  • If the world truly adhered to such a beautifully benign way of life; we would still have all of the lost species and the earth would be mostly covered in lush rain forest.

  • Great great video, thanks alot!!

  • Not starting a flame-war here, but isn't the symbol in the beginning of the video should include swastika?

  • @Zotov13 The symbol at the beginning is the official symbol of the Jain faith. The swastika is actually an ancient symbol used by Indian religions for centuries to represent the invoking shakti, or the sacred symbol of auspiciousness. Before it was used by the Nazi party, it has been a symbol of success and favorable qualities in many cultures. In other cultures, the swastika was also an ancient representation of a sun wheel. :)

  • human beings are inherently violent ..people have deviced ways and means to satisfy their viloent urge....and jains who claim to be non-violent are no execption to that...albeit their violence is of a different kind.....through their aggressive business practices and their sick and masochist religious practices which inflict pain and suffering on their own bodies

  • i was born in a jain household unfortunately.....all this talk of non -violence is bullshit...and a sham....jainism owes its existence to violence ,if hindus had not resorted to violence to fight and protect their faith against islamic conqurerors of central asia, jainism would also have been perished or jains would have to leave india and take shelter somewhere else just like the zoroastrians..it is only because hindus took arms and killed and fought that their identity has been maintained

  • Jainist Terrorism: having thoughts about meditating a carrot to death. I don't agree with Jainism, but it's hard not to like it.

  • @MarinusCopy i hope the carrot is in a better place

  • anyone else hear that intro and think it was duel of the fates?

  • @325982668 oh shit it was :S

  • Well for one, it is a sustainable form of living at least.

  • Does anyone know the name of this beautiful song?

  • drinking and eating milk and milk products and honey is biggest HIMSA. You are using Animals for your purpose. Animals are tortured. Have you taken permission from animal? Centuries ago thing is different. Today options are available like soyabean and coconut milk.

  • If you are drinking and eating dairy products then U must stop yr hypocratic drama about hinsa and ahinsa. U are like foolish, who will never rise & go beyond such drama. and continue foolish arguments till Infinity.

  • VEGANS :

There are approximately total 1.5 Cr Vegans around the world.

(Vegans choose not to eat anything which is taken from animals, for example:

    * No dairy products such as cows milk, cheese and yogurt; nor goats milk

    * No honey

Though Vegans Are Not Shouting Loudly That , Look Our Religion Is Great , We Are So Great And All

Others Are Below Us. They Are Not Showing False Ego. They Are Saying That There Is No Connection

Between Veganism And (Dharma) Kingdom Of God.

  • @100ANX Jainism is not about Vegetarianism or any other way of choosing what or when to eat. It is a religion which has a set of rules where Ahimsa is a big deal. These rules are never enforced on anyone. Every Jain follower is proud of his religion like any Hindu, Muslim or catholic would, proclaims it to be the best, which is natural. I doubt Veganism is a religion but believe its a lifestyle.

  • @KinDumb Hindu proclaims his religion is best, Muslim proclaims his, catholic proclaims his so you are proclaiming yours......... pls Dear, rise above all this and be TRUE spiritual. Each and every individual in world is GREAT and DIVINE.

  • @100ANX KEEP IT UP..... YOU HAVE SAID GREAT TRUTH.

  • @100ANX Fanatic peoples will not able to DIGEST your truth. They will try to escape and will play with words and arguments. But actually there is no escape route....more you try to escape ...more you suffer..

  • @100ANX Veganism is a diet, not a religion.

  • We Are Just Following Veganism Naturally To Live Life Aesthetically. Try Your Best To Follow

Veganism But If You Are Not Able To Follow , Your Nature And Genetics Is Not Allowing You Than It

Doesnt Means That You Are Below Us Or Any Such Thing And We Are Doing Something Great.

  • This is a religion that even non-Jains, and indeed non-religious people, can respect and appreciate.

  • @Zurkhardo7 Because their core and principal doctrine is peace, unlike the dominant ones of today.

  • @Zurkhardo7

    as an atheist i 100% agree :)

on of my best friends is a Jain and sometimes we meditate together.

he does it for spiritual reasons

i do it for mental health reasons :)

  • @Mikeybetts Haha, I do the same with some Jain teachers at our school. That's my exact explanation!

