Wow women want pay for caregiving.Thats the job thats associated with their Holy Motherhood.Well does that mean if the do a inadequate job they should be replaced by a better worker .lol
As usual all her life, Gloria Steinem shows herself to be a misandrist windbag. Caregiving? Is this what she thinks will generate wealth for America after she campaigned for decades to destroy or outsource all the manufacturing jobs that middle class men had? A society made up of only the ultra-rich and ultra-poor, with no middle class, is what she wants, and such societies are very, very violent places. An example is our southern neighbor, Mexico.
Why don't we drop the term feminism for a more fitting term like gender equality, isn't that what it's all supposed to be about? Or is feminism still in favor of the idea that all inequalities between the genders is due to men? You know cause male genitalia mutilation is common practice in todays society (circumcision), Domestic violence against men is nearly as common against men as it is against women, and women are sentenced to 40% less jail time than men for equivalent crimes, drafting.
@JesusManson323 no, feminism is about a historical roles, hierarchic societies and the history of women abuse. It's also about a fair wage, for all women, not just north American women... you seriously need to read the history to get some perspective on where their rage comes from.
Gloria Steinem and her ilk promoted a fake "girl crisis" in the 90s (a time when women represented 55% of college attendance) just to get all educational resources dedicated to girls education and away from those "privileged" boys.
Read Christina Hoff Sommers book "Who Stole Feminism" to see how hateful and misandric feminists are now (especially considering they are running out of things to whine about).
Feminism is a lobby group for the interests of white, middle class women who want to work inside air conditioned offices, while men continue doing all the hardest jobs around them.
Feminists use the statistics of poverty for poor women and women of color, then apply the lion's share of benefits to white middle class women.
Look up the fact that the greatest beneficiaries of Affirmative Action have been white women.
Don't worry, women as it is are aborting and killing their own babies. Women see men as disposable and fathers as optional sperm donors. So why worry about a future? We have plenty of women killing the future in the present.
We have learned one thing over the last 40 years: give a women an office job and she will make your population vanish.
Why don't feminists complain that males are 93% of workplace fatalities? Why aren't feminists complaining about the under representation of females here? Why aren't feminists fighting for equal outcomes on these jobs? Where are the feminists complaining that females don't have to sign up for the selective service? Males have to sign up for the selective service or face a 250000 dollar fine? Where is their notion of equality when it comes to making sacrifices?
@johnman1911 Feminists assume that all men are more or less equal with each other. But I can point to millions of working class men (esp. of color men) who toil away for shit wages, with no healthcare, no pension, and plenty more marginalization than a white, middle class feminist will ever experience.
Feminists are extremely comfortable with the "rigid gender roles" of men doing the hardest, most dangerous, and most necessary jobs to keep society running.
@SystemEquation I know bro. What gets me is how women love hearing these feminist messages and don't really care about men. Even married women and what not. Sure some women do actually see men as people. But so many women just love to make men the enemy they have to overcome. As a man you can spit mad truth about the state of the world today and women don't want to hear it. It is sad bro it is sad.
@SystemEquation But you see, feminists can't afford to speak about internal male inequalities. If they did, there goes their agenda where they assume that only women can experience economic inequality. They have to pretend that poor and exploited men do not exist. So it begs the question: WHICH men do feminists want equality with? Just the prosperous white men? Does Gloria Steinem want to be equal with a BLACK man? A working class man? yeah right!
@TruthandJustice101 Yeah Bro. They take the top 1% of men and say they want what these men have, but they are not willing to give up the things that top 1% of men had to give up in order to get there. 99% of war dead are men. 93% of workplace fatalities are men. 80% of the homeless are men. Men are 10 times more likely to commit suicide after divorce than women. Men are more likely to be injured at work than women. Men are more likely to be victims of violence.
@johnman1911 none of these statistics are women's fault. So what does this got to do with feminism? Those are male issues, not female issues... I think you're just mad that men don't have their own movement! Both sides have their statistics, and the sexes turning on each other is not the solution. Don' be so naive, you're falling into the trap of separate and conquer. The people who want you to be mad at women are the people who are behind all your grievances, male and female.
@bragladish Feminism is built on the idea that women are oppressed and feminists fight for equality. Women are no more oppressed than men are. Feminists are not out for equality they are out for anything that pushes women forward in society even if they unfairly subjugate men in the process. So by pushing women's issues foreword while demonizing men they have helped bring those statistics into being. They have over shadowed human rights with women's rights.
@johnman1911 you just lack empathy for women, and you are focusing on them instead of creating your own masinist movement. Women will not stand for the inequalities of society and that doesn't make them bad, it makes them brave! Just because you are willing to put up with things they are not willing to put up with isn't their problem, it's your problem. Your whole identity, as a man, is the problem, not the women who want more for themselves. You should want more for yourself.
@bragladish I don't lack empathy for women at all. I feel bad for women that feminism is giving them some bs to make them think they deserve more from society than they do. I think this undermines women by giving them false expectations of what real life actually is. The women who actually can be competitive with men in the world are made to look bad by women who expect special treatment for being women and then turn around and say they have it harder than men.
