piano

  • I would love to see this performed live so much.

  • thanks for sharing

  • this is amazing, finally found something worth listening too

you can see where great composers such as Thomas Newman get their influence from

  • thomas newman is amazing - he is SO influenced by Reich. Amazing.

  • Grande emozione.

  • this music is amazing.

  • sempre meraviglioso.

  • It's so coooool!

  • good movie!

  • cool

  • still think it really comes alive in section III
