  • Brilliant !

  • I love when he brings out the spotlight. I've always thought that was the coolest part of this performance! Classical Bono "art"! :)

  • It was over twenty years ago when I attended the concert in ATL and still get chills to this day when I hear this song.

  • I was at the Joshua Tree concert tour in Atlanta. Will never forget the experience as U2 ended with "40". All 80,000 people in attendance kept singing as they left the building. As they scattered into the parking lots and down streets, still singing. into the MARTA station all were still singing. Most unbelievable concert experience of my life. Thanks U2.

  • @cvscpa1967 Gives new meaning to the line " How long to sing this song, how long.........."

  • Bear in mind, always when U2 play 40, the Edge and Adam swap instruments. Edge plays bass, and Adam play's Edge's guitar. That's why the sound's a bit different.

  • I was at this show. I have seen this close a minimum of 40 times! It is always amazing! Even as I get older...

  • the vid is NOT 40

  • this is a fake. i hate these vids. show the original or say its complied but dont try to earn distrust.

  • Would it have something to do with being a female? An Irish Catholic? An Australian?

  • Yes he has come again. And look at how you are all treating him

  • I was born near Jerusalem. In another life

  • But somehow I don't think He'll be listening

  • You'll have to talk to God about that

  • Have I got something you want?

  • By the looks of that film you want to kill me

  • I'm getting worried. Are you obsessed with me?

  • And I won't back down. We are going to have this thing out

  • Little Miss Goody Two Shoes I don't think so.

  • Why didn't I get an invite to the Oscars?

  • He did say that Winona is the most beautiful and the best actress. Is that why you got so vengeful? Or was it something directly about me??? i saw you saying a quote straight off Reality Bites to a presenter recently about not being able to handle compliments..........

  • I dont know why the lead actor is laughing. You knew very well what you were doing before you got into it

  • This is defamation at its highest point

  • Who else wants to take a massive gamble at my expense?

  • A windfall of money has been predicted for me

  • Don't people have anything else to do? WHO wants to be sued first?

  • All as negative as possible

  • Now I not only have tv shows and songs and articles and headlines, I have movies

  • Get your phones out. Hes not good enough for me

  • Kieran is very much a single man ladies

  • Kieran lets go we are not wanted here

  • Why are Telstra calling my parents? I told you I quit. Do you want to make this case even worse than it already is?

  • This song brings back memories. I love that I have grown up with Bono and the boys. I consider myself so fortunate to have shared the planet with them.

  • I will sing, sing a new song

  • drums and bass...More atention please!!!

U2 not is a rock band...Is the best rock band 4ever!!

  • EDGE IS A BEAST ON BASS

  • AMEN TO THIS PSALMS 40

  • @120TOMTOM Hell NO!

That would be the worst thing ever

You suck you dont know ur U2

  • How long to sing this song!

How long to sing this song!

How long to sing this song!

How long to sing this song!

  • Eu esperei pacientemente pelo Senhor

Ele se inclinou e ouviu meu clamor

    Ele me tirou do abismo

    Para fora do lamaçal

  • EDGE=BEST GUITAR AND BASSIST EVER!

  • I almost forgot! THE EDGE plays bass on this one and ADAM plays guitar. Pretty cool.

  • Is Psalm 40 the one where god cuts the baby in two?

  • @beowulven why don't you just google psalm 40 instead of being ignorant, nobody cut a baby in two.

  • @mikekrogers

From 1 Kings 3: 25 Then he said, "Cut the living baby in two—give half to one and half to the other."

You are the moron. All the best!

  • @beowulven the bible says that yes it's true, but it was a wise man's ruse to find the truth in a situation, they didn't actually cut a baby in two. they gave him back to his birth mother.

and i never called you a moron, i said you were being ignorant. now that you have context on the verse you quoted, hopefully you can stop.

  • @mikekrogers

Yeah, but why do christians always want to cut babies in two?

  • @beowulven first off, the account you are referring to was way before christ showed up. second, i've never heard of anything remotely like christians cutting a baby in half. thirdly, you must just be trying to goad me so i'm done with your stupidity.

  • @mikekrogers

I'm just fucking with you. As dopes are fun to fuck with.

    Christianity is death. Best.

  • @beowulven You're completely wrong. How does it feel to be completely wrong?

Can you play with me? No, you can't. Try to respect people a bit more.

    God bless you.

  • @StevenHuxley

    Please pray for me? Danka!

  • @mikekrogers watch out for beowulven, he's an atheist! They're closet tough guys....

  • @beowulven If he did you'd be 1/2 the douchebag you are now.

  • @ResidualMoneyClub

    "Residual Money Club"? Nice one.

  • This song is so inspirational. This song & Psalm 40 have deepened for me not from a place of lack. On the contrary, in a positive, uplifting way. It has deepened my faith and trust.

  • Adam looks weird playing the guitar.. edge is just the edge....best band in the world

  • Wow, the sound is slower than the video

  • This song & Psalm 40 , if possible, has deepened & taken a deeper place for me since Bono's injury...When I would be reading Psalms and come to Psalm 40, I couldn't help but think of Bono's injury and his recovery in thoughts and prayers. Bono and U2 have always been in my heart, thoughts and prayers.

