  • I think this would have sounded much better with less people and slower...

  • The guy with the tambourine gets laid roughly 20 times a week.

  • Look at everyone pointing their instruments into there stands... tisk tisk tisk, SOUNDED GREAT THOUGH!

  • this is great! the thing that makes this better is the fact that clarinets are in the front row!!!

  • not even asians are perfect. 5:10 *squeek*

  • 8:33

Gah.... E, and F for 6 measure straight on the clarinet :(

At least it's gonna go by pretty fast. :D

  • THERE BETTER BE AN OBOE OR I WILL FREAK OUT

  • "Please note that there are only a handful of mics on the band, so the balance is not as it sounded in the house. I did my best to mix it, but, of course, the instruments nearest the mics will be the loudest. My apologies."

    Read the description guys...

  • brass was really sloppy throughout the piece and I argee bass clarinets.

  • our band is so much more balanced, and the bass was sloppy.

  • Is it just me or does the dude with the tambourine look like nigahiga?

  • my elementary school is playing this......jaykay

  • Way too much clarinet, needs less clarinets, it's drowning out everything else. Unsettled tempo, band director needs to make up his mind..

  • @LiveTalkNow the microphone was like right near the clarinets thats why..

  • @ikedasan808styler Even then, looking at the band, their is TONS of Clarinets.

  • the bones let me down..

  • the brass section cannot tongue 16th notes :( maybe if they were taking the song at the actual tempo, they wouldnt have this problem...the clarinets and flutes also have the same issue.

  • I was the tambourine player for this song when my school played it & I never looked as ridiculous as this guy grooving out on his gypsy instrument.

  • where's the double bass..

  • tambourine was the best. ever.

  • The trombones weren't very good. :(

  • The beginning of this song should be played by one person on an alto flute, not the whole section on normal flutes

  • @MJeffHardyFanA11 no it shouldnt have. we are playing this at my middle school and the flutes (myself included) have that part. we all play that low flute part together

  • 1:24

  • My Man on Bongos was ugky as hell..... But he was doin his thing so I cant hate

  • DON'T RUSH!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great!...but would have been even greater, with fewer mistakes, if it had been conducted at the tempo written instead of faster. (It's if the band instinctively knows the tempo and the director is hurrying them along)

  • ahhhh! the bass clarinet is supposed to be playing those low reed solos grrrrrr! i hate how unappreciated we are :(

  • @eggsandgreenham u mad

  • @eggsandgreenham

Forreal though I remember playing this song last year on bass clarinet and working tirelessly on that solo :(

  • @eggsandgreenham We need to get bass clarinets more known!!!

  • FF to 1:20

  • This is beautiful! I played this in orchestra in high school 1970. Thanks for the memories, this is a beautiful rendition of a unique work.

  • I found a white dude!

  • Did anyone else notice how ugly the kid playing the bongos is? If you didn't pause the video on 6:03..

  • @chickenguypan that's a very encouraging comment

  • @chickenguypan defensive much?

  • @itsgotimepoppy65 Umadbro?

  • Asians... :3

  • My high school band is preparing to perform this in our next concert, and by listening to this, I've never been more excited to perform it.

  • My jr. High band played this song back when I was a 7th grader. I loved this song so much.

  • its funny how it ended with a squeak from a clarinet

  • Its funny how most of them are asian :P

  • i want it to just zoom in on percussion the whole time...

  • My band is performing this for the first time next Thursday. We've come a long way on this piece. But I don't think we'll ever be as good as them. lol but then again, we have a smaller band...

  • Dude, that must be the best tambourine player in the world

  • Er... they were looking at their scores the whole time and so few looked at the conductor, except the percuzssion section. and almost the whole band did not cue or jerk. LOL.... even though they manage to play together, but you can't tell if they enjoyed playing the music cuz no one is moving along to the music. but some parts are awesome though

  • is this an all asian band or something lol

  • 5 tubas? we had 4 at districts and it sounded much louder at the tuba Eb hits

  • The tambourine guy looks like my dad.... 0_o

  • What is with their percussion section?!?!? They didn't play the concert bass drum roll or that gong hit loud enough, and there were a few sections where I noticed that they had either changed the part or were choosing not to play the right rhythms and/or instruments. And why is that glock cover leaning on those timpani! That is not the place for it.

Other than that, with the exception of some of the brass, the group played it very well.

  • the lead clarinet's not holding his clarinet right D<

  • All asians? not surprising.

  • @magicicle Well it's in Hawaii.

  • @magicicle Pacific Islanders. Get it right.

  • Woodwind runs are CLEAN! You almost never get that with HS band.

  • @safesax65 it's because they're asian :3

  • Oof...trombones are not good. Though the flutes are great.

  • all Asians (with exception of some white and black people)

  • this band kinda sucks...