@johnman1911 I feel sorry for sucky babies like yourself who have a hard time imagining more for yourself and blame women who wont accept what your willing to accept. You want women to live with what you are willing to live with without, for one second, seeing how the image of being a man has been used against you, and used to control you. You are your problem... not women! They deserve everything they're willing to fight for and if you don't want to fight for more than shut up!
@bragladish It shouldn't be about fighting the government or society for something, it should be about going out and earning it yourself. Women have every opportunity men have to earn what they want out of life. Women also have more help and support from the government, and society than men could ever dream of having. If women cannot earn what they want considering all this then it is just to bad, welcome to the real world.
@johnman1911 your world is not the real world... it's just your world. And the whole notion of going out and earning it yourself is a stupid point... who would disagree with that, but what you earn and the kind of working environment, and society is what they are advocating for. You're prejudice and victim mentality is blocking what I'm saying. Your brain is short circuiting every time you read my posts... you just can't hear the message! The problem is you!
@johnman1911 I don't blame them one bit, because you, so called, men are a bunch of little boys who lost their balls somewhere and no longer are the men you think you are. You want more, fight for it! But you don't want to do that you'd rather feel like a little victim and fall in line and get these radical women in line. Only a coward would pick on women for wanting more... and you are a coward because you want to suppress women instead of standing up for yourself.
@bragladish It has nothing to do with suppressing women and it has everything to do with the truth. It has nothing to do with me wanting more or picking on women for wanting more it has to do with justice. No one is against women for fighting for equality. I just want people to be honest about what is actually going on. There are so many false statistics and misnomers that today's feminism has spewed forth into society that it is not even funny.
@johnman1911 They also ignore the fact that men make up the vast majority of unsheltered homeless people. Feminists mainly look at elite experiences (something most men will never experience). But they ignore the Bottom Statistics where men are very prominent, and not in a good way.
@johnman1911 don't blame women for a corrupt society run, largely, by men! And don't blame women for men who will not organize for better treatment and safer job sights... that's your job, as a male, to do that! And I've worked with women in these kinds of environments and they're incredibly abusive... I wouldn't blame them, one bit, for not wanting to work in that situation. Your just the kind of bitter dickhead who hates women and want's to blame them for your own inadequacies.
@bragladish And you start right off by calling me a bitter dickhead, that says a lot about you. Plenty of men organize for better treatment and safer job sites. As men we also know that the job has to get done and we won't have a woman there to pay our way if we cannot find work. We have to take what we can get and work our ass's off. There is no special treatment for us we are men. I don't hate women I hate bullshit. Options = power and women have more options.
@johnman1911 you sound like a slave, not a man... your whole, I'm a man and I can take it and I'll just work my way out of this trap, is bullshit. Those day are gone. There's no special treatment for us, you say, but I guess you're too stupid to look at the statistics and see that men get all the special treatment. Stop being a cry baby and start being a real man... a real man doesn't pick on women, cowards pick on women for the poor choices he's made and their outcome.
@Marine475 Sh*ing doesn't produce new workers and thinkers. Sh*ing doesn't take the resources to feed and teach a human being, nor does it take months of round the clock work that could have been spent at work, producing more goods and services. What was your point here? Because you seem to be comparing children to human waste and not actually making a point. Parents of any gender are useful and necessary. Why shouldn't we care for the people who raise the next generation of labor?
@EMSDisorder Yes but good number two improves life quality of those workers and thinkers we have. Albert Einstein didn't develop his theory while suffering from explosive diarrhea. In any case its not about producing new workers and thinkers as you'll get none from mothers who require compensation for having their children. It's about building equal and just society.
@EMSDisorder If we didn't shit we would all be dead. Shitting is more important than having children. If we didn't shit we wouldn't be able to have children. How many days can you go without shitting?
I want the state to pay me or at least make it tax deductible for making my morning number two! It is hard labor nobody will do it for me it is often violent I don't like it and I can't function without it. PEG- Poop equality group.
@Marine475 I hope you are female. Because only women can make the real good shit. Only women take the hardest and longest shits. Women take the shits that men can't. Women become alcoholics and drug addicts because of how big their shits are. Women are subjected to the most violent shits. In short if you are a man you really don't know what it is like to take a good shit because of the patriarchy. So women are the only one's to receive state funding for shitting.
@Marine475 To move forward, your Poop Equality Group needs to discover its deep linkages with the feminist movement and environmental movement. You see, you are all victims that should spend your time using the U.S. democratic system to extract wealth from those who are not labeled as victims. Of course, once the U.S. is fully bankrupt, it will be more difficult to explain how you and others were just getting your fair share.
I am glad they put this clip up. Show the world one of the true faces of feminism when she is to old to be able to baffle you with bullshit and sneak in her lies. Now they are right upfront for everyone to see. I hope your greatest accomplishments are still to come Gloria Steinem because you haven't done jack shit good with your life thus far.
If you want to see a person speak about this subject who uses real facts then search Dr Warren Farrell. He is not a female or a feminist so he doesn't get the kind of mouthpiece this woman gets. What he says is actually true though. I think the truth is much more important than making women feel good about their own personal short comings through having them think of themselves as unjust victims when they actually have it much easier than men.
"Drug addiction and alcoholism." So we are supposed to feel sorry for women who have the time and money to do drugs all day. If they had work to do or if they did the work they were supposed to like raise their children they wouldn't be able to get messed up.
