  • Great hommage to the classic motion picture! Good as the "NIGHT OFTHE DEMON" music video!!!

  • Jesus!

Isn't she a wonderful dancer - never danced ballet before and then ...

    3:40

I wish she'd stayed this side of the mirror - she looks lush with her hair up!

And am I reading too much into 3:00 ?

  • She did do ballet before

  • She had danced ballet before.

  • 0:06

    'Jeeesus!'

    2:36

Is this the most beautiful woman you've ever seen ?(not Miranda, sorry..)

    3:39

She learnt to dance 'en pointe' just for this

    Kate - you're a marvel!!!!

  • Wonderful!!! ;)

  • i think Kate is well ahead of her time. its so unique, original and it will last forever. you may not get her now, but when it does it allways will..

  • anyone else absolutely terrified by the second half of this? :|

oh and the dancer has a terrible monobrow.

  • i love kate bush !

her songs and video ideas are always really creative.

    she's just so unique x

  • I love this lady i have done so since she first began :)

    So talented

  • kate bush reads too much... i love those devil demon guys... so good.

  • Love Lindsay Kemp in this....and all Kate's point work is done by Lucy Burge.

  • No acting? Why is acting important? Fool, you're watching something out of the mind of Kate herself, complaining she didn't participate. How do you know that her innocent dupe role was not acting and instrumentally important to how the story went? It's intentional. Unsurprising that a real person looks like a poor actor in a world that prefers the lies of Britney and Madonna. You wouldn't know a real person if it bit you on the nose.

  • Kate Bush is one of the most inspiring and mysterious of singers of our generation. Her material is romantic and emotional like so very few music artists. And I have always loved her slightly weird story-telling nature of songs. If there are witches on earth, she would definitely be one, a good one of course. Kate I love you!

  • Great video, visuals and performances. Worth watching.

There's a ton of interesting elements here(footage, editing, story, choreography, Miranda Richarson and Lindsay Kemp), so I'd hardly call this mediocre. Kate Bush may have displayed some average acting skills but it didn't exactly kill the show.

  • This is one pretty cool film.

  • I love how the woman has a Northern Ireland accent to start with, then it morphs into a Republic of Ireland accent. And there's no need for the monobrow.

  • Thank you!

  • Great fairytale. Great song.

  • That is one intense uni brow.

  • the music must not develop because it portraits an enchantment, a freezing situation, we can say. try and make a beatiful song with NO chords at all, just a seventh major. the seventh must resolve, usually to the first note, but here as said, it must be frozen. kb great kb

  • piss off, leo. kate is awesome.

  • I have to say kate is a great singer but a terrible actress!

  • but a good dancer too :)

  • I know what you mean if you have only seen her in this video. But try checking her out in the comic strip presents "les dogs".

  • I have to say Kate is a great singer but a terrible actress!

  • everytime i hear this song i just want to get up and do the silliest dance i can! (and i usually do).

  • i bloody love this !

    Kate is so unique x

  • thats the crappiest irish accent i ever heard

  • i love this song and vid its pure brillance

  • I would not have guessed that was miranda Richardson lol... Its them Eyebrows ¬¬ lol... Amazing song i actually want to dance =] x

  • Doskonała pod każdym względem

    she's great i love her

  • just moved new area

    wanting new friends N8

  • Shame this didn't make it to DVD.

  • Id Love to see Kate in Corrie,or Emerdale Lady Kate Bush of the Manor House

  • with no words! with no song! you can dance a dream! with your body on!!

  • I relly like mando and flute on no bleedin synth should have given dat cd a chance in da first place she the queen of folk-pop

  • Cool!

  • methinks kate drew mad eyebrows on her at the begining of this video????

  • Its so hard to think she has a london accent...

  • this story was one of the Hans Christian Anderson fairy tales, one of those truly grim cautionary morality tales he compiled -- what young woman doesn't want to be glamorous, a diva, a ballerina, a dancing queen? Well beware, the Devil is waiting to trick you, to use your profane & carnal desires as pitfalls for your soul -- more Xian morality, from centuries past. Ugh. But I like the song, I see why Kate re-enacted it - it's a classic, macabre Euro fantasy - to sell your soul to dance -

  • If there's one music-video on Youtube that makes my feet tap, then it's this one!

  • Don't put them on Kate!!! Ohhh too late :)

  • Is this video based on that story about a girl that put on some magic shoes and couldn't stop dancing til she died pf exhaustion? Because everyone's saying how fun it is but I'm just getting dark undertones :/

  • WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW UNBELEIVABLE!!!

Kate should have been in films, she should make films - this is glorious and gorgeous! Miranda and Kate together in this wonderful musical story, wonderful wonderful wonderful. I'm inlove!

  • Miranda Richardshon is truly one of the great talents of our generation.

  • What a hero ♥

  • Why disable embed you idiot? U don't want to share KB? U suck!

  • Great video and visuals. nice melody and instrumentation, but the music doesn't seem developed...or going anywhere.

  • You had the chance to criticise it over 10 years ago.

  • Where do you believe it should be going?

  • was kate in the film? im perplexed!

  • yes she was

  • yes. there's a film called the line, the cross and the curve, and the songs all link together. it's based on the folktale of the red shoes by hans christian andersen about shoes that won't stop dancing. there's a really interesting chapter about this folktale in clarissa pinkola estes' book about meaning in folktales. i was so excited when this came out, as i love the tale and 1948 movie. the woman loses her feet or dances to death, but originally she may have been restored to health.

