You are completely ignoring the concept of triangulation. By pulling him in the opposite direction he is moving you give him the opportunity to brace himself. The only way your technique would legitimately work is if he threw a ridiculously overcommited attack. The proper way to do this would be to pull him to your left post irimi-tenkan.
LOOL. What the hell? Is this supose to work in real life situations? :S
Really, what's with the so called "Martial Arts" who can't even be aplied to real life situations? It's like building a car without engine, or trying to play football without a ball. It's just pointless...
@texasrangertwb: definition of momentum "the product of a body's mass and its velocity", wich means to continue the other guys direction. I am fully aware that he lack balans diagonally backwards, the fact is that this guy is a crappy aikidoka and explains what he is doing in a bad way. To make an instruction clip without really knowing aikido is not so good idea. (Yes you can SEE that he does not, and the partner can not make a proper "shomen" strike)
Ok, redirect the force...he correctly says to use the momentum. Yes, but the momentum is forward, then why go aginst the force and pull him back again. This goes against the idea of momentum.
@pejokd The objective is to use the opponent's momentum against them, which does not always mean to keep it going. In this case the opponent's center of gravity would be moving forward, and the defender would then take steps to throw his CoG off balance, in this case moving his top half backward.
akido is awesome
