@TheNoShitLady iTunes carries the One in the Sun CD. If you would prefer a hard copy, try "googleing" it. A few differently priced copies came up ranging from $10 to $15.
Wow! All these years and I never heard this. Skynyrd was pretty deep in talent. Gaines was the whole package write, sing, play. Got that Southern influence all over it. You've heard it said...."the sum is greater than the parts...."(sic) No wonder they were one of the greatest rock bands in history. And the parts may have been greater than the sum....maybe. got to listen to Gaines some more, I am impressed.
Steve Gaines...what a talent... could have been a Stevie Ray Vanghan. My view is that this is a great song and yes his solo is his his but is it is not skynyrd with wilkeson's bass or Billy's piano. We have the two versions for us to listen to as we want. I personnally prefer the skynyrd version as it is Skynyrd. ...They certainly did wonders with his song "I know a little' and personally I can't get enough of the skynyrd/gaines stuff. I wish they could do more...RIP
wish skynyrd wouldn't have tried to re-do this song, this was perfection and they just had to try and remake it. i love skynyrd but none of them hand anything on steve, and their album " street survivors " was pretty much his show casing for him . his influence was all over that masterpiece , steve your a legend man and anyone who has heard your music will surely deeply miss your authenticity , spectacular skill , and just having you on this earth to grace us with your awesomeness !!! RIP steve
Steve Gaines - what can a young man who was not even born yet when Steve passed say about this man? Well, I can say he was probably one of the most talented people I've heard, both vocal and guitar. The liner notes on the One in the Sun CD states "It's easy to be depressed about how the world was robbed of such an artist at a very early age" is absolutely true. I want more Steve Gaines and I am sad I will never get it. I will learn all I can from the limited work I have of this great man.
The other versions on youtube have another recently added guitar on them which I think is obnoxious. What happened was a couple of years after the plane crash and his death the surviving members took just his vocal track and a guitar track to this song and added all their own parts to the song. but whose to say that steve would have wanted this? the thing that makes me mad is that they didn't leave in his original guitar solo which is an awesome one at that. This is the original.
You know I just wish there was more music like this now days, we'll never isee it happen again. Just wish they were still here

Just a phenomenal talent. I think writing/co-writing half of Street Survivors is a testament to that. Thanks for posting!
