so many balls don't make it each step. bet if u put in 100 at start none would make it all the way. the 20 modules one on youtube looks way cooler too.
This machine is like government; big, serves little purpose, doesn't work properly thus needs extra people to push thing through, takes way too long in getting things done, is full of smaller pet projects that waste time and energy, and I'm certain others can add more to this.
This would be even cooler if "Mechanical Resonance" (Final Egg Act 1 BGM from Sonic Adventure) was playing in the background. Come to think of it, this looks like a Sonic the Hedgehog level layout...
Amazing idea and scale, but it's so far from perfect. I would have liked to 'follow' 1 ball around the track instead of them throwing new ones in all the time.
Very impressive. It does look like certain parts could have been improved though, both with transport speed & stability (noticed a few balls fall off/were already knocked off)
This should be penalized for the 9 systems that don't do their work, including the ones @ 11:00 that we're messed up, and also the other ones that do their work very slowly
I've got a machine that makes lead into gold. You put the lead in one end it whirs a bit then a chubby guy in overalls comes along and throws a handful of gold into the out chute....
@lalkin Kind of impossible, with a contraction of this size. And remember, it's built from Lego, a building block hardly known for its precision, without the benefits of ball bearings, mass dampers etc. This is why so many balls fall out, it's simply because there's an element of instability especially when you're building with bricks that are designed to be loosely-held and temporary. In a perfect system, there wouldn't be any jostling or vibrations violent enough to dislodge the balls.
@Strand0410 I disagree. With proper engineering, you can counter those inaccuracies. See-also the LEGO machine which 3D-prints things out of LEGO, and the relatively-precise Mindstorms scanner I built over a decade ago.
@lalkin The guy puts balls into the machine so that we didn't have to wait longer than necessary at every module. The video is long enough as it is. It's not like the whole thing would break down if he wasn't there.
@LasseDeleuran there are videos on the web with examples, showing that you don't need that much human interference if you'd just do it right. this for example: youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=rWd3vgLaA_M
