  • Mine have been laying a bunch of eggs but none of them are fertile :( too make it worse, she's not laying on them! Are we doing something wrong?

  • it is a female u can tell by the ring on the neck the female ring is thin males are thick!! on owl finches

  • I think this is a female owl finch in this video. It is hard to distinguish between the sexes in this breed. The meowing type song is so simular between each I never learned to distinguish myself. With the meowing aside, I loved watching the arobatic flight skills these birds love to do if the cage is big enough for owl finch loops.

  • Hi Is that the male or female calling/singing

  • As a bird owner of chickens, parrots, and now finches these have certainly been the cutest and funniest! Great birds :P

  • @DrFernTv

I loved having owl finches. A little hard to bread and raise to maturity. I think that took nine months to a year. Hence, the higher price to buy these finched.

  • Was watching video when my own owl finches started 'meowing' :D they sound more like a 'WEEEEEE' with mine though

  • @DrFernTv

    To Cool!

  • I have one,it's so cute:)

  • how much money are they$?

  • Sounds like my cat when he wants some turkey or a treat :D

  • How adorable. I've never seen an owl finch... As a bird lover and keeper at the moment, I have three zebra finches (all in separate cages as they don't get on with each other at all ha ha), one lovebird (his mate passed away last year) and a budgie. I'd love to own a Java Sparrow... And now I want an Owl Finch too! Thank you so much for sharing.

  • Ok. I want an owl finch now! Hopefully he can live with my Society Finch!

  • Sounds nice!

  • It's so cute! :)

  • awwwww

  • thats most extraordinary!

  • adorable little thing!

  • So incredibly cute!

  • Are owl finches fairly easy to breed?

  • The Owl Finch is a tough bird to breeed. We fostered out their eggs by putting them

in a Society Finch nest for hatching and being good parents, they would raise them as their own. :) This worked well.

  • man, why don't they have these in MY town!?!? :( that's too damned cute!!!!!

  • We have an owl finch mixed in with our society finches. He is really sweet, I would definitely recommend them.

Although his 'meow' sounds a little bit more like Beaker from the Muppet Show...

  • @kahsse

The meow of an Owl Finch is one thing, but to see an owl finch in a larger cage is another thing. These finches will do loops in the air and thats something to see.

  • Yes, the meow and the owl look combined with their pleasant nature makes these birds enjoyable to have in the home.

  • Owl finches look pretty sweet.

  • i want some of these too:( wow they're so beautifull.. i havent see those in the pet stores... well may i have but havent notice when they're there

  • I want one of these birds so bad 2!!!! I hope i can get one 4 Christmas!!! =]]]]

  • Gee- Thats how it all started for me. I got a pair of finches for Christmas and then the baby birds came next. We enjoyed little birdies in the house for a long time. Did you know that Owl finches will do aerobatics if they have enough space. They like to do loops.

  • Beautiful face markings :D

  • Aw! How cute. I think I'd rather have Java finches, but these guys would be cool too.

  • If I were to start breeding birds again, I might just pick Java Rice Finches. I love their song and how they will study you when your in the room. Owl finches can be more skidish and harder to breed.

  • i want one so bad!!!!!! there so cute!

  • Where are you located?

  • Yup! Currently have two pairs to go.

  • Do you really have any extras?

  • Come over and I'll give you one! :)

  • I want one badly!

  • I can't remember right now.

Owl Finches don't show much in the way of gender until one actually lays an egg. The males can have wider chest lines and a whiter faces. Another clue is watch when two pair up and even then its hard to figure out. Very nice birds to have.

  • this is a female, right?

  • its a very rear birds in india

  • hahaa it really does sound like a kitten!
