Were only two albums, but fuck!, how good they were playing music together. I try not thinking if there is a Progressive Metal band better than another, I simply enjoy them. Please don't criticize (and compare everytime) all bands out there, even better, suggest bands for listening, no matter the style or music orientation, while they play Prog-Rock or Progressive Metal, I always give the welcome.

@francheski thak you, will check Mother and Sin. Recently I've been digging Corde Oblique, a very different musical world (Italian folk and athmosperic stuff with mostly female vocals), but the passion and musicality is there too.

Everyone who views this at least has enough music insight to view it and have some interest whether they like it or not I give them prop's because this is true talent and true talent is viewed very little so being interested shows a quest for good taste and the world can always use some of that.

I found out about this band because i'm into Kamelot, then i found out about Kamelot's singer being in Conception before Kamelot, and Otsby was the guitar player for Conception before starting Ark. Long story short, those bands lead me to this and it's some great progressive stuff.

Ark is better than DT

Say what you want but my biggest argument is that Ark only has 2 albums and I still listen to them...Both are more than 8 years old so it´s alot of years hearing the same songs and not getting sick of them or bored with the sound... DT can´t achieve this type of perfection because they are obssessed with "evolving" they´re sound...They should have maked more albums like Train Of Thought or Awake...

Jorn Lande (Ark, Beyond Twilight, Beyond Fear...) have better voice sound than James LaBrie (Dream Theater), but LaBrie have better drummer - Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater, Liquid Tension Experiment)

Beyond Fear is one of Ripper Owens' bands, and has no relation whatsoever to Lande or anyone else in Ark.

Also, I feel I should point out that using the sound of a coin dropping onto a countertop (5:47) is quite possibly the coolest and most creative transition ever.

Actually i can agree with you about the level of James compared with Jorn, but if we going back to 1993, the voice of James could sound incredible and unique

It's a bad thing the vocal accident suffered by James in the past and i think that in the present, the history would be very diferent

mike portnoy is not such a good drummer (no dynamics). Of course he is pro but there are SO freeking many other drummers better than him technically ! Mike is overrated and well advertised !

Mike Portnoy is technically far from the best drummer, but leaving his enormous creativity out of the picture as well as his skills on producing etc. is doing him short.

The 'best drummer' or 'best band' discussions are so annoying anyway.

That said, I also think Burn the Sun is the best progalbum ever, I have listened countless times to these songs. But I can listen to most of DT and Ayreon music forever as well.

I used to think of Dream Theater as an infallible band not capable of being surpassed. I'm finding more and more bands that are capable of what they do and more. This is one of those bands, it's a shame that they are no longer together.
