Yank the fennel! It tends to suppress the growth of everything but lettuce, and it's especially hard on beans. See companion planting. Meanwhile I am drooling over your setup.

interesting point. I hadn't heard that about fennel, but come to think of it, when I grow it in my soil garden, it doesn't get many weeds. ....hmmm