  • theres some on the piano

    i love kates voice !!!!

this was really fun to watch

  • To jest Natasha czy Miranda Richardson????Nigdy nie jestem pewien.Moze ktoś wie?A wideo i pisenka wspaniałe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Ale kto? Ta z poranionymi rekami czy ta druga? Ta druga to Kate Bush at a pierwsza nie mam pojecia... :)

  • Jest faktycznie Miranda Richardson.

  • It is probably mentioned earlier somewhere..

But is this a part of an even longer video?

I saw a remix, with scenes that is not in this clipp.

  • Yep. It's from a longer video. She had a movie made from the album The Red Shoes. She did the same thing for the album The Whole Story. That one has Donald Sutherland in it.

  • Yes. "The Line, the Cross and the Curve" is a musical short film Kate directed in 1993 (50 minutes in length). Kate later described the film as "a load of bollocks", but I always loved it!

  • Nope, Miranda Richardson.

  • I thought that mysterious maid was played by Katie Puckrik!

  • This is not the "Shoedance" mix at all, I have that and it is a completely different length and arrangement.

This is simply an excerpt from "The Line, The Cross & The Curve".

  • upload it, pls

  • Done!

  • It IS the spoken passage from the SHOEDANCE mix,the music itself is the ordinary version.

  • Love the song, love the movie, love Kate and love Miranda! I love Manda's Irish accent! I always think she sounds Scottish when she says "happened" in "I don't understand how this has happened". Bless her!

  • Of course I love this song, and the video. I love everything she does.. But what I really appreciate is the amount of time she is able to dance in full point.. on the tips of her toes... now THAT is really hard!

  • I had the wonderful opportunity to watch Lindsay Kemp at the Festival Theatre in Edinburgh years ago. Fantastic.

  • this is so amazingly good

  • the woman is simply briliant

  • just great

  • Dig Richardsons Irish accent

  • Dig the Richardson unibrow...

  • Is it HER accent?.If so it sounds fantastic! what do native Irish people think,is it convincing?.This all became part of the "Shoedance" mix of this track. WONDERFUL STUFF.

  • Superb! Kate Bush is the best!! Miranda Richardson is simply perfect here! Thanks for posting!:)

  • I've always enjoyed Miranda, especially when she was in Blackadder II... what a nutcase!

  • More than being just one specific story, there are many many almost like this one. Many folklores has a woman who dances herself into hell on red shoes. Warning daughters about frivolity.

  • Something about her. Pure class!

  • So no one's read the book, The Red Shoes, by Hans Christian Anderson or seen the 1948 classic film, The Red Shoes, starring Moira Shearer then?

  • I have read the story... I tried reading it to my 6 year old and had to edit the story becaue it is so graphic.

  • You mean the part where she gets her feet cut off and replaced with wooden ones? Yep, that's pretty shocking, all right.

  • I've read the story AND seen the film. It's one of those old fairy tales that were full of morals and ended badly or sadly.

  • Reminds me of those German fables, where kids would disobey and then get all their fingers snipped off my some random guy jumping out from the bushes, or set on fire, or worse.

  • by the Grimm brothers right? Or HC Andersen?

  • Never trusted a mono-browed woman.

  • That's not exactly fair. When the local museum was showing its Persian exhibit, it featured many paintings with men and women displaying a unibrow. Evidently, it's a sign of beauty in that culture. If you didn't have a brow that met, they would pencil in a dark spot or line connecting the two eyebrows.

  • really wow i never knew that but i am sure tourette was jk

  • the red shoes make not being able to stop dancing. She stole her soul or life or... something like this

  • wtf??? im so lost..

  • has a real french film quality to it.weird but fun

  • creepppyyy

  • Amazing video this one of the fabulous kate Bush!

  • just pulled out my old vhs copy of the full film... it was made in 1994. lindsay kemp is in it!!! (crazy innkeeper from the wicker man, for reference.)

and yes, everyone in this is bats**t nuts and absolutely brilliant. i <3 kate bush.

  • Getting to see Kate with her mentor, Kemp is just simply amazing.

He was not only her performance teacher, he also taught Peter Gabriel and David Bowie.

    He's amazing.

  • Pure genius!

  • So strange, yet beautiful. What a voice! When was this made?

  • YES! I love this mini-movie!!

  • quite tacky

  • loool she danced her way to hell xD funny video, i love you kate <3

  • Nice name... I'm listening to "A Wonderful Day in a One-Way World" coincidentally!

  • Kate is a Genius! Amazing woman.

  • Miranda Richardson... almost as nuts as Kate.

  • Doesn't this song make you want to dance until your legs fall off?

  • yeah!

  • I LOVE THIS!!!

    Thanks for posting =)

    Kate is great.

  • Yeahhhh.... Kate you´r amacing but a little stupid...

  • ...

  • Wonder if you even know what the Red Shoes are all about.

  • what do you mean?

  • Go read Clarissa Pinkola Estes' book "Women Who Rune With The Wolves" and you'll see what I'm talking about.

There is a story in there about The Red Shoes. I guarantee you Kate knows what that story is...because in the liner notes for this album she mentions Clarissa Pinkola Estes.

  • Ok, thanks for the info

  • Thank you for your comments, very informative. It's good to see so many people's interesting comments on Kate.

  • I love Kate Bush!! Thanks for uploading this!! :D

    xx Superlu xx
