@MiSSloveish It's safe as long as there aren't a bunch of trees or houses around. You'll want to release them on a night with very still winds, as well.

@richd506  It is northern Thailand's version of 'Loy Kratong' celebration. to a difference between the old Lanna calendar and the Thai calendar, Yi Peng is held on a full moon of the 2nd month of the Lanna calendar ("Yi" meaning "2nd" and "Peng" meaning "month" in the Lanna language). The festival is meant as a time of making a merit and pay respecct to Phra Kate-kaew-chula-ma-nee (Stupa of Nirvana at Wat Katekaram, Chiang Mai province.)