  • hm...yeah the trombones do not have a good tone quality at all.

  • OMG. This brings back so many memories when I played this song twice in band roughly 20 years ago. Once as a clarinet and another as a bass. It has always been my favorite festival piece to date :) This band ROCKS !!!!

  • that tambourine guy has epic stage presence but the point of sticking the percussion in the back is so you don't see them. MOVING MAKES YOU NOTICEABLE.

  • @stryder13422 Actually, any conductor will tell you if the audience doesn't see certain percussion instruments like cymbal and tambourine, they audience won't hear it which is why holding those instruments up at a noticeable height is crucial for performance reasons.

  • @Leftclick24 yah but being in the percussion since the fourth grade i know that in concert the percussion's purpose is to add to the winds. and yes i admit the audience is dumb and listens with their eyes but he was just a little too obvious. lmao. come on he rocking out to that part. i wish i could have that much fun with any of my parts

  • Let's see her explain that without her little paper...

  • loved the clarinet section

  • wheres the timpani part?!

  • dude it's there how do you not hear it

  • i feel bad for that principal clarinet player he squeaked like 4 times in crucial parts

  • lol shitty trombones. embarrassing

  • I played this in high school in 2007. Great piece of music and extremely challenging.

  • i wish the percussion at my school played their instruments with that type of energy :/

  • happy face i'm playing this in my wind ensemble on French horn, it's epic face.

and holy crap exagerated accents much lol.

  • @adamanddustinh

    FRENCH HORN! <3

  • @Superviruset BLAARGHABLAARGHABLAARGH! FRENCH HORN!

  • @adamanddustinh what school? im doing it too

  • @MallRatMeg Araphoe HS, Colorado

  • im playing a version of this in my high school marching band

  • 6:00 HAHAHAHA

  • I don't want to be "that guy".... but I went to music camp the other week and we did at least as well on this than this band after a week.

  • flutes behind the clarinets??? thats unusual. never seen that before.

  • @goodguy630 similar to an orchestral set up with 1st and 2nd violins in front.

  • @speedcubingjubjub oh yea. cool...

  • Not very strong, percussion soli really needed to be louder. Look up the performance by Huron High School at interlochen, Highly reccomended!

  • TROMBONES needeed work when they have the main line( melody) and clarinet are a litle loud through out the song with all the clarinets on the front row all you hear is carinets but other than that it was ok

  • more brass at 08:00

  • OH GOD TAMBOURINE GUY xD! So great.

  • In "can't" ation and Dance

  • lol a clarinet squeaked.

  • Wow. No wonder the brass is so quiet. Look at 8:39. All the brass has bells down. Ugh...

  • C'mon Trombones!!! PLAY the danged instruments, don't just blow through them. Make the triplets LOUD.

  • Everythings good except for the trombones! They dont tongue the notes during 4:37, and they dont sound focused. Alot of un wanted notes come out and its just sloppy

  • WOW this was great. Ithought my school was good when we played this back in 03 but not as good as this school. This is a really dedicated orchestra, as long as everyone practices their parts any orchestra can play like these guys. But 4 now YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME.

  • @sexxyangel19 this band sounds like a marching band, not a concert band in my opinion

  • LMAO! tambourine guy ahhaa

  • wow that was so amazing!!!!!!!!!!

i tried to play this song recently and we really failed :(

i wish we were as good as you guys

  • Lol tambourine

  • Good job, but lol tambourine guy 3:34

  • Bravo, Moanalua HS Wind Ensemble and director. What a masterful rendition of this delightful and devilishly complex piece! The mixing was fantastic. Thank you for this video gift, TycoonSim. I enjoyed playing 1st trumpet in this number with the Pine Bluff, Arkansas High School symphonic band in 1968. MHSSB, you folks took it much more allegro con brio than we did! I wish you much success, much fulfillment, and much fun as you keep making wonderful music together!

  • timpani!!

  • oh god i play claves on this... coz i'm not too good at anything else. i feel so loved.

  • @dathingsowner same here, lol

  • yeh. we're just awesome in our own way.

but seriously, i don't think i'm actually physically capable of playing any of the other parts.

    sad but true XD

  • My high school band is playing this song right now. We can play it that fast yet because we've only had it for about 2 weeks however our percussion would rock this bands any day. That tambourine man must be tripping on something! And my band played variations on a Korean folk song two or three years ago it is a very cool sounding piece.

  • I love the afro tuba man!

  • That kid was going really hard on that tamborine.

  • The tambourine guy made me laugh soo hard...

  • So many asians...?

  • School name sounds hawaiian

  • Cool my middle school symphonic band is preparing this(1st chair trumpet) for nat contest after winning last year with variations on a Korean folk song.

  • Awesome
