  • is that a red "night light" for the snake so you can see him a night?

  • A red heatlamp, but yes it stays on all night.. Not really for the reason of watching him at night though, more so because he requires it :P

  • Lampropeltis getula california requires a daylight temperature of 30 degrees Celsius (86 degrees Fahrenheit) to 32 degrees Celsius (89.6 degrees Fahrenheit) in one side of the tank - and about 25 degrees Celsius (77 degrees Fahrenheit) in the other. At night the temparature has to be dropped to around 28 degrees Celsius (82.4 degrees Fahrenheit). You should use a heat mat instead of a heat lamp...