  • This is the most dangerous religion

  • @WarmongerWW3 LOL

  • @WarmongerWW3 Lol, especially with today's standards of what constitutes a "religion of peace". Need I say more?

  • @emilyj1987 Imagine a world without people punching each other, and respecting other species. Besides boring, there would be no technological progress. Imagine: no lab rats for research, no monkey for research etc. Biological Science would be screwed. Plus, what they do with parasites, Schistosoma mansoni and so on? They don't kill them? Violence is an intrinsic part of nature. People should not avoid it

  • @WarmongerWW3 Hmm, valid points. Pure pacifism is flawed, but some Jainists argue that violence in self-defense is permissible. As to science and technology, not sure how to rebut that. I'm not a jainist myself, I just find the ideology quite interesting and admirable in theory. But with those instances you cite, I guess it would need to make those exceptions to be applicable to modern society.

  • @emilyj1987 peace leads to stagnation ... terrible. War, on the other hand, is much more interesting and full of technological opportunities >:)

  • @WarmongerWW3 Lol, I should have gleaned that from your name... Peace outie. (Or in your case, "War outie" ??)

  • @WarmongerWW3

an eye for an eye will make the whole world blind.

  • @jimmyjones9876 The whole world will be destroyed anyway in just a few billion years because the Sun will become a red giant. so the humans will need to create ways to live without the Earth. This requires technological development and the history of humankind shows us that major scientific discoveries and technological development happened in wartime, encouraged by the wars. So in the end of the day, the wars will save the humanity ! Quod erat demonstrandum

  • @WarmongerWW3

let nature do its work don't interfere in it.bcoz if tsunami or earthquakes came your nukes or missiles will be of no use.

  • I love a recent comment made by Sam Harris (author of The End of Faith) in regards to the Jain religion in comparison to other religions (specifically Islam).

"There is, I'm happy to say, a religion of peace in this world, but it's not Islam. Jainism actually is a religion of peace. The core principle of Jainism is non-violence. The crazier you get as a Jain the less we have to worry about you."

  • repent to Jesus christ for his kingdom comes, repent to Jesus because your loved! repent all you who love Jesus christ! repent for his kingdom comes

  • @bass109 I'm sure Jesus would wholeheartedly agree with Jainism - it's pure pacifism: harm no other living creature, remove negative thoughts from one's own mind, attain knowledge to elevate one's soul, calm the soul with meditation, etc.

I don't think it matters that it's called "Jainism" instead of "Christianity". A rose by any other name would smell just as sweet.

  • @bass109 how many jains do you find on christian sites stop ramming your faith down their throats their silence is a greater testimony to faith than yours. Peace if you truly know what that is........live and let live.

  • The Internet is normally our savior.!!! Faster transmission of information allows us to explore the wonderful things such as Jainism

  • So many comments on this video with negative perspectives?? Its sad to see people claiming to understand various Dharmas who don't even follow basic ethics or show any tolerance for different point of views. Regardless of our particular religious affiliations or spiritual beliefs if our spiritual path isn't promoting love then it does nothing to improve humanity.

  • Does the philosophy of Jainism teach non defense as part of non violence? If someone is about to murder you would Jainism counsel self-defense or passivity?

  • Can I practice part Jainism & part Hinduism (my original one) ? i live in bay area but feel not so comfortable entering milpitas temple. i would regularly like to come & learn more but may not get fully involved if that works?

  • I'm a devoted Hindu, naturally, I was raised and brought up with Hindu teachings, but Jainism is a great way of life as well. I find it unsettling that not many people know about religions which originated from Hinduism such as Jainism or Sikhism though, they're just as morally valuable as Hinduism is, however a lot of people get them confused with Hinduism, or even Islam.

  • @virajxpro My understanding is that Jainism is older than Hinduism. Am I wrong?

  • @equsnarnd There are serious discussions about Jainism being (in its origins) an extremely old and aboriginal religion of India, existing long before the Vedic/Indo-Aryan developments in South Asia. My hunch is that this IS indeed the case, making Jainism far, far older than Hinduism.

  • @Nishap739 Sounds reasonable. I've heard somethings about being able to identify roots back to Paleolithic times.

