  • Taped this song when it first came on the radio in 67. The tape wore out a long time ago, so I was happy to find it again here. At the time I didn't know it was a Randy Newman song. I like this version the best.

  • I think all X Factor contestants and aspirants should watch this man, realise that he has what they do not have - talent - and then they should do the right thing and just go and fuck off and die.

  • @LordMontystink

    dead right mate..........

    spot on.

  • the 3 people who disliked this must be sad people this is pure nostalgic music at its very best

  • I once worked with a guy called Simon Smith and we used to sing this song whenever he came into the room. Used to piss him off no end :)

  • This is the first music /sound i can recall from the age of 3 and has stayed in my memory ever since. My parents must have turned up the old radiogram when it came on.Funny how we remember certain sounds and smells along the path of life !

  • Great song and what a cool band. Whatever happened to cool bands like this

  • @alen888100 They ended up living in Barnes and wallowing in their own arrogance, I fear.

  • My dad is called Simon Smith and was born in 1967...

  • i was not born when this was in the charts but i love it (i was born 1973

  • @gibson1973100 i was born 1998 and found out about this song 2011 now i can't get enough of it bahahah.

  • Another of Randy Newman's works of art.

  • 3 people that didnt like this should be shot dead..

    kidding

  • It just gives me a warm feeling, & for 1 minute 49 seconds i'm that child again back in the sixties.

  • AMAZING, WOW, WHAT A SONG !!!

  • Absolutely timeless piece of Sixties music. :)

  • That little grin he does at about fifty-nine seconds in, I apparently, do that exact same grin when I'm up to something, or I've done wrong. :/

  • proff, my words exactly. here here

  • cute song............some of the faces in his band look familiar.............anyone care to enlighten me?? I enjoyed this slice of memorabilia..........

  • Who said "Randy Newman"!!!!

  • Anyone have the B-side - Tickle Me could you please upload.

  • This guy was awesome... I didn't realise he'd had so many hits... Really strong melodies and big sounds. Absolutely classic!

  • Magical.

  • Alan sounds very much like Georgie Fame. Both of them are huge talents, typical of so many class acts out of the UK in the 60s. Where has it all gone nowadays?

  • @paulkate72 …Mr Big Trousers himself with his mix of would be American sound alikes. Yes, I am talking about 'X Factor', and assorted Hip Hop and R'n'B acts. God I feel old!

  • @NCW250 Yes, pretty good was the Alan Price Set. Lots of good acts today too, on balance, but just generally better sounds then. Thanks for your comments.

  • @paulkate72 They performed many times together too.

  • @judsons -Nice to hear from someone who likes similar music - cheers!

  • Nostalgia without memory..

  • Gosh, wasn't he sexy?!!

  • How Great! This was one of the first 45's my brother brought home. I remember the record company was "Parrot." Oh, how funny! I know it's actually a Randy Newman song. Thank you for posting!

  • Listened to this song about fifty times in the last week

  • I listen to this maybe once a week along with the Jarrow song. My 3 year old and my 8 year old dance along. Timeless. Brilliant.

  • he's hottttt

  • THIS WOULD SURELY BE A HIT NOW.??

  • Not a bad looking guy. Nice outfit too.

  • I THOUGHT Alan Price did a song about a dancing bear (it was a bit before my time)...

  • His voice fits perfectly with the song.

  • I remember first hearing this song on "The Muppet Show".

  • 1:25 wut?

  • A favourite (EARLY) childhood song!! Always fills me with warmth and happiness and memories childhood innocence :) Wonderful!!

  • an advert on every f********* video - tossers

  • Randy Newman wrote this song. Surprised nobody mentioned that.

  • @phosphorfilms HEY DID YA KNOW

    RANDY NEWMAN WROTE THIS SONG.?

  • amazing!! :) love d sixties fookin classic!!

  • how do you stop adverts coming on EVERY video ?????

  • Charmingly exuberent performance of a classically catchy tune, but I can't help but feel there's something extremely sarcastic about this song. The lyrics are a little 'askew', somehow...

  • @Slammerworm1 That fits with Randy Newman. He recorded the song himself for his 1972 album "Sail Away." As with many of his albums, "Sail Away" has a concept to it. Almost all the songs are about liars.

  • @Slammerworm1

    I quite agree.

    Thank you.

    Jennie.

  • l perfer scooter and fozzie bear's cover.

  • Heh heh, that's what I was looking for when I found this. XD

  • 1967...graduating form Mater Christi HS, Queens, NY...This song was cool then, even cooler now...Sang it all that summer. Thanks for the memory. Ken

  • takes me back to being a small boy and im going to see alan in concert very soon !