"With a higher degree of violence." Look at any statistics and you will see men are much more likely to be victims of violence than women. "With no reward." So having a house, a family, and being able to make your own hours is nothing to be grateful for?
"Homemakers work harder and longer than any class of worker in the united states." Really? Is it harder than coal mining, being a cop, a soldier, a brick layer so on and so forth?
@johnman1911 In many ways, yes. It's a role that you don't put down when you leave the workplace, and one where because family is so close to identity one naturally cares much more. It's not necessarily something that must be a full-time role though (it can be shared equally between parents), nor one that must be delegated to women.
@pgunn01 First of all she said that men don't do this role. Fathers don't care give, men don't care give. One the one simple point of being a housewife being the hardest job I think you and I both know it is not. As far as it not being a role you put down when you leave the workplace the same is true for men. Also ever hear of a man trying to build his business working nonstop. I just don't see how your comment is worth even making.
@johnman1911 No she didn't. She did refer to the fact that caretaking is traditionally considered a female role, but she didn't say that being a primary caretaker was exclusive to women.
Being a primary caretaker is very different from workplaces where one never leaves, and yes, it is more tiring and tough and draining than all but very few careers.
Steinem is not preaching superiourity of females. She's preaching a notion of fairness. You're reading her very wrong.
@pgunn01 People have children because they want to have children especially women. Men cannot get abortions, men cannot put a child up for adoption, men do not have the right to make the decision whether they will be a father or not men only have the right to decide whether they will sleep with a woman or not. I don't see why a woman or a man should get paid by the state for making little copies of themselves. Many women do get paid by the state to have children it is called welfare
@pgunn01 If people want to have or not have children that is on them. We are on the path to an overpopulation problem. Having children does not benefit society but raising them properly does. Making babies is the most selfish thing a person can do. Taking care of and teaching children is good. People who are caretakers already get paid for it. Taking care of your own kids is your duty and people should not get special treatment for it.
@johnman1911 I don't think they are looking for special treatment, I think they are looking for equal treatment, life and living security, respect, and the value/recognition they deserve. Every success story can always be followed back to the roots... a loving mother and father, but more often, a loving mother. And what these women are saying is that they want recognition for this contribution, to society. Without them you wouldn't have a job!
@bragladish You don't think women get recognition for raising children. Where are you living. Women who are the worst mothers get recognition for raising children as long as they don't get caught doing anything against the law. Having a baby doesn't make you a good mother any more than impregnating a woman makes a man a good father. One of the major overlooked problems is women who are not good mothers. We feel sorry for women because they cry so much.
@johnman1911 you sound like a half-wit psychopath... This topic is far more complicated than how the media, with it's political bent makes it out to be. What she is talking about is very important and if you got what she was talking about you would see that your concerns and her concerns are intimately linked. What do you think, humiliating and degrading young uneducated women is going to do? You are a creep.
@johnman1911 the saddest thing, about this post, is that you actually believe this shit. You are a fox feed weirdo... You've probably been dumped by every woman you've been with, and you just come off as a right wing angry ignoramus.
@pgunn01 A notion of fairness? What is fairness to you, getting paid to take care of your own children? If you can't afford children you should work harder to get the money to pay for them, then you can have children. Popping out babies left and right does not make you a special person and it does nothing for society. Actually caring for and teaching people does and people already get paid for that. Taking care of your own children isn't special it is human.
Look at the people's faces. They act like what she says is profound. Women chose the passive role everyday then only complain when it doesn't get them what they want.
"We count as work only what males do or could do." Are you saying that men cannot give care? Are you saying that men cannot be homemakers? Who is biased here?
First of all, please don't spam comments on YouTube—if you want something lengthy to say, write an essay or put it on Reddit/Facebook/etc. Secondly, there are a group of "equity feminists" that come to mind: people like Camille Paglia and Christina Hoff Sommers. They tend to see social issues affecting both genders and despise American feminism.
@TheCreativeElitist All my comments were true, unlike this speech. She first says men cannot be caregivers or househusbands, then she says that being a housewife is the most difficult job on the planet. Housewife does not have the most violence of any job. Housewives do not work the longest number of hours and it is not the hardest work. Everything her whole speech was based on was a lie.
I don't get why care-giving should be tax deductible? What does that even mean in practice, that we give a tax cut for every person in a household who isn't drawing an income? Unless you put a definition of "care-giving" its essentially giving a welfare payment to caregivers but ONLY if they are in a household that pays tax? Why limit it to tax paying households if the care-giving is the part being given the financial value?
Golly, you are such a genius making that huge leap to abolishing money like that. Maybe try coming up with some actual reasons for your position next time and not throwing out stupid crap would help. Give reasons! So far you sound like a you're 12 years old.
@gotonull 'Caregiving' is not synonymous with 'caring'. We need to attribute more value to listening, maybe. Anyhow, this was just a 3 minute talk. I suspect Gloria is capable of having a conversation with you about sustainability.
Usually I would avoid painting with such broad strokes, but I will answer to you that our current economic system, a system that disproportionately values and rewards dehumanization, greed and privilege, won't be sustaining us forever.
This is a great video! Thank you! Obama 2012!

