Maybe you don't want to be rude Voltaren, which you were not, but your comments are obviously coming from the mouth of someone who really does not know the first thing about music; and I suspect that you don't like black skin very much either.
i had a great appreciation for Aboriginal people before i came to Australia 9 years ago..But this appreciation has grown beyond something normal now..I am crazy about them. Thanks to Gurrumul ..The voice of an angel.Ahhhh I am speechless!!
Don't want to want to be rude, as you obviously love this guy, but he is an average singer at best and a lousy guitarist. All his songs seem to have the same 3 chords. Is there something I'm missing?
@Voltara What you're missing is regardless of whether a song has 3 chords or 10 chords, if it can cause people to lose themselves in the song completely, it is something special. His music is as pure as it gets.
Yes, you're missing something....but I can't tell you how to find it. If you don't hear the beauty of his singing, the spiritual tug it causes....then you can't feel it.
i found out about this guy on an abc show called 'australian story', or maybe it was a different one. either way, im glad i caught the show by chance, as his voice and music is beautiful
i think its so patronising when they give aboriginals token awards. hardly anyone new him before the arias! british india are better than any blind person playing an upside down guitar.
wether your discovered thruogh aussie idol, the Arias or busking on the street if ya got it, you got it !!! when you get to perform on the arias I'll watch ya on you tube too,and say, well done cobba !!
Actually there is a whole culture in Australia that does not exist in the eyes of some. I for one have known of this guy since about 1992. Since he was with Yothu Yindi. I also have known he has been with saltwater band since then. In fact Aboriginal Australia has many stars the mainstream never hears of. Its not a token award when hes been performing for 20 years. Close your eyes and listen maybe your heart will soften.
I scraped together my pennies to fly from Melbourne to Cairns to see Garrumul a while ago. Not because he's aborigine, not because he's blind...just because he, and his dedicated/talented support band, are AMAZINGLY beautiful. The concert, at the Tank theatre (LONG before the Arias), was a life altering event. Not important if he is the "best", he is just WONDERFUL. Daledogga, enjoy what the world has to offer.
Thanks for the comment. It was a GREAT concert (too short, I wanted MORE). You are lucky to have the Tank Theatre. It is a wonderful venue for lots of events. Cairns is okay too (but a bit hot for us cold-blooded Victorians!! Ha Ha)
Mate that voice is heaven.