  • I have always loved this song...was just a little kid when it was out but loved it then and still loveit!! I went to see Alan Price the other night and he was AMAZING, so talented. Met him after the show and got his autograph and he was really lovely too :)

  • It's such a sweet silly song.

  • priceless

  • He hated it..................

  • Was reminded about this song today. A good friend who died recently was called Simon Smith.

  • Aww his smile is so cute at 0:58 :) :)

My mum made me listen to this because it was the first record she ever bought when she was a kid and I LOVE it!

  • You had a good mum ! I sing this to my three month old!

  • just saw the alan price set in dundee tonight with chris farlowe and maggie bell. outstanding gig!!!

  • Shit-hot song! And by the way, he smiles the same way as I do when I'm up to no good! >:P

  • Loving Alan's sincere smile... (thank you, Andrew) and his great performance. Wonderful, happy, happy, HAPPY song.

  • Alan still sounds and looks as fresh today as he did 40 years ago.

When he recorded this song (and a plethora of other Randy Newman songs), Newman sold no records and he sure was glad about the exposure he got from Alan and other artistes who sang his songs.

  • Does anyone know whether this was Colin Hodgkinson playing the bass on this? It looks like him, and the bass line is certainly good enough for it to be him!

  • Allen Price is in the Bob Dylan rocumentary called "Dont Look Back" it came out some time in the mid 1960's, hes in some cool scenes, but

hes not in the whole movie, not sure if thats what your talking about hope it helps

  • Alan's version is pleasant, but I still like Randy Newman singing it himself, and I also like Harry Nilsson's version also.

  • You do know that Randy Newman wrote it? :)

  • Thanks

    1967 I was 19

One of my all time favourite 60's songs

  • awesome song

  • I have to agree with most comments here, there's something about this song that brings back so many happy memories ....I think it's called nostalgia , Thanks for the post.

  • Completely agree with Vinoshane.

Great memories of being 5 years old in a more straightforward and less complicated world.

Excellent song and cheers for posting.

  • Thank you for your kind comment ,your right you just don't hear much class like this anymore.

  • I think its the memory of the vicious bear attacks that occured in the late 1970's in the smoky mountains in North carolina and tennessee. Good times, happy times. One bear totally tore through our volswagon bus and cooler we had stored in it. We fled to the public bathrooms and had to stay there for hours until the park rangers told us that the coast was clear. I wrote this song about that experience.

  • Cant be-Says 67 in the title :P

  • I know. Just playing around. LOL.

  • Thats why i said :P

  • @Vinoshane my sentiments exactly, a real blast from the past and straight into my 'favourites' collection

  • :D

    That is all.

  • There's something so magical about 60's songs like this one, I was very young when this was in the charts but I loved it and all the others even then and still do, I don't know what was in the air back then but whatever it was has long gone, maybe forever, oh well, we still have our memories eh??.

  • @proff180 People remember things more vividly from their youths usually. Its a fact. But this song is sweet. I'm 19 and R. Newmans one of my favorite songwriters.

  • @proff180 Would you say this year 1967;was the best year for 'Pop' MUSIC writing this country ever had,if not what in your opinion would be the best year for english 'POP song writing?

  • @rogerhoward555 It was on 1st June 1967 Sergeant Pepper was released - do you need to say anymore?

  • Great song, and Alan Price is a great performer and musician.

    Happy memories from me :)

  • Alan Price was always a great pianist! A bit of comedy, a good tune, Who could want more?

  • I was 14 and at High School when this song came out. It was a great time to be a teenager and this video took me right back to that time. Thanks for posting!

  • Nice tune!

Fairly sure that the saxophone player ( in the middle of this group) is Denis Payton. He also was in the Dave Clark Five.

  • Love this song, reminds me of the carefree days of my childhood! Thanks for posting.

  • One of my childhood favourites too!

  • The first song I ever remember - brings back so many happy memories and feelings which I can't put into words (because I don't think I could talk then!)

  • Great to see this. Saw him at Burnley Mechanics and sat on front row and shouted at him to sing this at end of his performance. He did and it was brilliant. The whole performance was excellent. Never had the chance to see him when I was younger. Comes across as a genuine guy and not a jumped up shit with no talent like some of them today. Him and Georgie Fame were themselves. Amy Winehouse is another brilliant artiste because she is genuine. It's great having youtube for all the good memories.

  • Remember this one great thanks.

  • Love this

  • I bloddy love this song.

  • This smash hit by Alan written of course by Randy Newman was always on the radio back in London ca. '67 and my dad and I used to laugh each time it came on. Great version of a great song.

  • hmmm... this makes more sense coming out of scooter and fozzie.

  • Nothing gets past you mate....you're sharp.

  • looks like you need a dancing bear :D

  • Great - thanks for posting you made my evening

  • siman simit and im dancing bear
