MT. HOLLY SPRINGS, Pa. — State police have determined that the driver of a fire truck from Citizens Fire Co. of Mt. Holly Springs was at fault in Thursday's crash in South Middleton Township that resulted in the death of a 70-year-old Carlisle area woman.
My be the opperator of the Fire veh. in the above video should shre the blam, just because your a fireman dosnt mean your in the right
this isnt really funny atall. the moron in the jeep put alot of lives on the live there/ idk how many times ive herard of this kind of stuff happening. WHEN AN EMERGENCY VEHICLE IS COMING W/ LIGHTS & SIRENS GET OUT OF THE WAY!!!!
get off your cell phone, put out your smoke, quit looking at your passenger and talking, leave your coffee in the drink holder and wait till you get home to eat that doughnut and maybe when the unexpected happens you will be able to deal with it ........ wake up,watch the road!!!!!the car manufactures put windows in their vehicles for a reason.
Wow you are one dumb fuck emergency vehicles still have to watch out for other cars you asshole especially when they have a red light they ahve to stop and make sure everyone else stops so dont fucking say anything until you get ur facts right you fucking asshole
I think you'd be the moron in this case and a quite ignorant one at that. ALL emergency vehicles should use extreme caution when going through ANY intersection, even if the light is green... If it's red, they should at least slow down almost to a stop and make sure it's clear to proceed.
Firefighters are one of the most highly respected jobs in america they do their job and you dont have to pay them or get a ticket. so respect your local fd.

Ok the SUV should have waited.
BUT in many states fire engines do not have right of way. The are not police and if you google it you will find them being sued and going to jail for hitting cars when running a red under lights. That being said get out of the way people, they might be trying to help someone you love.
That's not necessarily true. I think you have the right idea, but the wrong wording. When going code, all emergency vehicles have the right of way and in ANY state in the US, if you don't yield the right of way to an emergency vehicle while they have their lights and sirens on, you will get a ticket it you're caught. Now, at ANY intersection, emergency vehicles should use extreme caution. Stop (or almost stop) at red lights and make sure the intersection is clear.
HOWEVER...at least in the State of Texas, operator of an emergency vehicle is still required to use "due care" when disregarding a traffic control device! The fact is, as much as we have going on in cars (radio, maps, warnings, lights) and throw into the mix the fact that car manufacturers make the car cabins quieter, thereby reducing outside noises (sirens!).
Even at green lights, you should use caution when going through because you never know what idiot isn't paying attention in cross traffic. I think both parties are somewhat at fault in this video. The firetruck should have stopped and the SUV should've realized that everyone was stopped and used caution rather than just blowing through the intersection. by the way, cops aren't anymore special than other emergency vehicles.
While I don't believe he shouldn't have come to a complete stop, he should have at least slowed down. It's better to have only one accident scene to tend to and not two
Message to those who believe the fire fighters were at fault:
Bare in mind, while you say that the fire fighters are to blame, that they are desperate to get to a scene to put out fires and maybe even save lives. It is not their fault if someone else isn't paying enough attention to driving.
I think I am at the point where we should just remove the sirens from fire vehicles and force them to just follow the flow of traffic. They get there when they get there. Obviously the lights would be necessary when at the scene. Its not worth the liability that many states are putting on the fire departments when so many stupid people cannot yield.
Are you serious? Depending on how far the fire is it could take 20 min to get to the sence. Do you know what a fire can do in 20 min. It can engulf a house, spread to enough building, kill countless amount of people, Make it uncntrollable for who knows how long and etc...
You're an idiot. Say you had a son or grandmother choking on something in your house during rush hour traffic. You think they're going to live for 30 mins while the ambulance comes?
Say you were in an accident and you're losing blood, unable to breath, and unconscious inside the car. If the FD has to wait 20 mins to get through the traffic to get to you, you're as good as dead.
Shut up idiot. You jump into the middle of a conversation and throw your worthless opinion around like it means something.
We were talking about the laws are all set up against emergency vehicles so they are always the ones at fault. If we are going to blame the emergency vehicles all the time fore every accident then we might as well just take off the lights and sirens.
So if your going to jump into a conversation, why dont you figure out whats going on before running your mouth.
How is this Humor at all? Do you know the circumstances behind this? Based on past experience chauffeuring and serving as a company officer, this chauffeur should have slowed down watching all lanes of traffic. Everyone assumes the suv wasn't paying attention, but if there was a bus or truck next to her/him how do you expect them to see the responding aerial? Also if you look at siren dynamics, and traffic patterns the SUV more than likely did not see the truck until too late. You are a tool.
Yeah, the driver should have slowed for the intersection. I would have. I can't make out specifics on the light, but it looks like the SUV driver thinks he's going to beat the truck, which irks me.
There's nothing funny about the idiot in the SUV almost killing a bunch of firefighters. Swerving in a big truck is extremely dangerous and lots of us get killed that way. When you hear sirens, please get over to your right and stop until all of the emergency vehicles pass.

Whisper is correct. For all of those that put thumbs down, watch your local FD. Most, if not all come to almost a complete stop at every red.

I think that who is at fault in this occasion is the civilian driver.
Some people may argue that the fire fighters should be paying attention all around. That is true, they should, and probably were.
HOWEVER, it is ALSO the responsibility for civilians to make room for emergency services and vehicles.
NAEAN 3 years ago
It is the responsiblity of the fire department to respond with utmost regard for public safety. Blowing an intersection is not a good example.