EMSDisorder 1 month ago
@EMSDisorder Yes but good number two improves life quality of those workers and thinkers we have. Albert Einstein didn't develop his theory while suffering from explosive diarrhea. In any case its not about producing new workers and thinkers as you'll get none from mothers who require compensation for having their children. It's about building equal and just society.
Marine475 1 month ago
@EMSDisorder If we didn't shit we would all be dead. Shitting is more important than having children. If we didn't shit we wouldn't be able to have children. How many days can you go without shitting?
johnman1911 1 month ago
I want the state to pay me or at least make it tax deductible for making my morning number two! It is hard labor nobody will do it for me it is often violent I don't like it and I can't function without it. PEG- Poop equality group.
Marine475 1 month ago
@Marine475 I hope you are female. Because only women can make the real good shit. Only women take the hardest and longest shits. Women take the shits that men can't. Women become alcoholics and drug addicts because of how big their shits are. Women are subjected to the most violent shits. In short if you are a man you really don't know what it is like to take a good shit because of the patriarchy. So women are the only one's to receive state funding for shitting.
johnman1911 1 month ago
@Marine475 Sorry bro you are gonna have to go off and fight wars to make the same money women can make by shitting.

I hope your greatest accomplishments are still to come Gloria Steinem because you haven't done jack shit good with your life thus far.
johnman1911 1 month ago
Maybe women should start charging babies for breast milk too. Those little freeriders need to start recognizing economic value.

