The number one danger to Edamame is that if you eat the pod it'll rip up your intestine. How one would manage to chew the pod up well enough to swallow is another story altogether.
Aside from what my mom told me, nope. But I wouldn't go taking any chances on it either. The pod is tough, hard to chew, etc. I can just imagine it would rip up the intestines if you ate them. After reading some articles I hear it's pretty safe to eat the pods. Though, there's a chance they'll make you sick if they're not ripe enough, steamed, etc.
