Another tune from a great Canadian band.I've listened to this tune so many times over the yrs from when they first came out to now,,,Funny though,it always seems to be in fast cars i've owned over the yrs..
I saw the "Lock up your sons' tour with Toronto and the Headpins in Kamloops in '82. What a show! Darby Mills had us eating out of her hand and then Toronto came out and brought down the house. What memories!
I hear from a reliable source that Toronto is doing 9 show in Canada this summer. I will love to hear Holly sing again, as she is such an amazing talent and has long been missed by so many folks! Thanks for posting this song...brings back lots of memories of that era!
@InglebertHumperdink1 Hey Bert, have you ever heard of this song Looking for Trouble. It is found on youtube title: Shania Twain Movie (Toronto - Lookin' for Trouble) HQ. Toronto`s other trademark song.
Altatoth..talent is a rare thing..it pops up in the weirdest places....Don't diss until you get up and show you are worthy of such comments ;) I love Holly one of the best voices I have heard, along with Darby and I have a long memory..prolly unlike yours..unless you have a few years on me..Granted I use to listen to Hank Williams Sr when I was growing up..;)
I forgot about adding Luba to the list with Holly , Darby , Susan & Jan as talented artists that don't need anything but their voice to get noticed . America DOESN'T have talent .
@Guitargawd13 Thanks for the correction but why would an artist like woods move to Canada to record music instead of staying south of the 49th parallel to make it big ? She wouldn't have moved for he weather eh .
We ( Canadians ) have some of the best unknown talent that gets over looked . Holly Woods , Darby Mills , Susan Jacks & Jan Arden are far more talented than Lady Gag Gag will ever be .
@theLEMONS2009 check it out but I'm sure you'll find that the other players were from the north east (NY state). They were based in Toronto, they toured Canada extensively, and no doubt used session players from the Toronto area. But when the record label went tits up all the remaining copies of their last album "Assault and Flattery" (35,000 copies!!) were pulled from the shelves both Scott and Holly high tailed it back to the states.
@theLEMONS2009 What I have read is Holy Woods is from NC & a couple others are from NY . I still stand behind my comment that Canadians don't receive credit when credit is due on not only in the arts but everything .
Three Canadians were thanked ( 40 years later ) for their contribution on getting Apollo 13 safely back to Earth . The movie The Great Escape was accomplished with Canadians involved but you would never have known it by watching the movie .
Yes, you could be correct about Canadians not receiving credit when it is due, but we are a tough breed, and always manage to handle setbacks such as that! We don't feel it is necessary to always blow our own horn, like some folks do.
As far as i know, you are correct, Holly is from NC, and other members from NY, I also thought there were 2 Canucks in the group.
@theLEMONS2009 look no further! Members Brian Allen and Sharon Alton are home grown Canadians and also wrote "What About Love" for Heart back in the day. Also one of Canada's finest prog rock drummers Barry Connors was with Toronto for 3 albums and he is a Canadian boy! Ray Colbourne of Honeymoon Suite fame also played keys with TO and he is a Canuck! Rock on Canada! Great folks all of them!
It's sad to see a band with real talent not get the credit they deserve. I always thought Toronto was an amazing hard rock band, too bad they didn't get the exposure because they would have been HUGE.
f.y.i Toronto and Heart are two different bands, been listening to this album for a few years after it came out I'm from London Ontario and had the opportunity to be influenced by bands like Toronto, Helix, Molly Hatchet, April Wine, Pat Benitar, Lee Aaron, The Head Pins etc 'all had a impact on my guitar playing development , the artists of today are doing there thing and that's fine. everyone has to make a living but these bands that forged the way
I read all through your comments here, and don't see anything that seems like it would be from Holly. Is that an older comment that has since been deleted?
yung buck here to represent... i was born 10/2/87 so i was concieved when this song was put out so i dont know what it was like at the time but my beleife is basicly theese guys are one of the most under rated under played bands in canadian history!!!.........FUCK NICKLEBACK!!! lol
I agree that they are/were an Awesome band, I heard a few of their songs back then, thats when I got hocked on this song, and couldn't believe it wasn't on YouTube!
The first time my friends and I heard this song it was epic. It's totally laser music. We all love the song and I have been hoooked ever since, it is even my ring tone!
@altatoth1i went to a concert about a year ago on grand Prairie for headpins and it was awsome, darby still has an amazing voice. i think it was the best time i have had in years!