I'm so glad to hear of Bono's recovery and U2s return. Bono looks and sounds great. Welcome back

  • It's me or the audio/video is really bad synchronized?

Well, wtvr, this song is beyond words.

Thank to my father who taught me what good music is.

  • Psalms has always been close to my heart & inpiration to me. In books of scripture you find God speaks and reaches out to man. But in Psalms you find King David/man speaks and reaches out to God. Through King Davids pain, suffering, despair and sickness King David never gave up his unwavering trust in God. And in the end he was always delivered.

40 Truly is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.

  • das video ist irgentwie Zeit verzögert

  • Just the dogs bollocks shame that they did not come down to San Salvador, Els during this tour.. have not seen them since 87..

  • The only thing that gets me through the night is listening to "40" before I sleep. U2 Forever.

  • Thank you Bono/ U2

  • I stumbled on this song last week. I can't believe I've never heard this song before. This is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. Psalms/ King David is one of my favorites...Bono/ U2 in different songs have done many things; taken my breath away, touch my soul, make me laugh, smile, sing along, dance. But this song made me cry...Psalm 40 King David is giving thanks to God for the times he has rescued him, taking him out and gave him a new song...

  • magnificent. Larry is solid as a rock, adam and edge swapping their instruments, and the pauses they added between verses and chorusses.. really COOL. I love this song anyway.

  • How long to sing this song

How long to sing this song

    How long...how long...how long...

    How long...to sing this song

  • arrogance

  • I love it, the Edge on the bass & Adam on the guitar

  • adam @the edge rules God bless all U2 fans

  • it's my opinion or adam clayton experiment much more than EDGE with guitar

  • @Satiaraha

    ??

  • psalm 40..

its nice to know that u2 evangelizing the word of GOD thru their music...

    GODspeed!!!!!!

  • @efhreme

Yes it`s right! The word of GOD is full of power, and King David was a good song writer inspired through the lord!

U2 gave this song a great melody

  • love this song. Takes me back.

  • I was at this show!!!

  • the most amazing and beautiful version 0f 40

    love 40 and U2 forever

  • @SoccerTennisWorld

    AGREED!!! :)

  • @SoccerTennisWorld

No way, the best version by far is the "live at red rocks" version. Check it out

  • 40 segundo que tardaron en componer esta cancion, k genios , con tan poco cuanto hacen

  • en sacarla de la biblia mas bien, porque es el Salmo 40

  • Class act, always

  • i love this song... wonderful U2!!! you're in my heart!!!

  • So, our music teacher arranged this into an acapella piece, and our chamber choir is singing it. We all pretty much love this song.

  • thats cool!

  • I'd love to hear that.

  • great 2 c adam playin lead guitar ,, love his smile

  • The Edge looks so cool while he plays this awesome riff ... *_*

  • no he's not he's expressing his desire to join God in his kingdom.

  • You're an idiot.

  • "40" refers to the Bible, Psalm 40 -- I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry.

He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.

And he hath put a new song in my mouth...

  • For many many years '40' always closed the band's live shows. In the days before mobile phones arms and lighters were held aloft. Long after the band had left the stage the crowd would carry the refrain in to the night sky. Always brings a lump to my throat.

  • best version of 40 in my opinion

  • This is the first time I've heard this song and it's just beautiful. I like Larry's drum solo at the end of the show..

  • It's a great song. One of my favorite songs by U2.

  • I waited paiently for the Lord;

And He inclined and heard my cry.

He brought me up out of the pit of destruction, out of the miry clay,

And He set my feet upon a rock making my footsteps firm.

    He put a NEW SONG in my mouth a song of praise to Our God;

Many will see and fear and put their trust in the Lord.

  • I affirm that He is there. I also believe the study of logic and quest for knowledge are not antithetical to religion but in long-run complimentary, if not affirming. I hope your studies have brought and will continue to bring you enrichment and satisfaction.

  • I hate to feed the troll, but, even though I'm agnostic and have an inherent distrust of religion, I do feel something I can't explain every time I see U2 live. Religious people may call that something "God." I'm not willing to make that leap because I can't prove it. I believe only in facts. All I know is, U2 is one of the very few (if not the only) bands that can make you feel like you are part of something that is bigger than yourself.

And that is one of the greatest facts I've ever known.

  • bpwonder07, wind is a weather condition that is scientifically measurable and provable. The sun's radiation is visible when viewed with infrared telescopes. Facts.

There is no evidence (yet?) of a supreme being--people only call God that which they can't explain. I'm not saying He doesn't exist as that would be just as presumptuous as proclaiming He does. Please don't take this personally as you seem like a perfectly nice person, I just can't take claims of personal knowledge of God seriously.

  • aggreed

  • I have seen U2 several times and always come away from it feeling better about the whole world. It is like a religious experience....regardless of what one believes they have a good message for everyone----be kind and try to help someone --- lead a life that means something.

