Caesar did not decimate the 9th. He was, in fact, well known for clemency. The IX were spared decimation when Caesar allowed his generals to talk him out of the punishment and instead have the men draw lots. Only 12 out of nearly 4000 were actually beaten to death (or strangled). 'Suetonius Life of Caesar; 69' or 'Cassius Dio, Histories Book 41; 26 - 35' . . This was a great series but there quite a few inaccuracies, which is poor considering the 'experts' and 'historians' involved.
Good acting and cinematography considering this is just a documentary. This would have made a really good movie. I love Roman times - I must have lived it in previous lives.
It's all the same, If you promise people something and you take too long to deliver they get antsy. Beside they should know to never go against Casear he never forgets a wrong and will always exact revenge/punishment no matter how long it takes.
IT's all the same. If you promise people something and you take too long to deliver they get antsy. Beside they should know to never go against Casear he never forgets a wrong and will exact revenge/punishment
it seems you can see about 4 min. of Part 3 if you copy/paste this: Caesar's Rome - Ancient Rome: Rise and Fall of an Empire - BBC in the search box. It's the crossing of the Rubicon. Also you can see a bit of part 6 if you type Battle of Pharsalus - Ancient Rome: Rise and Fall - BBC
Sean Pertwee is brilliant as Caesar, Not so much the heroic image that everyone's familiar with, rather a realistic anti-hero ruthlessly pursuing his ambitions. He's more like the real Caesar than the traditional image of the man.
@Gr0nTh0s I'm not sure where you are located, but my friends in the UK can't watch part 3 either. I don't know what the reason is for it. Perhaps it needs to be uploaded again?
I couldn't watch part 3, so I went 2 ur homepage and found it then clicked on it but it was blocked. youtube has blocked part 3. so in ur spare time may you please re-upload part 3? that would be awsome thanks.
@Gr0nTh0s It seems part three is being blocked in the United States by request of the BBC. I'm not sure why since there are so many others that are not blocked.
@jurazbrna I haven't seen part three but I know my history. So Julius marches on Rome and in the city all those who are loyal to the old republic flee and go to gather there forces in Greece to combat him and in doing so leaves Rome undefended and Julius walks in a takes the city.
@jurazbrna Rome was too weak to defend itself from Gaeus Julius(Caesar). What few of the loyal Roman soldiers were there, along with the senate headed east to enlist Pompei... Gaius Julius crossed the Rubicon River with his army and his standard or facia was carried into the Senate without resistance.
Yep, back then, you were either a man or not ! I wish we had leaders like this today -real soldiers that earned it - not the useless whimps of today. Ceaser would turn around in his grave seeing the men in government today...
the roman is wrong 05:30 they only conquered to the rhine into the danube river so they conquered south holland untill the rhine and not hole of holland
@farmdog1313 i am the bbc is owned by the public, so even if im not watching something made by them on the tv i should still be able to watch it on the internet...
because he angered the traditional base of Rome the regular people loved him the Senate hated him because he spurned tradition and some of them irrationally feared that Caesar would declare himself king
@johnnyreb1025 The man appointed himself dictator for life...I think their fears were warranted. Caesar was a thug dictator, looked what came after him, tyrant dictators! One man rule, even if the man was a complete psycho like Nero!
@goodgirlkay no Dictator ever did so much for his people. he made them wealthier than before and he freed them from the tyranny of the famous families
@goodgirlkay I agree Caesar had a God complex and was a dictator, who used his defeat of Gaul to fool the masses into making him Emperor. He is no different than modern politicians. He did exactly what the senators were doing but worse
hmm they do not have time the video already said that Caesar army was moving fast and Anthony was send to stop the flee people ? that why Anthony got smack in the face

Octavian although not military gifted was a lot more smarter politically than Caesar. He made sure he didn't repeat the same mistakes as Caesar.
