My first encounter with Sparks was songs like ''Let's go surfing'', ''Senseless violins'' and ''now that I own the BBC''. In my head I used to describe Sparks as ''panic inducing'' band :) Not in a bad way! But I mean, just listen to this one! :)
To me, their songs often have this feeling of hurry and danger. Sure, with humour, but it's still panic. Especially their 70s period and their 21st century period :)
Part of this song sounds like the "Scaramouche, Scaramouche!" part in Bohemian Rhapsody.
I only discovered these guys thanks to Siouxsie & The Banshees covering "This Town Ain't Big Enough For The Both of Us", and I have to say, I am getting into them.
A bit surprised that the YouTube recommendation system has never once suggested these guys, because I do listen to quite a lot of glam rock!
ok so i'll admit... i never knew the sparks before. i'm 33 so imised this, and only knew about them throug their song when do i get to sing my way, but this... this is what is worth listening and WATCHING
' Killer Sparks lineup' ... what a great way to describe that period of the Mael's releases. And what's odder than Russ' winter garb then Ron's hysterical expressions.
Everything about them is...mesmerizing. I feel like I could watch them for the rest of my life.

You have to be as bony and beautiful as Russell Mael to get away with a sweater like that.

Thanks for this!
*This* was the killer Sparks lineup - Iove em in any form (except for the seemingly endless dance period)- but they never sounded as good as here.
I think the real diff was Dinky Diamond and his inventive drumming. Like Keith Moon, he was irreplaceable.
