We're planning to set for a back-packing trip to the carpathian mountains with my friends, starting from our land, Greece. Are there any camping spots or anything like that? Which is the best season for trekking up there?

July - October, depending where you want to go, anyway be prepared for surprises and well equipped. Follow the marked paths and don't disturb the wild animals which habit there, especially the bears. Camping spots are near mountain cabins, marked on the maps. If you don't now the route ask for a local guide. The landscape will take your breath away!

In fact, my problem is that I cannot find a local guide. I'm searching for organized camping spots and easy transportation. Any EU programs maybe? Do you know anything? Thank you very much!

I could give you some advices but where exactly you want to go? You can visit Piatra Craiului, Retezat, Apuseni, Bucegi, Ciucas, Ceahlau, Parang and many other beautiful mountains in Romania. Some of them are more accessible than others. The main attraction is Bucegi but very populated.

EU program are used more for the Black Sea side, attracts more money...no programs for this "segment" yet :(.

I don't know about those mountains, I can't find any information about their differences. Which do you reccomend?

It is very hard to find information becouse is not not for mass turism. It is very wild and ussualy the only human you can find in the remote areas are shepards. If you speak blaxoi ( vlach) dialect you can understand with them becouse they do not really speak english. Watch out for bears and wolves. Every years there are problems especially with bears. Do not eat and camp in the same place , and do not let your food near to you.

It will be good, only for money, if the tourism will improve. I am half agree with this idea too.

In România we have Great Places to find and to Visit!

Yes, they do - they are called Jepii Mici and Jepii Mari. These are the Bucegi mountains in Busteni Romania.