  • @Nishap739 no dude jainism is nt older than hinduism coz jainism comes from the sharama tradition wich was based on denial of vedas as revealed scriptures nd d caste system so shramana cuz nt hav come in2 existence if sum early form of hinduism did nt exist,so my bet is vedic brahmanism is older to jainism btu wat is now called modern hinduism came much later after d rise of buddhism and jainism,nd its a mixture of all all 3-jainism,buddhism,vedic brahmanism

  • Non-violence has deep but simple meaning. It is not only that one should not violate the right of others but also should not be violent against the thy self. Before one can do harm to others, one harms self by thinking ill. It does not teach to suffer the misdeeds of others but rather resist such act by sticking to the truth and at the same time not to repeat the mistakes of the opponents.

  • Actually Jains believe in seeing things from a multi-angled approach so it's not likely that in the long-run if they HAD to use violence then they would if it was for the greater good. Obviously non-violence is preferable to violence and that's why I respect these people. Jains are more concerned with people adopting their principles then their dogma and that's why I have the utmost respect for them - they are never going to murder or resort to coercion.

  • Non-violence has never worked it's simply a "Non-feasible" concept. Those individuals who practiced it where mostly surrounded by groups who were willing to pick up the sword in the case of emergency.

  • jains are hindus

  • @thescorpionking2020 Jains are not Hindus. Jains do not accept the sacred books of Hinduism. They also don't believe in a creator, whereas Hindus do. All the concepts of logic, salvation, karma and the soul in Jainism are different from those in Hinduism.

  • @Medracin ddue jains celebrate all hindu festivals, they intermarry with hindus, most of the jains today dont hav any problem calling themselves hindus, the vishwa hindu parishad is currently lead by a jain so jains are hindus ok

  • @thescorpionking2020 I think that's more about tolerance than actual belief. Furthermore, the VHP use the word Hindu to mean all followers of the Dharmic faiths, including Jainism and Buddhism, but that doesn't mean Jains and Buddhists are Hindus, it's just a term the VHP are using. Considering that Jains don't believe in a God, I don't see how they can be considered as Hindus, when belief in God is such a key aspect of Hinduism.

  • @Medracin c dude the fact is thth jains deny a creator god but they do believe in giving godly status to those who achineve moksha, many jain tiranthakars are venerated in both hinduism and jainsim, and morever dont jains worship hindu gods huh rama, krishna are all worshipped by jains plz dont do this flase propaganda tht jains are nt hindus, jains n sikhs are part of hinduism

  • NOn-violence is the only way to redefine humanity.

Anything we do, should be done with love

and compassion. where there is non-violence,

there human radiate peace and development.

  • what's the song

  • so jainism is just like hinduism and buddhism?

  • It appears to share a lot of similar concepts with them, along with Sikhism, they all continue the Indan tradition of thought after all.

  • @shakeNspray

    not really

    we are vegetarians

hindus and buddhists eat meat and what ever they want

  • People in the West so very often confuse knowledge for wisdom. Their materialistic way of life is the very definition of janism's concepts of ignorance. Buddhism is also a religion I would recommend to those seeking to obtain true wisdom and happiness. For it is the state of our mind that in the end detirmines the quality of our life.

  • @HellesBringer .funny because our materialistic way of life is why your on youtube, otherwise you wouldnt be.

  • I'm happy to use modern technology, when it's possible for the benifit of all sentient beings. For example, participating in international charity foundations. The problem is that most people become intoxicated with earthly opiums and confuse pleasure for happiness. But that's like chasing a rainbow and trying to wear it as a dress.

  • Jainism is much much older than Hinduism. Hinduism is recent phenomenon drawn out of Vedic practices.

In dravid dominated culture and country, indus valley excavations have depicted existence of Shramanic culture which Dravidians were practicing. Principles like Yog, non-violance, Karma , Soul theory were used by dravidians and Jainism .

  • Aryans who invaded india around 3000 years ago were basically nomads from central and eastern europe came on horses defeated dravidians. To call themselves indegeneous , brahminic theory accepted many gods of Jainism, for eg. Rishabdev (which is mentioned in rigveda) was original Jain god much older than any other god was later renamed as Siva (mahadev). Interestingly Siva and Rishab's birthday is same (that is mahasivaratri) and their symbol is same.

  • same. However Rishabdev was a nude god and brahminic culture mocked him, called god of destruction and renamed as Siva with his character depicted as Linga( because he was nude) sitting infront of Nandi.

Saivism and vaishnavism had no relation with each other being enemies. So hinduism cannot be considered older than 500 years old (named by britishers) and brahminic(vedic religion) cannot be more than 300
