Heard the composer lecture this weekend. Essentially, he's adopted the basic principles of Chomskian linguistics in order to develop his own generative grammar of musical composition. The phrases here have been created to sound linguistic, indeed vocal and syntactical, but without any semantic content.
Rachel-Expressive interpretation, beautiful sound,extreme mastery of bowing technique - sounds like the violin is talking to me. Piece is lyrical and exciting at same time.