If you want to see a person speak about this subject who uses real facts then search Dr Warren Farrell. He is not a female or a feminist so he doesn't get the kind of mouthpiece this woman gets. What he says is actually true though. I think the truth is much more important than making women feel good about their own personal short comings through having them think of themselves as unjust victims when they actually have it much easier than men.
johnman1911 1 month ago
"Drug addiction and alcoholism." So we are supposed to feel sorry for women who have the time and money to do drugs all day. If they had work to do or if they did the work they were supposed to like raise their children they wouldn't be able to get messed up.

@tuplukka My issue is that I love truth and despise falsehoods.

"With a higher degree of violence." Look at any statistics and you will see men are much more likely to be victims of violence than women. "With no reward." So having a house, a family, and being able to make your own hours is nothing to be grateful for?
johnman1911 1 month ago
"Homemakers work harder and longer than any class of worker in the united states." Really? Is it harder than coal mining, being a cop, a soldier, a brick layer so on and so forth?
johnman1911 1 month ago
@johnman1911 In many ways, yes. It's a role that you don't put down when you leave the workplace, and one where because family is so close to identity one naturally cares much more. It's not necessarily something that must be a full-time role though (it can be shared equally between parents), nor one that must be delegated to women.
pgunn01 1 month ago
@pgunn01 First of all she said that men don't do this role. Fathers don't care give, men don't care give. One the one simple point of being a housewife being the hardest job I think you and I both know it is not. As far as it not being a role you put down when you leave the workplace the same is true for men. Also ever hear of a man trying to build his business working nonstop. I just don't see how your comment is worth even making.
johnman1911 1 month ago
@johnman1911 No she didn't. She did refer to the fact that caretaking is traditionally considered a female role, but she didn't say that being a primary caretaker was exclusive to women.
Being a primary caretaker is very different from workplaces where one never leaves, and yes, it is more tiring and tough and draining than all but very few careers.
Steinem is not preaching superiourity of females. She's preaching a notion of fairness. You're reading her very wrong.
pgunn01 1 month ago
@pgunn01 People have children because they want to have children especially women. Men cannot get abortions, men cannot put a child up for adoption, men do not have the right to make the decision whether they will be a father or not men only have the right to decide whether they will sleep with a woman or not. I don't see why a woman or a man should get paid by the state for making little copies of themselves. Many women do get paid by the state to have children it is called welfare
johnman1911 1 month ago 2
@pgunn01 If people want to have or not have children that is on them. We are on the path to an overpopulation problem. Having children does not benefit society but raising them properly does. Making babies is the most selfish thing a person can do. Taking care of and teaching children is good. People who are caretakers already get paid for it. Taking care of your own kids is your duty and people should not get special treatment for it.
johnman1911 1 month ago 3
@johnman1911 I don't think they are looking for special treatment, I think they are looking for equal treatment, life and living security, respect, and the value/recognition they deserve. Every success story can always be followed back to the roots... a loving mother and father, but more often, a loving mother. And what these women are saying is that they want recognition for this contribution, to society. Without them you wouldn't have a job!
bragladish 1 month ago in playlist Stanford News

You are a creep.
bragladish 1 month ago
@johnman1911 the saddest thing, about this post, is that you actually believe this shit. You are a fox feed weirdo... You've probably been dumped by every woman you've been with, and you just come off as a right wing angry ignoramus.
bragladish 1 month ago
@pgunn01 A notion of fairness? What is fairness to you, getting paid to take care of your own children? If you can't afford children you should work harder to get the money to pay for them, then you can have children. Popping out babies left and right does not make you a special person and it does nothing for society. Actually caring for and teaching people does and people already get paid for that. Taking care of your own children isn't special it is human.
johnman1911 1 month ago 6
The economic value of care giving? You want to pay women to raise their own children? Isn't that what men and the state already do?
johnman1911 1 month ago
Look at the people's faces. They act like what she says is profound. Women chose the passive role everyday then only complain when it doesn't get them what they want.

"We count as work only what males do or could do." Are you saying that men cannot give care? Are you saying that men cannot be homemakers? Who is biased here?

Are there any feminists who are prominent and don't spread bullshit?
johnman1911 1 month ago
@johnman1911

@TheCreativeElitist I thought I would put some truth in an otherwise crap clip.
johnman1911 1 month ago
@TheCreativeElitist All my comments were true, unlike this speech. She first says men cannot be caregivers or househusbands, then she says that being a housewife is the most difficult job on the planet. Housewife does not have the most violence of any job. Housewives do not work the longest number of hours and it is not the hardest work. Everything her whole speech was based on was a lie.
johnman1911 1 month ago
I don't get why care-giving should be tax deductible? What does that even mean in practice, that we give a tax cut for every person in a household who isn't drawing an income? Unless you put a definition of "care-giving" its essentially giving a welfare payment to caregivers but ONLY if they are in a household that pays tax? Why limit it to tax paying households if the care-giving is the part being given the financial value?
Philosification 1 month ago
Yeah, caring should be tax-deductible. That's sustainable. Let's abolish money too.
gotonull 1 month ago
Golly, you are such a genius making that huge leap to abolishing money like that. Maybe try coming up with some actual reasons for your position next time and not throwing out stupid crap would help. Give reasons! So far you sound like a you're 12 years old.
Philosification 1 month ago
@gotonull 'Caregiving' is not synonymous with 'caring'. We need to attribute more value to listening, maybe. Anyhow, this was just a 3 minute talk. I suspect Gloria is capable of having a conversation with you about sustainability.
Usually I would avoid painting with such broad strokes, but I will answer to you that our current economic system, a system that disproportionately values and rewards dehumanization, greed and privilege, won't be sustaining us forever.
