@EthanSchriver I was in the Army, but you shouldn't really put down the police who were on-scene for this. They arrived without armor, and with small caliber sidearms; they were facing to two fully armored gunmen with stronger (and fully automatic) weapons. Exposing themselves to line up a decent head shot with an M9 or other pistol would have been a very likely fatal mistake.

You should use a 4-men crew to be like an elite unit. Use walkie talkies to communicate with each other.

Handguns aren't exactly the most accurate thing on Earth. Being able to pull off a shot at a mild distance and hitting a head-sized target in itself is not an easy task. Not to mention stuff around you is being torn apart by automatic gunfire, and when you poke up your head, they swing around to disintegrate whatever you're hiding behind.

And to those who say they need to do this, or do that, you have to remember, 9:25a-9:35a, that's TEN MINUTES of continuous fire, that they have to stay down from. Beretta 9mm's, and Shotguns won't puncture their body armor, so the police are outgunned. It took SWAT approximately 18 minutes to arrive and were ultimately the ones who ended the fire fight; back in the late 90's ('97.) MANY police agencies didn't allow officers to carry long guns in their cars. They handled it the best they could.
they should've called the snipers or ethier told the swat to throw smokes and have the other swat officers go in behind of the robbers while the other officers stay where they were or go to some more secure cover.

Handguns aren't exactly the most accurate thing on Earth. Being able to pull off a shot at a mild distance and hitting a head-sized target in itself is not an easy task. Not to mention stuff around you is being torn apart by automatic gunfire, and when you poke up your head, they swing around to disintegrate whatever you're hiding behind.

most of them were out of range. AK47 have longer range than a 9mm. And even if some of the cops were within range, it's almost impossible to pull off a head shot at that distance with that kind of pressure.

Police arent allowed to use 50 cal teams because of the risk of how heavy the weapon is and how much damage is can do to a human body, they would get a lot of heat from the media.

a. Larry abandoned the AK because after shooting for an hour he was on his last few bullets and would not have been willing to clear the jam under fire.
b. Larry wasn't trying to reload his gun. He didn't need to reload it because it wasn't empty, otherwise what did he shoot himself with? He made his choice when he didn't hop into the car and simply drive off.

@valerysachko this incident changed law enforcement training to what it is today. this wouldnt happen today. SWAT wouldnt have been called today. the training recieved has been refined to handle situations like this.

normal cops don't carry the weapons needed to respond, which is military grade weapons. That's why SWAT is called = Special Weapons and Tactics. They're called that for a reason.

If you ask any officer this whole situation is the reason why many Police Agencies have changed their policy on weapons and shootout situations. And to those who say they need to do this, or do that, you have to remember, 9:25a-9:35a, that's TEN MINUTES of continuous fire, that they have to stay down from. Beretta 9mm's, and Shotguns won't puncture their body armor, so the police are outgunned. It took SWAT approximately 18 minutes to arrive and were ultimately the ones who ended the fire fight; back in the late 90's ('97.) MANY police agencies didn't allow officers to carry long guns in their cars. They handled it the best they could.
