Never had a swelling but do get dry patches from too much soy if I over do it. We prefer sea salt or seaweed for saltiness. As for the bread heating flax drama I think in moderation its ok just like cacao or coconut oil just not all the time special occasion treats.
It is ok to indulge a little sometimes I mean when you have cut out meat and dairy etc you are lightyears ahead of the masses.
Tamari is great, I've never had a reaction to it and I would rather risk using a tiny amount of something that's been heated then consume something that has gluten in it (Nama Shoyu).
Oh the mountains- you just made me homesick! I went to CU in Boulder and now I'm in Korea.. mountains=notsomuch. I used to volunteer at the boulder coop and would have loved to invite you to taste our raw goodies, but sadly it's no longer. I hope you're having lots of fun!
I have long preferred the taste of tamari over regular soy sauce, but I don't think I've found it in Korea...I don't use it much anyway.
what about Dr Mercola's argument that flax oil goes rancid almost immediately and not fit for human consumption...??? He recommends grinding your own flax seeds as needed. Any thoughts?
I think Mercola is 1/2 right. Flax oil is not meant for production and distribution. I just either soak the flax seeds or grind them as needed and keep whole seeds refrigerated. I use raw egg from my chickens like an oil or fat, even in my coffee.
Guessing by experience: 4 hours minimum, not sure of a maximum, but 18 hours is fine at least. I think you can get the benefit from them even when eating them whole if soaked overnight..
I asked because Dr. Brian Clement mentioned that he grinds sprouted flax seeds and eats like that but his wife, Dr. Ann Marie Clement, soaks the seeds and drinks that water.

Hi
Would you, please, let us know for how long the seeds should be soaked to obtain benefits?
Thanks in advance!

just a few hours, or overnight. That's how I do my crackers. I let them soak overnight then next day I season it then spread it in my dehydrator.

that's my thinking. If is not naturally available I just don't eat it. I too soak my flax and use almost non of the ground ones.
