@johnnylifeson It's way more common to completely *ignore* GNU. What is a kernel without an operating system? Linux is the name of the kernel. The rest is GNU.
Part 1 -- To begin with, you could try GNU/Linux while having Vista on your machine.
If you try Ubuntu (for example), you can dowload a live DVD, so you can play about with it WITHOUT installing it on you computer.
If you like it, you can install it ALONG with Vista, by doing a partition, which Ubuntu installation will do for you. --- Basically, when you turn on your laptop you will be asked what OS you want to boot up.
Part 2 -- Of course, I am being very vague with what I am saying here, and can be pretty intimidating for those that are not very computer tech.
I know you (seem) to have posted your comment about a month ago, so this may be nothing new to you now.... but if you have any more queries on this subject... feel "Free" to email me.
When the original infrastructure of of the Internet was built the government used our tax dollars to build it. When it was finally released to public domain it became our property. Ours ! The Tax payer that paid for it to begin with. The corporations cannot control something they didn't pay for themselves. This is why they are trying to cram internet 2 down our throats. What We need to do is send these company's a message in protest & boycott them all together if they refuse to hear us.
Exactly. People, stop supporting your oppressors. Even if only occasionally, you can send a message by withholding your dollars, or trading your dollars to a less evil entity. Do it when you can. "Freedom is not free".
The official in charge of coordinating the U.S. government's cyber-security operations has quit, saying the expanding control of the National Security Agency over the nation's computer security efforts poses "threats to our democratic processes."
"Even from a security standpoint, it is unwise to hand over the security of all government networks to a single organization," said Rod A. Beckstrom,
no, the google phone uses a free mobile os (forget the name) and it's just simply more safer to go that way rather than standard plans and phones. Sure you've got just as much every chance your being listenened into, maybe even more so, but statistically, they're probably safer just because of the software they run on.
well its 49 % of bnp, but alot of people pays 60 % because of the big wages they have.!
60 % is normal in denmark!
I dont get it, why is Obama praising the Danish model!... Do he want the same government controlling everything in america to...!
Lets look at renewable energy, we are independt from the Russians ore any other Gas/oil deliver, but our renewable companies like vestas can only exist because they get alot of money from the government! Its not capitalism no more, its communism!
Free software does not work a lot better in all instances, and in reply to the comment made by Richard "I wont claim that every non free program is badly written, those people are not all stupid" ; most non free programs that become mainstream parts of every day life are often extremely well written and that is the reason people are willing to pay for them, I'm sure if certain free software wasn't free it would not receive a single download due to the poor quality of some free software.
He wasn't refering to Maya or Photoshop. Alex was talking about propietary software which is easily hacked into, which probably means Windows, IE6, IIS, etc., instead of Linux. They just failed to mention any names, making the discussion vague and confusing.
There's a lot of commercial software which doesn't have a competent free alternative. Only the worst GNU zealots would deny that (and they do, probably because many of them don't really use the computer to work, aside from programming).
Well yes I suppose the conversation was a bit vague leading me to make my point based around the aforementioned software. Linux is mainly branded as secure though because people spend much more time to find the security holes in Windows and IE etc than linux and other free software as the amount of people they can affect is minute in comparison. I don't seem to be having a very good response from people watching this video lol.
I agree with you 98% I'm sure he knows some information but he has a lot of misinformation and seems to have trouble conveying his facts. Using all free software does not solve everything. Without many commercial programs we would not be as advanced as we are :)
I'm not saying giving away our rights is good and neither am I saying it has to be done like so many people do. I am just saying that a lot of free software can come nowhere near to the functionality of many non free programs. Some non free programs are not the devilish things that people seem to think.
or we would be just as advanced in another way, greed does not promote creativity it promotes exploitation. If its digital and is not manifested physically it should be free... cause well it doesnt exist. Without the drive of money people create things because they love it or need it either wya things will still be made, maybe just not on such a trivial way as 6000 kinds of antivirus and only 5 do a good job
Props to Alex Jones for promoting GNU and Linux !