  • I agree with OhReallyNoWai and ndawgnelly. Whether you believe in a higher power or not, seeing U2 live can be a "religious" experience. Although, I have to say, I didn't feel that as much on this last tour as I have in the past. That's ok, because I know they couldn't possibly summon that kind of power every single night of every tour.

I did feel it during "Your Blue Room" and "Moment of Surrender" though, for sure. :)

  • pause at 2:15 it looks like the bono from 2000 when all that you cant leave behind came out

  • this song is sooooo great i love it bono you r the man and i love how larry made the band...so he leaves last

  • It's always so fun to watch Edge and Adam switch it up.

  • what other songs does that happen in?

  • You know, I don't remember off hand...I just remember from some documentary told me so....haha

  • TJ 40

  • thank u2 for your poetry

  • I suppose thanks to whoever wrote Psalm 40, too.

  • haha true. thanks, King David ;)

  • Solomon wrote a hit song too, Turn Turn Turn!

  • @newworld75 Probably David. He wrote most of the earlier Psalms

  • Is that angels above the stage or just lights?

  • Both ;)

    <3

  • Che, se la banca Adam en la guitarra. De Edge era de esperarse, le das cualquier instrumento y es increíble igual, pero Adam fue una revelación.

  • For the first time I've traslated the lyrics........fantastic!!!!!!!!

  • this is awsome

  • Wouldn't it be great if there was an entire concert featuring just Larry on the drums?? Boring? I don't think so!

  • I second that. Larry roooooooocks!

  • Yeah

  • So Edge play's bass now?

  • No, he "plays" it....

  • just for this song him and adam switch

  • song comes from psalm 40

  • Comment removed

  • this song is great. And with a good meaning.

  • the cross necklace bono has was given to him from pope john paul II which he blessed for him in holy water,, a true fact bono exchanged with him for bonos shades....

  • Yeah, I remember hearing a story about the shades and the Pope. It was kind of corny because before Bono exchanged shades for a blessed crucifix, Mark McGuire exchanged an autographed baseball with the Pope.

  • In case no one noticed, for this song Edge plays bass and Adam plays the guitar. They've always done that for just this song

  • chriswoldt1997..........your an arse

  • you may be thinking of the oasis tune, "don't look back in anger". great song with a nice "imagine" sample. however, it remains u2 free. take care.

  • haha u probably mean "sally cant wait"from oasis hahaha

  • Great Ending Song

  • this ending to this concert has to be one of the best ive ever watched. I'd love to go and see them in concert one day. This is a brilliant song and i love it.

  • love this song

  • God bless these guys......man.....this is one of the things I like about U2......they're basically worshiping and they are not ashamed of it......they just do it. they openly talk about God. I just love. Bless be His holy name......Go U2 Go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The audio is way out of synch on this video. 1 star.

  • This song is beautiful live.

  • U2 are saints. Their music touches people around the world, regardless of race, color, creed, politics, age, gender, finances etc. Celtic Saints!

  • the cross necklace bono has was given to him from pope john paul II which he blessed for him in holy water,, a true fact bono exchanged with him for bonos shades....

  • I love this song, and the bass line too!

  • adam is a pretty aweesome guiitarist!!!

  • they played 40 in Lisbon, the last show of the Vertigo Tour in Europe, I was there....

  • LOVE

  • are they going to tour for no line on the horizon?

  • Of course.

  • jesus live, and love you.

    sl.40

  • One of my favourites

  • Iam sorry. I was wrong. they have played it in Ireland och fance. however its a really nice song! love it

  • The Edge and Adam switch because when they were recording the CD "War" it originally ended with "Surrender." They finished recording and adam went back to ireland. Bono decided they did not like how the album ended and Bono and he edge made this song together out of Psalm 40, and since adam was gone the edge played his guitar on a bass setting, and now he just plays bass

  • edge and adam always switsch instruments when they play this song to end the consert. iam not sure but I think they never play 40 in europe just only in the states

  • 2:14 Bono (and fans in background) RAISE-THE-ROOF!!!:)

  • The opening song was fantastic on this concert, but the final song .. it's GREAT, EXCELENT, WORLD'S .. I'm not able to describe in a few words ...

  • I'm a little confused...Edge with Bass Guitar? How long is he playing on it?:s...anyway it's a great song and it proud for U2 to say good-bye one by one.

  • Edge and Adam swapped guitars just for this song.

  • no way! I haven't noticed:D:D:D. But why?Is that a tradition in this song or why?

  • yeah I havent expected that adam could play an electric guitar :D but he has done a pretty good job ;)

  • yes you're right he's done:)..did they do this in other songs too?

  • Larry's band, larry leaves last. Love it

  • What can i give back to god, for the blessings he poured out on me? what can i give back to god for the blessings he poured on me? I lift high the cup of salvation, it is a toast to our father, i'll follow through on the promise i made to you, Hear my heart

  • Amazing performance of an underrated U2 song. U2 has such a wonderful way of writing spiritual lyrics without coming off "cheesy"

  • you're right but in this case it's God's words :) it's Psalm 40 :)

  • Yes, good point. God writes the best lyrics in the book of Psalms. The song "Drowning Man" from War also has some quotes from Isaiah. Very nice.

  • this song is based on Psalm 40 of the bible
