No acting? Why is acting important? Fool, you're watching something out of the mind of Kate herself, complaining she didn't participate. How do you know that her innocent dupe role was not acting and instrumentally important to how the story went? It's intentional. Unsurprising that a real person looks like a poor actor in a world that prefers the lies of Britney and Madonna. You wouldn't know a real person if it bit you on the nose.
Kate Bush is one of the most inspiring and mysterious of singers of our generation. Her material is romantic and emotional like so very few music artists. And I have always loved her slightly weird story-telling nature of songs. If there are witches on earth, she would definitely be one, a good one of course. Kate I love you!
Great video, visuals and performances. Worth watching.
There's a ton of interesting elements here(footage, editing, story, choreography, Miranda Richarson and Lindsay Kemp), so I'd hardly call this mediocre. Kate Bush may have displayed some average acting skills but it didn't exactly kill the show.

I love how the woman has a Northern Ireland accent to start with, then it morphs into a Republic of Ireland accent. And there's no need for the monobrow.
the music must not develop because it portraits an enchantment, a freezing situation, we can say. try and make a beatiful song with NO chords at all, just a seventh major. the seventh must resolve, usually to the first note, but here as said, it must be frozen. kb great kb
this story was one of the Hans Christian Anderson fairy tales, one of those truly grim cautionary morality tales he compiled -- what young woman doesn't want to be glamorous, a diva, a ballerina, a dancing queen? Well beware, the Devil is waiting to trick you, to use your profane & carnal desires as pitfalls for your soul -- more Xian morality, from centuries past. Ugh. But I like the song, I see why Kate re-enacted it - it's a classic, macabre Euro fantasy - to sell your soul to dance -
Is this video based on that story about a girl that put on some magic shoes and couldn't stop dancing til she died pf exhaustion? Because everyone's saying how fun it is but I'm just getting dark undertones :/
Kate should have been in films, she should make films - this is glorious and gorgeous! Miranda and Kate together in this wonderful musical story, wonderful wonderful wonderful. I'm inlove!

yes. there's a film called the line, the cross and the curve, and the songs all link together. it's based on the folktale of the red shoes by hans christian andersen about shoes that won't stop dancing. there's a really interesting chapter about this folktale in clarissa pinkola estes' book about meaning in folktales. i was so excited when this came out, as i love the tale and 1948 movie. the woman loses her feet or dances to death, but originally she may have been restored to health.
Yep. It's from a longer video. She had a movie made from the album The Red Shoes. She did the same thing for the album The Whole Story. That one has Donald Sutherland in it.
Yes. "The Line, the Cross and the Curve" is a musical short film Kate directed in 1993 (50 minutes in length). Kate later described the film as "a load of bollocks", but I always loved it!
Love the song, love the movie, love Kate and love Miranda! I love Manda's Irish accent! I always think she sounds Scottish when she says "happened" in "I don't understand how this has happened". Bless her!
Of course I love this song, and the video. I love everything she does.. But what I really appreciate is the amount of time she is able to dance in full point.. on the tips of her toes... now THAT is really hard!
Is it HER accent?.If so it sounds fantastic! what do native Irish people think,is it convincing?.This all became part of the "Shoedance" mix of this track. WONDERFUL STUFF.
More than being just one specific story, there are many many almost like this one. Many folklores has a woman who dances herself into hell on red shoes. Warning daughters about frivolity.
Reminds me of those German fables, where kids would disobey and then get all their fingers snipped off my some random guy jumping out from the bushes, or set on fire, or worse.
That's not exactly fair. When the local museum was showing its Persian exhibit, it featured many paintings with men and women displaying a unibrow. Evidently, it's a sign of beauty in that culture. If you didn't have a brow that met, they would pencil in a dark spot or line connecting the two eyebrows.
just pulled out my old vhs copy of the full film... it was made in 1994. lindsay kemp is in it!!! (crazy innkeeper from the wicker man, for reference.)
and yes, everyone in this is bats**t nuts and absolutely brilliant. i <3 kate bush.
