The main thing about Guti was his inconsistency. There was never a middle ground with him - when he played bad, he took the whole team down; when he was on his day, he was one of the best (if not THE best) midfielders in world football. It's a real dichotomy with this guy that never truly resolved itself on the pitch. He'll always be one of my favourites, and I hope he can help his new team Besiktas as much as he did Madrid.

I think he's good as Xavi, and even better. I love Xavi too, but Xavi is so overrat and Guti is so underrated. Guti is an amazing passer, his vision is amazing (And we can see it in this video - 0:25 ) I think he even much better passer than Xavi & Andrea Pirlo. As much as I hate Barcelona, I have watched some of their games. Xavi always passes the ball to a better positioned teammate, but is usually is NOT a FORWARD vs GOALKEEPER chance. Sure, the pass it great and it opens up a chance, and i do not deny Xavi's skill, but Guti had far more raw talent. @hotkeys you didn´t watch so many matches ;) xavis passes broking the defense to create a 1:1 fight between goalkeeper and forward, are very common! for example xavis passes at the 2:0 this year at the bernabeu, for messi and pedro, both passes were MAGIC, and they both ended with a goal ;)

The 1-0 at the Bernabeu is a good pass, but it turns into a goal mainly because of Messi. The 2-0, yes, that is a beutiful pass. I dont deny Xavi's skills, but ask any Real Madrid fan...lets day we are down in the score maybe 1-0 or 2-0, and who is the only one in the bench that could change things with a pass or two?

Riquelme and Guti were far more talented than Xavi. But Xavi RARELY had a bad game and was more consistent throughout the season. I respect all of those players, but i think Guti had better vision than all, Riquelme had better gambeta/awesome passing, and Xavi was just able to learn from Ronaldinho's passing (look him up) and become one of the best midfielders that have ever existed along with Platini and Zico (Notice how i do NOT put Zidane and Maradona here).

I judge players based on skill/ and how they perform at the high stakes ( World Cup/ Champion League/ Semi Finals/ Finals). I may have watched videos of Platini and Zico on youtube, but i will never know how they performed in a full match. i was born in 86, but so far,the best passes that would CHANGE the outcome of a game is Guti...maybe im bias since I am a Real Fan.
