Vegas 8+ are enough and you can use almost any AE with it.

But it will be enormous rendering times though, atleast for AE.

Now you got me wrong :) I mean that you'll be able to make HD movies in Vegas 8, maybe 7 too? and it doesn't matter what AE version you got just that it is from the Creative Suite, then it will work fine with HD footage as well.