Oh our winters are not as cold as they are out east .
This is one of my favorite TORONTO tunes. It was written in Morin Heights during the recording of "HEAD ON", our 2nd album. I'm glad everyone seems to be enjoying it! "DO WHATCHA BE WHATCHA" is on our 1rst album "LOOKIN FOR TROUBLE". Thanx so much, Holly Woods
@singsong80 Hhow many times did I see Toronto? '81 in High School, '83 United Way Show at ML Gardens, '84 at Mohawk College, Hamilton (memorable because during Your Daddy Don't Know, Holly held the microphone out to a bunch of us at the front to sing along, and my buddy wouldn't let go of the mike, and when he finally did, Holly got whacked in the nose). Another time at R&R Heaven in TO, once at the revolving stage at Ontario Place and I think finally a double bill with Darby Mills, mid '90's...
The mix on this record by Terry Brown was absolutely phenomenal and translated really well to cd. Put this in a car with a good sub and you'll see what I mean ......Holly was nomintated for numerous Juno's and always seemed to lose to Carol Pope ! Things that make you go hmmmmm...
canadian music has never got the "big up" it needed but think about it, 1981? so much was happening in the american music scene (USA) that noone even wanted to look north of the border but this is crazy, just remember the music around at this time and you'll realize how close if not better this was. (ps. 1987 born lol)
Yea, its like BTO, apparently some US radio stations banned them, to keep their radio time for American singers! Of course they could only keep the lid on for so long, then BTO spread south of the border anyway. Some of their tunes are on YT, I like "Quick change Artist"
I have a son your age! lol :)) He likes the 80s music also, a lot of it is truly timeless. I also enjoy SOME of the songs out there today, like Fire Flys, and some others. Canadians have sure proved they can sing!
I am Canadian, and I like Canadian bands also, but not just because they are Canadian. I listen to a variety of music, and I just happen to like certain bands like Toronto :)
I guess the reality of it is that Canadian and American families are so intertwined that we might as well be AmeriCanadians! :)
Yes, Canada can be cold in the winter, as well as HOT and humid in the summer, in the Toronto-Montreal corridor. We hit at least 98 deg. F. here this summer, too toasty for us Canucks!!!! :)
Glad that you think I have nice taste in music. I do sing along cover versions to songs that I like, not that I am a good singer, but to introduce folks to what my favorite songs and artists are, like Toronto. There are some more songs by Toronto on youtube also... enjoy :))
She has such a great voice and I'd really like to see Holly Woods do a Blues Album - in fact she could do a number of styles including folk and country!!!
I saw them a couple years ago. They played outside at a Bar in the parking lot. Great night. They still can rock!! I've been searching & searchin for their song Do Whatcha Be Whatcha with absolutely no success. You wouldn't happen to have it would ya?
Maybe you have noticed the 3 cover versions I have done, where I include the lyrics. I know I can't hold a candle to Holly Woods, especially since I am a guy, but I like to sing along with her nice songs :)

Yes, this is a nice song, and I luv Holly's voice. I have also come to enjoy other Toronto songs, and I have at least one more I would like to cover. For some reason "Start telling the truth" has been stuck in my head for a few weeks now!
You may not like our LEMons cover songs, but I am planning on covering a few more Toronto songs, just so people that view this channel are exposed to some more Toronto songs :)
I saw Toronto and the Headpins together over 20 years ago! Ended up with tickets ... I had no idea who they even were then. That was a good night! Thanks for posting! Ik hou van jou, mmmy Mmmichael!!!

I have heard that some CD's are for sale online, I am sure I saw "Get it on credit " for sale online. It might prove to be worth checking out. :)
Have a look at the write up for the vid "Your daddy don't know" here on YT, it may say something about this subject.
Best of luck to you!

best song by this group hands down. Holly's voice is very haunting in this song. Leaves you wanting more!

Yes, this is a nice song, and I luv Holly's voice. I have also come to enjoy other Toronto songs, and I have at least one more I would like to cover. For some reason "Start telling the truth" has been stuck in my head for a few weeks now!

Yes, I do care, in fact I like this Toronto song so much that I sang a cover version of it, although I am sure you enjoy the original a lot more!
Thanks to all of you who listen to this vid, it makes the time it took me to learn how to use Moviemaker, then make the vid, all worth it :)
