Even after 15 years of service, I still find it hard to answer the question "why in the world do you do it....for NOTHING" You just can't get people to understand, because they just can't comprehend what its about. I now bring this clip to people's attention. Thanks and good luck with the series.
great vids, great show idea, love every minute of it, im 16 yrs old, iv been a junior firefighter or Cadet Firefighter as our station calls us for about 2 years now, this show really captures everything this job is about. my dad was a firefighter and ever since i was a kid just hanging at the station its all iv ever wanted to do, keep up the great work and best of luck for the show, be safe!
Im a volunteer im 19years old. Everything that was said in this video is true. It's all about helping people. It takes a special breed of people to risk their life for the sake of others.
great video, im planning on joining when i turn 18, i love the way he put the fatality, but if it means i can still help people instead of not doing anything, im willing to take on that stress! and whats the song in the first part?
every thing they say in this is true, i am a volunteer firefighter and have been for 2 years, i am 20 years old, and i joined when i was 18, i have lost my dad in a firefighting accident my first year on the department, and what they said was true, its hard to deal with that, but its the will to help others.
God, my neighbors barn just burnt down, i live in loudon county just where this was filmed. 23 fire trucks were here. the firefighters contained the whole fire to just the empty barns. It was so amazing to see how these wonderful volunteers got here and took their job so seriouisly. makes me want to join when i turn old enough. Seriously, these people are amazing. they deserve all of our thanks.
Absolutely incredible. Coming from a volunteer firefighter, all of this is so true and so much of how we feel and what we live and go through. Keep up the videos this is good stuff!
This is an awesome. I have very close friends who are volunteers as well. It continues to amaze me that they (from 16) have willingly risked their lives for others over and over again. They really enjoy being able to help others. Keep up the good work, and thank you for what you do.
Keep up the great work. I am a vollie in Rural Kansas and without us alot of people would be up shit creek without a paddle. Stay Low and Stay Safe fellow brothers and sisters.
@hollyfurr1980 I just got done with Firefighter 1 here in Fincastle Va.. You hit the nail on the head!!!!! 'Stay low and Stay safe'. To all I would say "Fight the spike the heat will take a hike!!!!" Amen to all that we go through!!! The people we save do not know the half of it!!!
To all my neighbors who volunteer to run "in' when others are trying to get out. Thank you for your service and always being there for us. Much success in the show on Discovery...it will be very successful. It is long overdue...
dude this is an awesome video and i really hope that your deal goes through with the network this is an awesome view into the life that we live every single day, we see things that no human being should and we come home to our family and tell them that it was nothing. this really should bring a new respect for everyone who works in emergency services.
I am a Volunteer with a dept in Texas and these are lots of the things we see and the hardest things are when you roll up on scene and it is a child or teen you know and the they are gone never to say hello or goodbye and it is hard as a Firefighter to live with these things but thats what I do FVFD # 934
This looks awesome and at like 3:15 when the helmet cam films him fog nozzling the fire, its a badass shot. But why do they show a firefighter at the end running on air? makes no sense lol.
If this were ever to become a show I would watch! Looks awsome! You need to come to Prince George's County, but you can skip 33, since they already has their own series on the web. Great music!
Awesome Trailer....As a LT in the fire service as well I would love to see this sort of documentary on television, people really need to see the other side of the volunteer fire/ems that we go through. Love the video and music, anybody know what the soundtrack is called?
Outstanding! It's about time somebody made a quality documentary about the men and women who serve everyday within our fire services so that the public has a better understanding of the job we do and the trials we face. Both physically and emotionally.
Won't this be kind of slow though? Nothing against volunteers, but I'm sure these guys don't run too many calls. So how do they get a decent amount of fire footage. Most of it looked staged or like it was just training fires. Then almost half of the trailer looked like the same car accident.
They do. I think about 25% of fire departments are paid. They are all pretty much the large cities and the suburbs of those cities. If its a small town that only runs 500 calls every year, there's no point on staffing a full-time fire house and paying the guy the same as someone from a fire house that runs 15-30 calls every day in a city that runs hundreds of calls every day.
@akron1000gpm its not about the pay check its about giving back and helping other when they are in need.i am happy that i am a volunteer.i dont need a paycheck.all i need is the feeling that i know i help the person that need our help
@stankerfilmes Agreed. Why should we ask to be paid? The people who need us aren't getting paid to sit in a mangled car, or passed out in a smoke filled room.
Love it

I love the idea and the approach you took but there are some things that I think may help you raise the quality.
1. Make sure you have clear audio. avoid the background noise especially during interviews.
2. Pay attention to lighting. Never have your interview subject backlit if you can help it.
3. Framing is important. avoid excessive headroom (space above subject's head to the top of the frame).
Keep at it!

Many VFDs choose to be VFDs so that they may utilize the 60%+ budget lost on paid departments for staffing, utilizing it for equipment and training.
