Im still using my 280, dont understand why everyone needs to have the latest and greatest, when the majority of games dont require you to have dual 580s overclocked.....as a matter of a fact none of them do currently. My 280 plays everything on high with great framerates, and peeps still spending 800 bucks on new GPU's that they wont need for another 3 years.

8600 gt, obviously. BUT, you should get a 9600 gso. Right now it's cheap on newegg. It's more powerful than the gt220 (which is more powerful than the 8600 gt and gts.) but it's less expensive than the gt220. which is excel for bang for buck, it will beat pretty much any game at 1280 x 768. hope this helps, i do not recommend the 8600 gts, or gt. Get a 9500 gt and up, preferably a gt220 minimum if you have a 19 inch monitor.

lol ah yea, the 8600GTS with the molex connector version. I remember i was so giddy and excited to get this very model, couldn't afford either. Man 2007 seems like ages ago, i remember how we were all gearing up for DX10 and everything. Only to have DX10 to be super over hyped and somewhat disappointing. The 8600GTS alone was barely enough to run DX10 in high settings.

I just waited and a year later ended up getting the 9600GT, which pwns a pair of the 8600GTS in SLI. Good budget card.

Yea 2007 is one of my favorite years but it was a terrible year for PC gaming.

Even today there are no DX10 exclusives.

And the mid range cards really sucked. In some tests the 7600GT was beating the 8600GT and the 7900GT was going for around the same price as the 8600GTS only the 7900GT kicked it's ass!

no they haven't made PCI video cards regularly for about 6 years. and even then they have never released one fast enough to play games. even if you can find say an X1300PCI(ancient and slow but the fastest PCI card ever released) you're still restricted to half life 2 at the most and that game is ancient by todays standards

Yeah the 8600GTS doesn't use much for power so you're pretty safe. In fact I have one friend who ran one without the power cable hooked up even and it worked fine... not that you should try that if you already have the right power plug.

Don't ever do that. The 7900 gt is actually better then the 8600 gts in a lot of games. And I know what I am speaking, I had a 7900 gs and upgraded to a 8600 gts and didn't get any improvements. So no, don't do it. I would suggest you get a 9800 Gt or 4850. They are cheap and pretty fast.

Absolutely Donute41894- The 8600GTS is plenty powerful to play most any game on gamer settings. Its insane how powerfult he entry level hardware is getting. I remember when you had to spend hundreds of dollars to get the performance these cards dish out. This card will even play Crysis at 1024X768 on high with the patches installed. Left 4 Dead and Team Fortress 2 will fly on this card at their highest settings and high resolutions depending on your cpu.

it will improve your computers performance, it also encodes and decodes video so if you play games or do video editing you need a video car. Or if you hook up to a high resolution monitor you might want one, but if you just want to surf the internet, dont worry about it.

my old AGP ATI X850XT did more than 32GB/sec memory bandwidth. It did like 33GB which is significant because that card is like 5 years old. Its in my old gaming comp with has an AMD Athlon FX53 and 4 GB ram. That comp plays Quake Wars Enemy Territory no problem. Its actually faster than the 8600GTS which is kinda funny considering how old it is and its AGP. My new gaming comp that i have now is faster than anything ive ever been on, Obv cuz i custom built her.
